Hey guys,
Been googling trying to find the answers for this, but as you know the internet is full of trolls and morons who don't know what they're talking about, so I've come to the TL safe haven to set me straight and true.
I'm looking at getting a decent mouse and mousepad for SC2. I've settled on Razer Abyssus for SC2 because it seems to get good reviews, and it sounds simple and good.
I'm struggling though to decide what kind of mouse pad to get. This is mainly due to their being two distinct types - the "smooth" type and the more rough, "friction" type. For example, Razer has a "Control" and a "Speed" mouse pad.
Everyone seems to have a different opinion on what is better. So I'm asking you all, which one is better for SC2? I know precision is obv important, but it seems like being able to glide the mouse quickly is too.
Dear TL, which mouse pad is best?

Well, I have only used regular mouse pads/ hard surfaces before I bought this:
http://www.rocketfishproducts.com/products/computers/RF-MSEPAD.html
I haven't used any other "pro mouse pads" so I'm limited, but As a graphic artist, who uses a mouse A LOT, and can tell when my mouse is jumping even the SLIGHTEST bit, I have to say, I IMMEDIATLEY FELL IN LOVE, with this dual sided rocketfish mousepad. I hate the look of it, and the cheesy rocketfish graphics on it, but the performance is SOOOOO great. I flip it too the "Speed side" when playing games, and flip it back to the "control" side when using photoshop etc...I like it better than the set-ups they have at my school, and everytime I use a public or someone else's mouse/mouspad, I'm always thinking to myself, WOW i am so spoiled at home..
edit: since rocketfish website is stupid, There are 2 sides on this mousepad, one says control, other says Speed. It is a metal pad, with a plastic coating on each side(NO SQUISHYNESS!!!!), one is a Very Fine finish and the other is a kind of rough finish. So all you have to do is flip the mousepad over to get the desired affect.

I use a steelseries QcK+, because it's huge enough for my low-sensitivity FPS gaming :D I also love the feel of the cloth pad, I couldn't use one of those glass/plastic/other materials/etc. mousepads.
|
Always enjoyed cloth the most. QCK Heavy here. Come from a low sensitivity FPS back ground.

ha the rocketfish looks awesome, unfortunately i cant find it i live in korea, so have to buy online in korea :D
they have all the razer stuff it seems. ugh i just have never used a plastic pad either, and i dont know if ill like it. maybe i should just stick to cloth.
what do u guys think of those razer control/speed pads? and which is better - control or speed?

do you get amazon.com in korea? if you do, search rocketfish mousepad @ amazon.com
however if you have ONLY used the "soft squisy" cloth style mousepads the switch might be a little awkward, I've always preferred Hard Surface, since I have a larger hand, and I put a lot of downward force on my mouse, squishy mousepads just don't work for me since I press too hard, and I'm always pushing too hard and it throws off the accuracy.
good luck in your search imo, mosuepad is undervalued as a piece of your gaming equipment.

another steelseries qck user here. it's massive, it tracks perfectly with every mouse i've used on it. such a huge difference from my old mouse pad.
|
I have a steelseries signed by Jaedong. It works pretty well.
jk lol + Show Spoiler +Ive been getting second place too much recently
Truthfully, I dont think mousepad matters too much. Theres definitely other things you can do to improve your game!

+1 steelseries, have the huge and medium size (i guess that makes +2)
They just feel nice and are uniform. Also black with no stupid huge logo or design on them.
|
Get the original double sided fUnc 1030 sUrface
I had the original when it came out and 10 years later I got the archetype.
Doubled sided and awesome.
(Their online shop is apparently closed due to technical crap (**. )

I have 2 shoplifted Steelseries qCK (get it, steal series? lol) and they're okay. I also had a steelseries HD9 and tbh the QCK has a nice glide feel to it then the plastic HD9 which retails for 49.99. Thats right, 50 dollars for a mousepad. Don't worry I didn't pay for it.

best mousepaddd
it depends on the end user doesnt it!? =O
some like it fast and smooth; some like it with more friction for control
just go to futureshop or a place that has a great return policy.
try some of the brand names like
steelseries and razer if you dont like it; simply return it and make up a fake excuse.
i've returned 6 or so items at futureshop so far and they havent given me any hesitation on the returns (i wasnt be an ass either. the items were in perfect condition when i returned it. i just simply didn't like the item)
*edit* personally; i use the Razer Vespula because I'm a wrist rest kinda guy almost everyone i know hates wrists rests but with the vespula; you can use the mousepad without the wristrest anyway by simply removing it from the bottom. i choose to use it though;
it is also double sided. one side is smooth is frictionless. if you turn it upside down; it becames kinda grainy.
anyway; heres a picture of it.
and without the wrist rest

oo that is cool, it's like my pad, with a wristpad... how much?

The qck+ heavy is the best. Seriously don't buy a razer mouse pad. They are extremely small and the vespula's pad is terrible.
Basically do this: Mouse: Razer (mamba/deathadder preferably) Mousepad: Steel series (qck+ heavy preferably) Keyboard: Any mechanical (Filco preferabaly) Headset: Sennheiser (pc 350 preferably)
Believe me, I have wasted a shit ton of money on gaming gear over the years.

Gotta say I'm enticed and my mousepad is half way decent.
