So what mousepad would you recommend for the Abyssus?

Using Razer Destructor... I really hate razer's mice, but this is a really good mousepad.

I'm going to vouch for the qck heavy (cloth) as well. It was awesome for bw and it's awesome for sc2 now. Although, I'd assume all "gaming" mouse pads are relatively the same. I'm using it with a Salmosa btw.

edit:
Actually some guy a few posts up mentioned that the qck cloth mousepads "destroy" the abyssus? I have no experience with an abyssus so I wouldn't know, but it's strange considering salmosas work perfectly fine and the abyssus is a very similar mouse to the salmosa...

edit again:
Some quick googling shows that the abyssus does indeed have some problems with cloth mouse pads. I'd try looking into the salmosa or some other mouse if hard mouse pads aren't your thing.

as ex amateur leagues cal-main counter-strike 1.6 player, i prefer the puretrak talent mousepad. its a very precise thick cloth mouse pad that has a very consistent feel to it. almost the same as the qck+ but alittle smoother and tracks better based on what ive seen during very quick intense low sensitivity gaming

SteelSeries 4HD and 9HD (4HD is smaller, 9HD larger) are there flagship mousepads, I use them with a Razer Mamba and they allow more accurate tracking than the QCK+ (they have microperforated indentations that makes laser tracking a lot more accurate), but its a hard mat though it doesn't bug me. Also it allows your mouse to move silky smooth :-) and it has a tough grip on the table so it never slides. Could be overkill though if you don't have a gaming mouse.

I've been using http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10104455 for the past 2 years and its worked fine.

That being said, what is the main difference between something like this and a gaming mousepad? I feel it's kinda ridiculous to spend $50 on a "gaming" mousepad. :S

I use a Razer Deathaddler as well.

I don't think there are any $50 gaming mousepads.

The Abyssus has issues with the QcK, but it's perfect with a Goliathus Control.

Being generally a bit wary of Razer products, I tried out the Razer Sphex when I searched for the thinnest mouse pad available (which it probably is).
I am very happy with it, using a Roccat Kone+ on it and getting great results even at 6000 DPI setting despite it having been listed as optimized for medium res. Words can do little to describe how amazingly THIN this thing is, perhaps 1/4 mm I would estimate.

Very happy with it, and strongly recommending it to anyone getting wrist problems from using thicker mouse pads. And at a price of 14€, its was still reasonably priced seeing how Razer also lists mouse pads on their site that go for 50$+.

Edit:

Have used Everglide Titan and Razer Goliathus. Both are very nice, but i prefer the razer. I personally LOVE cloth, but i guess that is kind of a personal preference. I'd just try several kinds of mousepads. Just make sure to buy at a place with a good return policy

I'm using the Zowiegear SpawN mousepad I won from a LAN and I love it! Huge size, perfect surface. Of course this is after using a piece of paper as a mousepad for a while

Choose a mouse pad that corresponds with the optical technology of your mouse, and has low friction. I have had almost all the pads ever made for pro gaming, worth buying. Remember that in SC2 you use the fingers to move, and not your wrist, because of the fast sensitivity you hopefully use. These small surface movements allows you to buy a small pad.
I would recommend all players with regular or smaller sized hands to buy small mice. Big mice are best for wrist movement, small ones are best for finger movements. Just like a drummer uses the wrists for power, and big movement, they also use the fingers for dexterious tasks, like fine rolls..aka Starcraft playing.

That makes no sense soft mats are built for optical mice. Are you sure its not the mouse?

I bought a rocketfish mousepad 2 days ago at one of my local stores with no knowledge of it before hand. It blew me away. IMO the speed side is bad because there is no friction at all. But the control side is great. I would never go back to using a cloth pad again.

Again, the QcK has known issues with it. The QcK is an old design with an extremely thin and tightwoven design that for some reason causes the Abyssus sensor to skip. The Goliathus Control has essentially perfect tracking with the Abyssus as do most modern cloth pads like Zowie.
