I went to Best Buy but it was just an upgrade. Is there anywhere I can buy the full version? I have no OS installed atm >_<

Odd they didn't have the full version. Well, same store list. Just call ahead, I suppose.

Yeah I'd just call all the stores nearby and ask if they have it. If one does ask them to reserve it for you and go pick it up. At least that's how it works over here

That's quite a range.. I'd say none of those really.
This, but it isn't really a 7870, more of a cut down 7950:

Doesnt the upgrade version work as a full version anyway?

Or something?

I seem to remember something along these lines.

Okay, so I'm in the market to get a new "gaming" computer mainly i want something to run HOTS at a high level. I'm not very technical with computers AT ALL especially when it comes to hardware. So building one by myself is kinda out of the question. What are some good pre-built PCs? I'm not really looking to cross the 799USD range. I'll list some if these all suck by all means help a gamer out!

Hey hey just want to offer my gratitude and thanks to you all & MisterFred in particular for the assist - would've taken me a lot of research to get that parts list together.

Hello all. After trying to keep my lapptop afloat, its become apparent that its time has passed and I need a more reliable PC. Im hoping you all can help me with it.

Budget: About 700-900 USD

Resolution: 1920x1080

Using it for:. Gaming mostly, LoL and SC2. I also listen to a lot of music and use music writing programs, like Guitar Pro and a few others. Also lots of basic Office programs, since im in college.

Upgrade Cycle: about 2 years.

When do you plan on building this?: Within the next month, just waiting on taxes.

Overclocking?: nope!

Need an OS?: nope, got windows 7 already

Need a 2nd GPU for SLI or Crossfire?: Preferably not. :/ maybe in the future if I ever get the urge to stream or something.

Where are you buying parts from?: Bestbuy, newegg, amazon. Just the basic places.

Thank you in advance for any help I hope someone has the time to look at this

I posted earlier in this thread with CPU temp problems. I have just resolved them and it turns out that the problem was that my heatsink was not seated properly. I ended up replacing it with a new heatsink just because I thought I might as well replace the stock one, but here is what my stock heatsink looked like when I took it off:

http://i.imgur.com/7mkqI.jpg

Pretty sure that explains why I got 90C temps during something as simple as CS:GO. After replacing it with a hyper 212+, my computer now idles at ~26C and only goes up to about ~36C during CS:GO.

PHEW, I FINALLY just finished putting everything together. Wall of text incoming. + Show Spoiler +
I was REALLY worried about installing my new heatsink correctly as I freaked out about it shorting my mobo when I finally came to that nervracking moment of truth, and also had several minor mishaps that make you cringe very hard. Since this is the first heatskink with a backplate I ever installed I simply followed the instruction like a robot and hoped for the best (shouldn't that mean I'm completely safe? ). I then broke off this weird little latch on the mobo that holds the GPU in. It was COMPLETELY different than my old mobo's latch that you just pulled up and away from the gpu to unlatch it, this one slid back and forth...threw me off really badly and I snapped it off on accident. No big deal as the socket is what really matters, so I put my GPU in and screwed it into the case without any other incident.

Then I dropped my screwdriver onto my mobo (from a very low height at least) and almost had a panic attack thinking I just killed it. Then when I went to push down the latch on my CPU I realized it was EVER SO SLIGHTLY out of place and wondered why I had to apply an uncomfortable amount of pressure on it (I could hear metal creaking a bit, which was almost blood curdling). I didn't even see my cpu go down or level out when I moved it, I simply gave it the slightest push with my finger while it was comfortably in the socket already and then the latch went down much more easily. The first thoughts in my head though were: "YOU BENT THE PINS ON YOUR MOBO YOU MORON THATS WHY IT DIDNT GO DOWN RIGHT THE FIRST TIME!!!"

I also talked about cable management in my last post....well when you have 5 SATA cables and fan cables with a mediocre imo cable management case you can only do so much. I stashed as many cables in the HDD bay and in the back of the case as I could, but cable length and the stiffness of them once I started running out of room was very limiting in regards to what positions I could safely contort them into. All in all, I had a lot of little mistakes that had me worried beyond belief, it took about 3 1/2 hours to finish not just installing but double checking all of my cables to make sure they were in correctly ( the tiny ones at the bottom for pwr switches, reset switches and such always confuse me a bit in every build).

But finally, the part you all care about....when I finally hooked it up (without putting the side panel back on for superstition's sake) and hit that power button with sweaty, sore and most of all anxious fingers, my PC..... + Show Spoiler +
started up and went right to a bluescreen and then said " a recent hardware/software change may have caused an error etc" or some bs that I can't remember correctly. Basically, it did what it should had done with a new mobo and guts installed with the same old OS still there. I think it was a success, no popping sound, no rattling fan, my CPU fan and GPU fans turned on perfectly and were very quiet. I'm quite happy, but the stress testing has yet to begin, and before that I might have to drop 100 bucks on an OEM copy of windows ;___;.

PS: I looked in the UEFI (snazzy looking) and my cpu's idle temp is 33-34c. I think that's pretty normal with a 67F ambient and only one case fan running, so extra cooling is at a minimum. I expect that temp to go down perhaps 1c or 2.

Hey looking to build a new PC...

My budget is $500. I have a 1080p display, and will use it for light-ish gaming, coding, and photoshop. Not worried about upgrading, just want the best thing possible I can get at the moment. I'll have more budget in the future, but my current PC is dying a quick death and I need to build a new one ASAP. As I already have these, I don't need an OS, display, keyboard, mouse, dvd drive, or hard drives (although i'd consider adding a SSD if you guys think it's a good idea).

Looking to order everything on Newegg or Amazon.

Thanks a lot!

Rosewill Stallion 400W (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182074)

Note that this build doesn't include a case yet. Pick one that fits your preference in terms of looks, size and features. Total price after mail-in-rebate (on the video card) = $456, so you can add a case up to $44 and stay within your budget. There's also a $15 Newegg gift card included in this (with the CPU, I believe), but I didn't count it towards the total price.

Note that the video card in this setup is quite weak. It'll play games, at low settings, so in that way it's good for light gaming. However, it does allow you to have pretty much the best CPU you can get price/performance-wise with the potential to overclock without going over your initial $500 budget. The videocard can be replaced later on when you have more budget. A possible modification:

Step down a notch or two in CPU power, replace the motherboard by one with a lower level chipset and drop the third party cooler (use the one included with the CPU instead). This'll remove your ability to overclock, but will free up considerable budget (up to $100) for a videocard (and/or SSD). This'll leave you with a more balanced setup (for gaming at least) from the start, but there's less of an obvious upgrade opportunity. The original setup I suggested has a clear single point for upgrading, which makes it easier when you have some additional funds in the future.

Yes, the $699 build has a shitty graphics card which won't allow you to play at settings other than low.

The second one is okay but sub-optimal.

Not sure why you selected a Rosewill Stallion????????? It's absolutely awful and the Corsair CX430 (2012), Antec Neo Eco 400C, and Antec VP450 are all significantly better at the same price.

Meh, I just picked one to get a price-estimate on the list. I'm not too up to date about PSUs. But the total budget doesn't change if you swap it out for any of the units you mentioned.

Hi, I recently got a new mobo, and gather I can't install my OEM copy of Windows onto it? WTF Microsoft? I had to get a new motherboard so that it would support the CPU. Is there anything I can do? I really don't want to fork out another 90 plus euro for Windows 7.
