Single threaded CPU performance is a very valuable thing to be boosting for lots of things (particularly sc2) + Show Spoiler + UPDATE: I repeated the experiment with a late game ZvZ replay with maxed armies: 3300 MHz: Avg: 41.925 - Min: 27 - Max: 58 3700 MHz: Avg: 46.625 - Min: 32 - Max: 63 4400 MHz: Avg: 56.025 - Min: 39 - Max: 77 On a 2500k (very close to 3570k in performance) - note MINIMUM FPS

I'm off to DL some testing software and a game or two to test. Cheers everyone and good luck with your builds. update: idle temps on all 4 cores hover around 27-25-24-25. Pretty even temps and I'm happy about that. Low temps as well with the hyper 212 evo. Feels nice. update 2: gpu is idling at 31-33c :O

Haven't played any games yet, but everything is fully recognized and I've installed my gpu drivers after having a small scare (mobo didnt recognize my GPU, only recognized something was plugged into the socket, but knew specifically what other parts I had installed so I thought something was off.) Turns out the mobo needed me to install the display drivers, makes sense and all but was kinda odd that it knew my exact memory and cpu version but not GPU. Something else I've noticed is the font is much clearer with this gpu and drivers than my old 260 core 216. Much cooler system overall and just imo a much more well thought out build. Let's cross our fingers and hope this thing isn't some big illusion that is only stable enough to use the internet on :O.

Most of the time we don't recommend closed loop water coolers at all, as they're annoying and generally inferior to a similarly priced air coolers. The only time they're better is if you have a tiny case that can't fit an air cooler, which isn't the case. The powersupply is more than enough, It's pretty much the best PSU for single gpu intel rigs. Cache doesn't matter. Any 1tb platter hdd is fine.

Although I know of some people that were pretty close to a deliberately lit bushfire a couple of years ago, that was a really bad one.

![]() Edit: Might have been a false alarm, forgot to install some drivers and just got done playing some metro 2033 and it was fine. Has been stable for 15 minutes now, where as before it would literally freeze so much I almost couldnt send my last message (took 10 minutes to finish typing it my pc froze so much). Cross your fingers ladies and gents.

answers to the basic questions: + Show Spoiler + What is your budget? in the 600-900€ range, no new monitor nor HDD nor case needed What is your resolution? i'm currently playing mostly at the prehistoric 1024x768, monitor supports 1280x1024 obv with proper hardware behind it. i also own a geforce 520 bought as a temporary fix when the old card broke (an 8600gt,lol) What are you using it for? Mostly gaming and i'd like to have spare power for streaming and retain general versatility... What is your upgrade cycle? 2-3 years, ideally 3+years. When do you plan on building it? asap. Do you plan on overclocking? i've never overclocked before, given my pretty long upgrade cycle i was mostly worried to negatively affect the hardware's life, however i could see myself OCing keeping an eye on that. Do you need an Operating System? no Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire? nope. Where are you buying your parts from? i'm european, italian specifically, and will mostly be buying from online stores, amazon.it especially, and search the urban areas around me for good retailer deals. i already own + Show Spoiler + a Acer AL1715 monitor,a Samsung 830 SSD + other HDDs, a Xonar DG audio card (strange,ah?) and a venerable COLORSit EN60950 PSU(450W, 18A on the 12V) which kept up my old computer pretty much flawlessly anyways... also own a geforce 520,as i've already wrote i'd like to avoid Asus motherboards due to bad personal experiences and i have a slight preference towards Nvidia gpus for i always had them working flawlessly here's my first idea: CPU Intel® Core i5-3570K 204€ RAM Corsair 2 x DIMM 4 Gb 240-pin DDR3 SDRAM 1600 mhz Vengeance (couldn't find CAS latency) 40€ GPU here i'm kinda out of ideas, i was looking for a 560ti more than a year ago, but it looks like it isn't nearly anymore the bargain in price\performance it used to be,as it is utterly destroyed by the new 600 series, the 670 is apparently its spiritual successor, however i feel like that is too much money and too much overkill, and i have mixed feelings towards 660ti.... and on the ATI\AMD, i'm just clueless PSU OCZ OCZ500MXSP ModXStream Pro 56€ or Corsair CMPSU-500CXV2EU 65€ or even the one i already own many thanks in advance for the help

but it wouldnt hurt for it to have an upgrade hehe XD (motherboards, cpu, ram, graphics card, psu, etc.) i only play starcraft 2 with pretty much low settings (texture is medium) would like to try going for medium or high my fps wont stay constant throughout the game and i would like to try to hit constant 60 fps i watch alot of videos and i would also really like it if i could watch it usually in 720p (i wouldnt mind the 1080p though ) specs im pretty sure that i have to give memory ram is the integral = 2gb intel core 2 duo 2.93 ghz graphics card = old school = nvidia geforce 9500 gt *if you need more details please ask, though i am a noob when it comes to computers, so please go easy :D haha i dont really know what would be a sufficient price, but i guess as low as possible haha this student cannot really afford elite equipment :p haha

I have altered my build slightly to get more solid SSD and Mother board also a more reliable power supply and more powerful graphics card at the expense of the I7 3570k.

My budget is 1300$ CAD and I'm buying from NCIX http://i.imgur.com/xzjJy.png I choose the I7 because it fit with the build and I'd rather have too much power than too little. Same goes for the power supply, though I don't know if those particular parts are best for that price range either. Since I don't have experience with Thermaltake stuff. I've also chosen to pay the 50$ to have ncix put it together, because in all honesty it would save me the pain and the risk of screwing things up, plus it would be all set up for me so I wouldn't have to spend the hours it would take to put the thing together.

The no brainer would be a rosewill capstone 450-500W but I know they're though to find in Europe. Ram is kinda overkill. The 16Gb choice is arguable since you will be using PS and other stuff, but anyway, £35 for 8Gb is absolutely not worth it. Remember ram is the thing that matters the least in your build. You won't see any difference between basic, life-warranted ram and overpriced good-looking aggressively warpainted badass long-named ram. Moreover, it's the easiest component to replace (allthough you don't want to) or add, so my advice would be buying 8Gb and then another 8Gb from local retailer if you feel the need. (Anyway you will most likely buy 2x4Gb sets so it does not matter if you buy different rams.) Seeing the other prices on your list, and knowing that the prices are kinda crazy in UK, a £19 Heatsink worries me a bit

So I need help somewhat soon in finishing off my build. It is kinda crazy that you are spending $1300 and cant afford a SSD. (maybe you dont want one, I dont know). Your parts are really not at bargain prices. For example: your ram is 25% more expensive than it should be, 660Ti at 300? :o and.... I couldn't find your post with the questions from the OP answered but my understanding is that you want the PC for general gaming + streaming. Its kinda important to know which games you play and plan on playing in addition to your resolution before making a recommendation on the GPU. It is also important to know at what resolution and fps you plan to stream. For example, an OCed i5 will be able to stream 720@30 irc and looking that you are from Canada, Im guessing you dont have enough arms and legs to afford the internet that is required for 1080@60. I would be more than happy to put together a build for you if you give us your resolution/games/stream settings if thats what you want. edit: also, you should wait till Wend night for the weekly sales to refresh. Will stop spamming this thread now ![]() The black boxes are probably you forgetting to install something. As for the freezing, did you run memtest86+ for ~24 hours after setting up the computer? id bet ~$10 that its a RAM issue.
