I think you can run both, just not sell legally. Nobody really cares about the legality of it either way, though

I just finally set it up but am a retard and forgot to buy Windows 7/8. Where can I buy a full version of this? I'd rather be able to go to a store and pick it up today rather than waiting a few days for it to be mailed. Ty any store really...target, best buy, places like that. I went to Best Buy but it was just an upgrade. Is there anywhere I can buy the full version? I have no OS installed atm >_< Doesnt the upgrade version work as a full version anyway? Or something? I seem to remember something along these lines.
If it works the same as in Belgium, you just got screwed by one of the shitty staff member from the shop. What "upgrade edition" means is that you CAN upgrade from XP or Vista to 7/8 without losing your data and settings/preference (or at least most of it). But in no way does it mean that you are obliged to still own a valid key for one of these previous Windows editions. So anywho trying to convince you to buy "integral edition" (2XXeuros) is either trying to screw you up, either a complete retard. Either way, the notice on the box is very clear in that regard, with a big bolded mention "Does not need any previous version of windows" or some equivalent shit.
Fyi, upgrade versions of Windows in the sense that it is cheaper and does need a previous version of windows to work are only sold online and in the few months after the release (As it was the case for Windows 8, which was sold ~50euros to 7 users).
IMPORTANT: Do not mess up with "STARTER EDITION": this IS an upgrade for 7 netbook users to switch from limited 7 netbook edition(needed) to normal 7 edition.
TL;DR: What you should be looking if you do not have special needs is Windows 7 Home premium edition (Yeah, I know, this is the basic edition, but, you know, marketing shit and stuff), which is ~100euros.

Yeah thats what i figured. So just get the upgrade.

According to Microsoft yes, something along those lines. But thats only a marketing thing to get you to spend more money. There's no real legal precedent for it as far as I know.

I'd get a basic B75 for $55 and use the left over for a ~120gb SSD instead.
2133MHz kit is $5 less:
Corsair 300R for $50:
The MSI GTX 650 Ti PE OC is better than the EVGA at $140:
Oh, don't know how I overlooked the rebate on the 3220. Thanks a lot! I'll replace everything you recommended.
Any recs for a 120gb SSD? These two look good: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147188 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231613

Samsung 840 is good.
The 3220 has a promo, not a rebate. I hope you know how rebates work. They're not included in your check-out total. You have to fill out a form, mail it with the UPC code (or whatever they ask for), and you get a cheque / prepaid credit card back in a few months.
|
Thanks! Yeah, I've done rebates before, I just used the wrong terminology there. Down to $525 with what looks to be a great machine. Thanks a lot for the help skyR!

(If I want to sell it, the new owner might want to install an OS using it) Or can I run Windows on both of them just fine (assuming I get the second key from Microsoft.
Thanks, I appreciate it.

The motherboard is not tied to anything, you can infinitely install operating systems on it.

Ah, OK thanks for your help. I'm getting a 3570k + asrock pro3 z77 + 8 GB corsair vengeance 1600mhz RAM in the post tomorrow; I'm excited A nice upgrade from 4GB @ 1333 and a Phenom II 925. These should pair well with my 7950 :D Hopefully it goes without a hitch. Thanks again.

Just pick a USB wireless adapter off of Newegg with a decent rating that you like. USB > Pci
To the guy with the 893$ prebuilt... good build, prices aren't AWFUL (good for a prebuilt I guess). Building one would save you quite a bit of money though, at that price you could probably get a 3570k and a 7870? Something like that.
Edit: Yeah. I built a 3570K, 7870, better case, and PSU for 940$. Would be definitely much better. Alternatively you could get the same build and save 1-200$. And I could easily trim off 40$ I think, I did absolutely zero price checking and didn't account for the coupons simply on Newegg.

On January 06 2013 17:01 Serpico wrote:PHEW, I FINALLY just finished putting everything together. Wall of text incoming. + Show Spoiler +I was REALLY worried about installing my new heatsink correctly as I freaked out about it shorting my mobo when I finally came to that nervracking moment of truth, and also had several minor mishaps that make you cringe very hard. Since this is the first heatskink with a backplate I ever installed I simply followed the instruction like a robot and hoped for the best (shouldn't that mean I'm completely safe? ). I then broke off this weird little latch on the mobo that holds the GPU in. It was COMPLETELY different than my old mobo's latch that you just pulled up and away from the gpu to unlatch it, this one slid back and forth...threw me off really badly and I snapped it off on accident. No big deal as the socket is what really matters, so I put my GPU in and screwed it into the case without any other incident. Then I dropped my screwdriver onto my mobo (from a very low height at least) and almost had a panic attack thinking I just killed it. Then when I went to push down the latch on my CPU I realized it was EVER SO SLIGHTLY out of place and wondered why I had to apply an uncomfortable amount of pressure on it (I could hear metal creaking a bit, which was almost blood curdling). I didn't even see my cpu go down or level out when I moved it, I simply gave it the slightest push with my finger while it was comfortably in the socket already and then the latch went down much more easily. The first thoughts in my head though were: "YOU BENT THE PINS ON YOUR MOBO YOU MORON THATS WHY IT DIDNT GO DOWN RIGHT THE FIRST TIME!!!" I also talked about cable management in my last post....well when you have 5 SATA cables and fan cables with a mediocre imo cable management case you can only do so much. I stashed as many cables in the HDD bay and in the back of the case as I could, but cable length and the stiffness of them once I started running out of room was very limiting in regards to what positions I could safely contort them into. All in all, I had a lot of little mistakes that had me worried beyond belief, it took about 3 1/2 hours to finish not just installing but double checking all of my cables to make sure they were in correctly ( the tiny ones at the bottom for pwr switches, reset switches and such always confuse me a bit in every build). But finally, the part you all care about....when I finally hooked it up (without putting the side panel back on for superstition's sake) and hit that power button with sweaty, sore and most of all anxious fingers, my PC..... + Show Spoiler +started up and went right to a bluescreen and then said " a recent hardware/software change may have caused an error etc" or some bs that I can't remember correctly. Basically, it did what it should had done with a new mobo and guts installed with the same old OS still there. I think it was a success, no popping sound, no rattling fan, my CPU fan and GPU fans turned on perfectly and were very quiet. I'm quite happy, but the stress testing has yet to begin, and before that I might have to drop 100 bucks on an OEM copy of windows ;___;.
PS: I looked in the UEFI (snazzy looking) and my cpu's idle temp is 33-34c. I think that's pretty normal with a 67F ambient and only one case fan running, so extra cooling is at a minimum. I expect that temp to go down perhaps 1c or 2.
Man who woulda thought building comps would be so stressful
I recently put together a PC with the following specs for about 900$ Canadian: -CPU: Intel Core i5-2500k -GPU: nVidia GTX 660 Ti 2GB OC -Mobo: Gigabyte Z77-UD3H -Memory: 8GB DDR3 Corsair Vengeance -PSU: 600W Corsair GS
It should serve me well for the next 4-5 years.

Hi,
I am a bit of a layman when it comes to the ins and outs of hardware choices. If you could check over my build and offer any suggestions / changes that would be fantastic.
1. Build will be used for gaming and 3d / 2d art. I am a games artist by trade. 2. Budget is about 950£ buying in the UK most likely from overclockers.co.uk 3. Upgreade Cycle is 3+ years. 4. i would like to learn about over-clocking using this build. At first it is not the priority. 5. I have an operating system and do not plan on using SLI or Crossfire.
6. So far I'm fairly happy with what I have. my main questions are: - Am I getting the most for my money? - Are there any areas I should spend more / less money? -Is this build suitable to learn about over clocking on?
![[image loading]](http://dl.dropbox.com/u/36540828/PC_Pod_Final_Cosair_Case.JPG)
This is a link to the build. If an image is not acceptable please give me a shout and i will throw up text links (I couldn't find anything saying this was not allowed).
Thanks for all your help in advance. I look forward to seeing what you think.

I think I've lost my Windows 7 license key Where would I find it on my OEM license? I am just afte installing anew mobo. Apparently some programmes will get the key for you, but as I've already installed the new mobo and parts, undoing that would be a real pain.
I guess I'll have to call Microsoft, unless I can find my product key. Where would it be located? I have the disk and also a manual, but it doesn't seem to be on either of them.
Windows is also installed on both my SSD and HDD, both of which are connected to my PC as of now. Assuming I find my key, what would be the protocol for installing Windows? Can I insall without the key and get it then for aactivation? If i do that, does the installation overwrite the Windows installion currently on my SSD/HDD? SOrry for the hurried post, basically I'm looking for the mechanics of installing my OS onto using a new mobo. I can't call Microoft for a new key until tomorrow 'cos the phones for these particular issues .aren't 24/7
