I dunno much about the Korean scene, but I am sure they are pissed off because they only lost and gained none. Why do you guys, the TL community, think that Blizzard went out of its way to decrease the number of seasons in KR when they did not have to? Korean scene has more money than before so they didn't only lose Anyhow it was probably some random decision by someone "wouldn't our prize pools look SO much bigger if we condense the them into 2?"

- make each championchip win more meaningful - higher price pool for the leagues means more prestige but it's too expensive to saturate 3 seasons with this amount of money - decreasing viewership in SC2 results into decreasing investment I do not agree with any of these thoughts but I could understand it, if those where the reasons. Apart from that the decrease seems kinda random to me.

The whole point of SSL in 2015 was to give more opportunities for progamers to win championships.

Because To make it so more people can follow these exciting tournaments and to open up space in the schedule for the cross-finals, each league will operate two seasons next year, with a significant increase in prize pool for the leagues. from the WCS announcement.

SSL: because SpoTV wants to dedicate less time to SC2 and more time to more profitable games. GSL: because Afreeca didn't think SC2 was profitable enough (otherwise they would invest in it before), and now that they bought the studio they will run only 2 seasons to test the waters and see if it is worth to invest in it. Summary: lack of interest from broadcasters. Sorry, I know this is a deadgaem-y post but I think those are the reasons

We don't actually know who made which desicion behind WCS 2016. So we should discuss it as a whole and not blame or praise one particular party.

Also SSL is much smaller as a tournament now that they've removed "Challenger League" to get into the Ro16 and removed the group stage Ro16 in favor of Bo3 single elimination. In other words, the Ro16 is now 8 Bo3 series instead of 20 Bo3 series, and we've lost all 12 Bo5 series from Challenger. Really, SSL is now basically a weekend tournament in terms of its small scope (only 18 series in the entire tournament) just held over a long period of time. It's unfortunate, I'd have hoped that LotV would engender some additional interest but it doesn't seem like it.

I am happy GSL even happens, as that was somewhat in limbo when afreeca took over. And maybe we get some rebroadcasts even xD.

So if you would have three seasons per korean tournament we would have 6 seeds and only 2 players per wcs points. Right now it is 4:4 which seems more reasonable. At least that could be one of the reasons, money probably the bigger one? (maybe?)

If koreans would still be allowed at international tournaments I would have liked this change but now I think it's bad because if a player gets knocked out of the starleagues and doesn't play proleague he has nothing to play in for half a year
