That would be wonderful!!~~
The fact that Korean viewers can watch on youtube in HD for free is a stick in the face too!~~

Everyone underestimates the autonomy the Korean region has. Even Blizzard Korea has a certain amount of freedom from HQ. This will not easily change.
I believe GOM is hurting more than people realize, but only time will tell. You wouldn't believe their license fee.

It worked well, was easy to use, and was reliable.

I could set up series, and work out without having to pause my exercise session to fix stupid VOD issues or player issues. It was a sad day when they took down their entire old site. I gave the new system a go but it just didn't work well, and the Youtube VOD stuff almost never worked as well as their site did.

I used to pay for every season without thinking back when they had the gom player.
Pretty obvious they only care about the KR viewerbase, just dont buy/sub and instead watch S2SL/Proleague.

Yup, I've been there and paid for watching GSL vods myself. Twitch is so horrible in comparison and the stream quality is horrible. Wont pay.

Yes, S2SL and SPL actually have better production. And free vods. And casters that don't laugh at their own jokes more than half the broadcast.
Watching the french GSL stream actually isn't that bad. I don't understand it, but I don't understand Korean streams either.

I have seen a few people mention the French stream,,,,where to watch please??

They'll feel super-hurting when their foreign fan-base evaporates. If the Koreans are getting the content for free, they're obviously not making much money off of them. That's not an excuse to gouge your only paying customers. There's a certain amount of shit you have to give away for free to get customers "in the door" (for lack of a better expression).
Considering we all have access to Youtube, and the same content the Koreans get for free, it makes zero sense to paywall something as trivial as a 720p English live stream. Locking the VODs makes sense, because that's the way it used to work, but it makes less sense when the VODs are still available as long as you're willing to watch them in Korean.
They're treating their foreign customers like shit. We're not talking about a charitable organization here, we're talking about a business. I don't care if they're hurting. They're giving shit away for free to Koreans. If they were hurting so badly, they would charge Koreans the same way they do everybody else.

They blocked the live stream, but the Korean VODs are all here, in HD. No reason to subscribe unless you absolutely need to watch an English cast. Thankfully, Starcraft is like a universal language and viewers can surely determine what's going on without the legendary banter of Tastosis.

good thing I stopped watching the gsl a year ago or so. and now there is SSL and proleague.
|
Well i guess they thought nobody would notice.
|
This complaining is rediculous. GSL is a Buisness which provides entertainment. When you own a buisness there's a lot of expenses, in this case, Casters prize money etc. The subscription cost is 13.99$ which is almost the same as going to see 1 movie where I live at least. Stop being cheap and pay the $13.99 and then you don't have to worry about it the whole season. I know a lot of people here don't have a lot of money but seriously people $13.99..... SUPPORT GSL for all the other seasons they gave you free entertainment and then you get all the vods too. None of you have any idea of their financial situation so please pay up or quit whining about 14bux.

The problem is that they are trying to earn peanuts in a shrinking niche market. I think this strategy can never ever be profitable and is outright stupid.
They need ways to entice global sponsors and earn money solely based on advertising deals with said global sponsors which could be a good match for their global audience. However i suspect that the eyeballs are just not there to land any of the sponsors they would need to path the way to a healthy sustainable growing business.
In my opinion Tasteless and Artosis will be out of a job soon since i don't see a viable way to continue justifying the english stream, unless of course Blizzards opens their chequebook.
|
Of course this strategy can be profitable. $13.99 is nothing to people with jobs that don't smoke weed all day. Plenty of people will pay as they have in the past. Just by you not watching the stream anymore GSL doesn't doesn't lose anything. You really think they're making money off ad revenue from the 2-4k average foreign viewiers LOL idiots on this thread seriously. The problem with all these other leagues is that none of these casters are as good as Tasteless, and Artosis and you all know that.

I've been thinking about this all day and have come to the conclusion that you're all ridiculous. Five bucks a month for the best SC2 tournament on the planet is a great fucking deal, if you don't like it then you shouldn't buy it. All the people posting that they think GSL is crap anyway should shut up double hard, why would it bother you that you can't see content you don't enjoy?

funny thing is that this only happens in starcraft. all the dota tournaments are free to watch in hd and to watch the vods.

Sounds like a blast from the past to me, brings back that nostalgia.
