Its a $100K tournament. If it was just a showmatch with a small or non existent prize pool it wouldn't be so bad. The fact that its one of the biggest tournaments of the year (money wise) means it should have proper seeding/qualification.
There are players performing a lot better than byun or sos that haven't even got a shot at getting in. Plus, it's one of the only time we get to see foreigners vs Koreans, I want to see the best, not the ones reddit likes the most.

Maybe that's more like a write-in vote for Avilo than a vote for Has

GSL vs all stars and the GSL champion is not there? I understand that there was a criteria for selection, but when those criteria exclude the fucking GSL Champion from the GSL team, then there is something wrong with the reasoning.

I wonder if they'll pit a korean vs a foreigner for all ro16 matches... if so then RIP foreigners....

If that means more popular players get a shot over better players - then so be it. Being popular should count for something. After all competition is meant to entertain spectators and popular players draw more interest to the tournament which is good viewer-wise.

I definitely remember at some point reading in the US version or some official post or something that it's GSL vs The World in every Ro16 match.

Nah John Scott ended up scoring two goals. So Has sounds pretty accurate.

The only time a fanvote tournament is acceptable is when it's purely for show, not for serious money (it's a $100K prize pool ffs, probably $35K for first place). This is the biggest non-GSL tournament in korea we've had for years.... All players should have an equal chance. Even doing it purely of WCS points would be alright, because at least they've earnt it via performance.
You cannot deny that aLive and gumiho have outdone themselves by a mile this year, meanwhile ByuN's done nothing impressive and he's the one that gets a shot. Because reddit is obsessed with him.
And btw being popular already counts for something, it gets you better streaming income and more potential sponsorship/team support.

With 100K on the line, this ridiculous voting place is just stupid. It kind of cheapens the SC2 tournament into some sort of popularity contest when it is all about skills and competition. I'm not sure who comes up with this childish idea.
|
Okay, if you're gonna have the thing be a popularity contest, which is by no means optimal, at least make sure the polls and the site they're on work properly. That's the least Blizzard should do.

The idea of these invites is very silly. Now top 4 of WCS may change after Valencia, why didn't they wait 3 more days with invites? We may have a new wcs champ who is not invited. We will get Korea vs World without best Koreans and best WCS players because someone decided to invite Chinese players and make a popularity test. This is so stupid that its funny. Just kill the game and waste money make all fans upset, buff reapers.

Flights and hotels booked, etc. They didn't count season 3 for the Korean invites either, at least it's consistent in that regard.

They still have enough time if they made a vote last 7 days and then organize flights. Even though its difficult or impossible to vote from EU right now so the vote is already "rigged".
