Can someone give me a quick approximation of settings I should be streaming at? Thanks.

Your upload is nice, but your CPU is severely limiting you, but I guess you can try doing a 720p. These numbers are not set in stone, but here you go:
720p: Set your bitrate to 2000 (buffer 2000), 25-30FPS, Preset='Default' or 'ultrafast', Quality=6.

Monitor your CPU usage, and if it is maxed, you need to drop to a 480p/540p:
480p/540p: Set your bitrate to 750-1000 (buffer 750-1000), 25-30FPS, Preset='Default' or 'ultrafast', Quality=6.

You might have success in lowering your desktop resolution to the same or close to what you're streaming in.

To help me understand your CPU better (for future reference), it would be interesting to know what kind of FPS you have ingame (average, not at the start of a game)?

I tried streaming with only a 1mb upload rate. Is this decent?

I get 60 (capped) at the start of the game, around 45 or so late game. Of course, I play on low settings, 1680x1050.

I tried your settings, 720p is unplayable, 480p is playable, but the stream is really laggy. Like 10-12 fps or so.

Ok, 480p is the max then. What does the CPU usage say?
Ps. You might wanna check out the DXtory thread, as it helps a lot on FPS.

Hey I have this small problem and I guess this should be the best place to post

Using Xsplit (latest version) to stream, I the music I play using VLC or Winamp is not picked up by xsplit for some reason. Couldn't find a solution online, maybe I'm overlooking an option or something. Music coming out of Windows Media Player does play, and that's what I used before by my WMP broke and I can't reinstall it without reinstalling windows (retarded if you ask me..)

Anyone know how to make it so that the sound coming out of VLC or Winamp makes it to your stream?
Try another route paperboy.

XSplit picks up all sound sources per default, so your computer/installation is most likely the culprit here. It sounds like you're having some issues if WMP is broken beyond repair. However, you may be able to circumvent the problem using VAC (Virtual Audio Cable) - google or search TL for posts on it - good luck .

Hi, I've tried streaming but my stream is very choppy when trying to go at 720p and 25fps. Here are my specs:
AMD Phenom II X6 Black 3.2ghz
Gigabyte GTX560ti OC
12gb DDR3
D: 5M/ U:800k

with such a low upload, what would be the recommended settings for a smooth stream?

Your upload is limiting you greatly. a 720p on 800 kbit/s is pushing it hard - you generally need from 1.5-2-5 Mbit/s.
Questions:
Can you stream 480p fluently?
Is the lag consistent?
What server are you streaming to? (scroll back in the thread for explanation)
What is your CPU usage at?
And ingame FPS?

Tip: Try lowering your bitrate to 500 kbit/s and go from there.

Hey so I've been trying to set up a stream using xsplit but I still haven't found the optimal settings to use. Here are my specs:
i5 2500k 4.2 ghz
EVGA GTX 560 ti
4GB DDR3 RAM
Upload: 2.87 Mbps
Also I play in 1920x1080

Here are the settings I've used:
Preset: Xsplit default
Quality: 10
Bitrate: 2000 kbps and buffer: 2000 kbit
Audio: 11.025 khz 16 bit stereo with a 16000 bitrate
Resolution: 1280 x 720
FPS: 25

I've had to set my graphics to medium and ingame I get like 50-60 fps which is good but I'm wondering if I could run higher? Whenever I tried to stream on high or ultra the ingame fps was too low. Right now the current stream is at 720p but the stream itself is kinda choppy and laggy. Anyway I could fix this with better settings?

Here is a link to an example vod (note the gameplay is pretty bad I'm playing a computer just to test stream lol)

First, you could check out the Dxtory thread to get better ingame FPS (dxtory is a capture driver, that works better than what XSplit comes with).
Second, I'm really baffled by your FPS drops on high/ultra - it really shouldn't matter that much with your kind of hardware. I able to stream on high with a much less powerful CPU. What kind of CPU usage do you have during streaming+gaming?
Third, your audio settings are terrible - go for 44.1KHz and 128.000 bit/s or more.

To fix the lag, I would suggest lowering your bitrate from 2000 to 1000 - does that help? If so, your connection to the stream server you use is not good - try a different "location" in stream settings. Scroll back in the thread to learn more about location servers: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewpost.php?post_id=11577196.
If it doesn't help, post again with the additional information

Sometime in the soon future, the next version of XSplit will feature a "bandwidth test" button which should make finding the appropriate video bitrate a lot easier!

Ya I dunno whats up with the FPS drops. I just now tried streaming on 29.97 FPS instead of 25 while still on medium settings and it dropped me to like 25 fps in game. When I try to play on high I get like 25 fps too and on ultra its like 9 fps so its unplayable. While streaming/gaming I had 86% CPU usage.

Also, I kept my bitrate at 2000 and just changed the stream server location and that seemed to fix the stream lag so thanks a lot for that tidbit.

To "fix" the FPS, use dxtory - simple as that
Your CPU usage is weirdly high - on your settings I'm hovering around 60% with a i7 920. I can't explain the difference - maybe check Task Manager to see whats going on in details. Also you have to be able to play and stream on ultra - something is going on here.... is your CPU by any chance throttling? Check the specs in ie. "CPU Z" and verify your clock speeds etc. How is performance in FPS intense games?

Well I gave up with DXTory after it wouldn't even record after doing so many things to make the hotkey change. Anyways, I tried running just xsplit with SC2. My main problem is that the FPS in game is at a pitiful 25fps~

Taking a look at the VOD I have below, the quality is actually quite nice, I was wondering what other alternatives (no DXTory) that I could possibly change to get my FPS in SC2 higher.

Comp specs:

i7 720QM 1.6GHz
8GB Ram DDR3
1920x1080 resolution
CPU usage: 20-40%

Xsplit settings:
Quality: 10
VBV Bitrate: 600 VBV Buffer: 1000
Audio: 22.050KHz 16bit 32000

SC2 settings:
1920x1080 resolution
Texture: Ultra
Everything else low
Physics: Ultra
Models: High
Unit portrait: 3d

VOD example:
http://www.twitch.tv/yuikeion/b/299200138

Poor music choice haha, but yeah. I think I covered everything for you guys to give me some recommendations on what I can do to fix my fps.

Sorry to hear you had trouble with Dxtory - but yes it's not bug-free unfortunately.

What is your CPU usage while streaming? There's no way it's 20-40% . Your CPU is not that powerful (http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_lookup.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i7+720QM+%40+1.60GHz) and I'm wondering why you have set CPU-dependent things like "Physics" to ultra - there's no way you CPU can handle that while streaming, sorry.

Comments:
- What is your stream resolution? Because 600k bitrate seems low when you got 2000+ kbit/s available.
- Your sound settings are bad - use 44.1KHz and >=128k bitrate.
- For the FPS issue, you can try a different 3rd party driver, like SCFH (http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=230865), but I'm pretty sure it's CPU related - streaming is insanely CPU intensive - people with twice your CPU power do not always have enough power.

Edit for below post: Oh, I didn't realize you were being limited on monthly traffic when you posted. In that case, of course cut down on the upload as you please.

I'm bit of a bandwidth whore. With only a limit of 250GB, I tend to use the rest on streaming videos, and what not as I at least watch 10-20GB worth on media alone in a month. I understand the part on it being CPU intensive so I'll lower the settings on SC2 and hopefully it will fix some of that lag. Other than that I'm willing to try out your recommendation on the sound and the SCFH driver.

Thanks for the input.

Hey guys, im trying to fix my problems with xsplit. If I just start xsplit i got ingame laggs - NOT FPS DROPS. Its not that fluent like if i close it. My computer specs and internet connection are:

i5 2500k
Phantom GTX570
8 GB corsair
120 GB SSD Vertex 2
Asus p8h67

internet: 100 mb/s download - 5 mb/s upload

Edit: My CPU usage is around 50% - I also changed output resolution to 1-2 steps lower. Still not fluent.

xsplit settings:
fps: 25
resolution: 1280x720 HD
video preset: most on default (I also tried slower - faster and so on)
Quality i tried everything from 5 to 10
Upload first 3000 - then i read that xsplit cant handle that huge bandwith. So i decided to test 1000, 1500 - but nothing changed.

text resized I also disabled.

Stream: http://www.twitch.tv/eNjiin

my channel, where i tried to stream with different settings . i tried nearly everythin. You can check my VODs and see my little "lagg". Thanks for any advice.

Standard behavior with XSplit, it doesn't really matter what computer you have - use a 3rd party screen capture driver to minimize the input lag. See these:

I haven't seen anybody post about streaming 60 fps or even above 30.

30+ FPS is very difficult to obtain using software grabbers like XSplit - I believe most uses (external) hardware grabber cards.

I have the same CPU and I can tell you, you cannot do 30+ FPS at 720p, and frankly I wouldn't if I could - personally I just don't see the reason for it. The difference between 30 and 60 FPS is negligible (http://www.boallen.com/fps-compare.html) - ...subjective opinion I know.

My suggestion for settings:
Stream: 720p @ 30FPS
Location (assuming Twitch.tv): Use a server near you
Preset: Fast
