Yeah, empty is a good way to describe it. The bump you feel with browns is absent. It just feels like pushing down on a spring. Nice and quiet, easy to avoid bottoming out. I really really like reds.

How's the double tapping with it? That seems to be the only questionmark to me right now(for instance blacks do that really well)

I didn't try double tapping on the Realforce while I had it, so I can't say directly. My guess is that it will be similar to double tapping on brown switches, i.e., that it is not difficult at all to do, but the switch isn't really built for it like blacks are. Maybe someone who owns a RF can give you a better answer.

I've also tried a friends topre. Unfortunatly I haven't tried any other mechanical board so I can't really compare the feel but personally I wouldn't pay $160 for it. It was pretty nice smooth feel but not so it blew my mind or anything that I'd want to pay such a premium for it. I did try to double tap and it took some effort to do it fast and correctly. That could just be my inexperience with the board and mechanicals in general though and I didn't have it very long.

Sadly, Realforces cost $260. Someday I'll probably get one, but not for a while at that price.

I was under the impression that the RK-9000 was a remake of the ABS M1 and used the white alps?

Could very well be wrong, though.

The RK-9000 is the Rosewill keyboard. It uses Cherry switches:

Aha! Sweet stuff.

Blue switches are an absolute dream.
Indeed they are. After multiple days, I definitely recommend the RK-9000 to anyone who is looking for a Filco-style keyboard with blues, on a budget. It feels solid, works great and has definitely helped with my typing (my WPM has gone up by like 10-15 on average because the tactile feedback helps be keep a tempo going).

There are claims on Geekhack that the RK-9000 is a rebranded Filco. I don't know if it is, but I do know it's awesome.

Alright, anyone else notice the price hike on the Corsair Vengeance boards? The only reason I'm concerned is because I'm waiting for release to buy one.

Originally, they were to be $100 and $120, iirc. Now, they're $110 and $140.

Finally received my filco majestouch-2 with brown switches, and I'm in love! I just want to keep typing on this thing.

Contrary to what I'd heard I didn't suffer an adjustment period - it seems I've grown accustomed to it instantly.

I meant uk pounds sorry. He bought it for about 160 pounds +vat + shipping. At a lower price it would be a great board yes. Maybe apply for a job where they have Topre in the office?

They see that stupid people want to buy half rubberdome/ half mechanical keyboard and the little light turns on in their head saying "Wow we can overcharge the shit on these things and make a kiling off retards"

I could really care less considering there a hybrid board. If I wanted a rubberdome I would get my qsenn out of my closet and use that.

I just got a leopold FC500R with cherry blue switches today and I must say that it's very good except for the stabilizers on the big keys. When I press on them they feel very mushy and doesn't feel anything like a filco that I have tried at a friend's house. Otherwise this keyboard is definitely worth buying.

They're mostly mechanical, and Reds at that. It's only the G keys and esc <-> pause that are standard rubberdome. I think that it should be full mech, but maybe that would be something for the K90 2.0. I hear Reds aren't being manufactured as much as the three common switches, which might be why.

There isn't an adjustment period in terms of fatigue. Maybe the feel, but not the fatigue.

Does anyone know the differences between the ducky 9000 series and 1000 series of keyboards? Specifically interested in differences in quality.

im looking for a cheap mechanical keyboard - not a good value for money one, cos they're still £100 or something.

Is it worth looking for a reasonably cheap one? or is it just gonna break?

really dont wanna spend 1/4 of the value of my pc just on a keyboard

I just looked at Amazon.co.uk. You can get a Cherry G80-3000 for £60 to £70. It is sold with blue switches and black switches in UK layout. To make sure you get the keyboard with the switch you want, look for these codes:

G80-3000LPCGB -- black switch, UK layout
G80-3000LSCGB -- blue switch, UK layout

The code has a -0 added for a light grey keyboard and -2 for a black keyboard. I do not like the writing on the key-caps of the black keyboard (I explained why in another post somewhere). Other than that, the G80-3000 is a solid keyboard without any technical flaws. It does not have n-key-rollover, but the circuit seems to be sane enough for playing CS or something with WASD movement. The looks of the keyboard are perhaps a bit weird nowadays. It is sold for 20 years and has the same look it had in 1990.

Ive never bought a proper keyboard, so i really had no idea about prices but that was slightly more then i wanted to pay.

But i can get a black widow for £70 is that not better?

I suggested the Cherry G80-3000 because it literally is the cheapest mechanical keyboard, if I am not mistaken, and you had asked if the cheaper mechanical keyboards would break. The G80-3000 has an old design, that has proven, it will with good chance not break even after decades of use.

The Blackwidow has a handful of macro keys on the left side, and has media controls, which the G80-3000 keyboard is missing. The comments I saw of people who bought the Blackwidow, it seems to be a good keyboard. The £70 price seems fair. So if you want the additional features, the Blackwidow is better. If you do not need the macro and media keys, I guess you should choose purely by looks, so it is a matter of taste.

The cheapest mechanical keyboard I've seen was a ducky with greep alps for $30 usd brand new.

Really random question, how do you go about ordering one of those? Cos even with google translate it gets extremely tricky

It's cause they use different stabilizers. Supposedly the Filco's are less reliable/more prone to breaking, but feel better, whereas the Leopold/Cherry stabilizers will last just as long as the other keys.

Yes reds, like Blacks, are "linear" switches and don't provide any "bump" or tactile feedback at all. If you've ever tried blacks think like that feel, but lighter/requiring less force. If not, think almost like a standard rubber dome but instead of mushy, it's smooth all the way through. Not the best description I can come up with but they definitely feel really good, and I've been thinking about getting one so that i have both a clicky keyboard (browns) and linear (reds). I wanna wait and see if elitekeyboards gets tenkeyless reds though, I could really use the extra space saved.

Hey guys,

I'm looking for some advice from people who have used Topre switches before. I have a Filco keyboard at home with Cherry MX Brown switches that I'm extremly happy with, but I have just one problem: the keyboard is too loud for me to bring to work.

I recently read about how Topre switches are supposed to feel great without having that loud clicky sound that most mechanical keyboards have. I have a couple questions before I decide to by one though:

First off, how quiet are these switches actually? They don't have to be silent, but if the sound is comparable to a normal "rubber dome" keyboard, that would be ideal.

I really like the tactile "bump" that I get from the Cherry MX Brown switches, how do the Topre switches compare in that aspect?

Any help is greatly appreciated,
Thanks in advance.

unless you use blues(which you said you dont). that'll "shut em up" :D

E: i mean they wont be as silent as those fucking terrible macbook "keyboards" or any laptop keyboards, but as you said rubberdome noise is ok. i have no experience with topre though im sorry

E2: also buying some of these is probably cheaper than a topre

I'm sorry if this has popped up already.

I'd like a mx-black type keyboard, but I'm not the least interested in things like gold plating or metal frames. Does such a keyboard exist, and am I still required to spend $100 for it?

I've never seen a keyboard with a gold or metal frame, but it sounds like a cool idea! There are many, many different keyboards with black switches out there.

I'd say the topre switches are like a loud rubber dome keyboard. It's not something most people would have a problem with unless it's absolute silence you are after.
