Hey guys, im trying to fix my problems with xsplit. If I just start xsplit i got ingame laggs - NOT FPS DROPS. Its not that fluent like if i close it.

Standard behavior with XSplit, it doesn't really matter what computer you have - use a 3rd party screen capture driver to minimize the input lag. See these:

I haven't seen anybody post about streaming 60 fps or even above 30.

30+ FPS is very difficult to obtain using software grabbers like XSplit - I believe most uses (external) hardware grabber cards.

I have the same CPU and I can tell you, you cannot do 30+ FPS at 720p, and frankly I wouldn't if I could - personally I just don't see the reason for it. The difference between 30 and 60 FPS is negligible (http://www.boallen.com/fps-compare.html) - ...subjective opinion I know.

My suggestion for settings:
Stream: 720p @ 30FPS
Location (assuming Twitch.tv): Use a server near you
Preset: Fast
Quality: 10
Max bitrate/buffer: 2500/2500
Audio: 44.1KHz, 16 bit stereo, 128.000 bit/s
Please note that preset, bitrate and buffer might need some tweaking according to your specific rig/internet/random events.

Thanks HellGreen! I'll try these settings out. Also quick question about sc2 settings. Should I be aiming for a certain setup or can I max out my sc2 settings or does that not matter?

My stream shows up as a black window if I run sc2 in "full screen" mode, but if I run it in "windowed (full screen)" it shows up. The only problem is that I seem to lag a bit in windowed (fullscreen). Is this something I can fix?

XSplit only support games that run in windowed fullscreen. But you can use the 3rd party screen capture drivers for better performance - ie. see top post on this page.

Well, you won't have much CPU power in abundance, so for lategame reasons, you might want to lower the settings that use CPU. High graphics that doesn't use the CPU does not really influence streaming SC2 much (roughly: graphics is handled by the GPU - streaming by the CPU). I stream on a combo of "High/custom settings" while trying to keep FPS to at least 25.

How does one try different locations?

When I try to edit Location the only option is Default. No ingestion servers are listed. And yes, I've got the latest JTV plugin.

What version of the plugin do you have then?
I remember the first time I updated the plug-in I had to exit the plugin (the settings) and re-enter it for the updated server list to appear.

Anyway, it should look like this:

Make sure your plugin is updated - see this:
See this: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewpost.php?post_id=11828435

Any discrepancies could be because I have access to non-released versions of XSplit as I'm a member of their "volunteer test team". But the updated server list has been available for quite some time - even before I joined said group.

I'm having issues getting a desired stream quality. After having tinkered with Xsplit for more hours than I'd like to admit over the past few months, I've settled on something that looks okay-ish, but is still disappointing.

CPU: i5-2500k quad-core at 3.3GHz
Graphics: Nvidia GTX 570
8 GB RAM

Video Encoding:
Preset - Xsplit Default
Quality 10
VBV Max Bitrate (kbps): 1200
VBV Buffer (kbit): 400

Audio Encoding:
Format: 44.100 KHz 16 bit stereo
Bitrate: 64000

Menu Settings:
Resolution: 1280x720 (I would ideally like to get this running at 1920x1080, but I can't even get this running smoothly at the moment)
FPS: 30

Speedtest results:
Download 16.81 Mbps
Upload 3.49 Mbps

Here is an example video of the current stream settings (skip ahead 5-6 minutes to see gameplay):
http://www.twitch.tv/go1den/b/300768872

And an example of me attempting 1080p (2000 bitrate, 500 buffer, everything else kept the same as above):
http://www.twitch.tv/go1den/b/300807727

I'm fine with keeping it 720p if I have to, I just wish the quality was better. I feel like both my computer and my internet connection are good enough that I shouldn't have to deal with such inconsistent and sometimes just poor stream quality. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

@ Go1den Overclock your i5-2600k + Show Spoiler +
nice typo!
. You will get 10x better quality, plus the i5-2600k will overclock to like 4.5 on air EZPZ. The higher you clock the better quality you will get.

Higher clock speeds = better h.264 encoding. Faster encoding = better stream quality. You will be able to stream 1080 @ a clock speed above 4ghz.

why get an unlockable CPU when you dont overclock?

I respectfully disagree.
Whether he has the i5 2500k or the i7 2600k, he can not cap his CPU on 720p with the default preset and 1264 kbps.

There's also a potential misunderstanding in your paragraph. While streaming is seriously cpu intensive, more power (clock speed) does not equal better encoding (quality). This is controlled through the h.264 settings (which is the preset setting). For example: An i7 920 and a i5 2500 will give the same quality on default preset, because they are both capable of doing the work that preset requires. However the i5 2500 could also be used with the 'medium' preset and thus give much better quality than the i7 920.

@Gol1den
What is your CPU usage at while streaming SC2?
1) For better quality, increase the preset setting until your CPU is moderately maxed out.
2) Use the Bandwith Test button to determine the best bitrate you can sustain - 1200 kbps on a 720p is not optimum and limits the overall quality as well. Oh, and you will not be able to do 1080p unless you get at least 2500 kbps in the test.
3) Consider increasing the audio to 128 kbps - 64 just sounds bad imho.

Oh, my bad, it's a 2500k. That is a typo indeed. As for CPU usage, when streaming in 720p it's currently around 50-60%. Also, where is this Bandwidth Test button you speak of? I didn't know Xsplit had anything like that, but it sounds incredibly useful.

Also, I would prefer not to overclock it if at all possible. I realize the 2500k is supposedly incredibly easy to OC but I don't see the need for it when I haven't had an issue with CPU being a limiting factor in anything I do yet. If someone were to come along and convince me the only reason I can't stream in 720p or 1080p is my CPU, I'd probably overclock it.

Hey guys, I have a i5-2500k (currently at stock settings but I can OC if needed, a GTX560ti, and 8 GB ram. My upload speed is 3.09 Mbps, Very similar to Gol1den. I would also like to know the optimal settings I should obtain. I've been fiddling with xsplit settings for hours!

50-60% was exactly what I expected. Now adjust the preset to medium and watch the difference in both CPU usage and quality. However it won't be super crisp with only 1200 kbps - hopefully you can find a server that allows for 2000 or more. You do not need to OC your CPU for a 720p.

I'm assuming that XSplit has released this now, since I've seen it in screen shots in other threads. The 'bandwidth test' button is located at the bottom of the "Justin/Twitch.tv properties" window (Tip: Right click your "Justin/twitch.tv" menu item in the "Broadcast" menu). If it is not available, you'll have to wait (or download the un-released version by logging into Xsplit with email: tier3@xsplit.com / password: update).

There's no one-fits-all-configuration in streaming, but here are some loose suggestions:
a) Find out what your upload to Twitch can sustain - use "bandwidth test" button as described above. And remember to run an action packed replay while doing the test.
b) Then set up something like:
Stream: 720p @ 30FPS
Location (assuming Twitch.tv): Use the fastest server you can find.
Preset: Medium
Quality: 10
Max bitrate/buffer: ^^ Use figure found in a)
Audio: 44.1KHz, 16 bit stereo, 128.000 bit/s
Please note that preset, bitrate and buffer might need some tweaking according to your specific rig/internet/random stuff.

Thanks for all of the help and the fast responses. I will report back after trying some of these ideas.

Edit: After updating and running the bandwidth test, I had an average data rate of 1650 kbps. So I take it that means I need to change my bitrate to 1500 or so, would that give me the best results?

You're welcome and yes, that is correct. 1500 kpbs will leave just enough room for the audio. GL

Hey hey everybody! I just started to try out streaming and so far everything is working wonderful.
I only got a minor question concerning the add screen region feature. I am on a res of 1680*1050 and I want xsplit to use only 1400*1050 of the screen so I have 200px for priv. chats as I dont have a 2nd monitor yet.

Everytime I assign the 1400*1050 xsplit edits it into 1680*1050
Is there any possbility?

Thx a lot already =)
