Does anyone else think the seasons last far too long? Having the same maps for like 3 or 4 months is horrible. I know that WCS tournaments have to use the ladder pool on ladder in their tournaments, but changing every month or so wouldn't be so bad. I'd love to see month-long seasons where each new season sees only 1 new map added and the least popular one removed.

They should have 10 ladder maps.

Give people 3 more vetoes for the 3 additional maps added. This means that people who only care about practicing on WCS maps (which will be mostly professional players) can veto the non-WCS maps out completely if they so wish.

The 3 non-WCS maps can rotate monthly. They could be selected from a monthly mapping competition. TL already run monthly mapping competitions so a collaboration would be perfect, but Blizzard could easily do it via their own forums if they so wished.

Maps that work well re: balance can be noted down and put into the next WCS map-pool. Maps that don't work well re: balance can be rotated out and canned. Should lead to greater balance over time as you're actually testing maps for balance before putting them on the "official ladder" (by which I mean WCS maps).

I'm a genius.

YO BLIZZARD MY CV IS AVAILABLE JUST SAYING!

Or you could, you know, have non-WCS tournaments use two or three non-ladder maps instead of the full ladder map pool. No need to go up to 10 maps and use a broken veto system (because you don't have one map in common with an opponent who vetoed the exact opposite of you) or to involve Blizzard in this since they look totally uninterested in this. No need to be a genius either.
And Uvantak is 100% right about the fact that Blizzard's policy about balance isn't coherent at all. You don't change both maps and units values. You change one OR the other, or if you do both you proceed with caution. I'm pretty sure the only reason you bitch about the current ladder map pool is because of the winrates (which is 100% understandable, these WR are in fact imba for most of the current map pool), but it doesn't mean that the maps are shit. It just means that the maps are shit in the current state of balance, so no need to blame the mapmakers for that.

they're not interested in this afaik, there have been attempts but nothing really came out of it.

They're probably not because they're morons. They allowed Catallena, Merry Go Round, Nimbus, Foxtrot and Deadwing to be in the same map-pool as one another. Their map judgement is horrendous.

Doesn't stop my idea being golden

Well if you want we can give you 7 standard maps, we can shit those out any day, the issue happens where you realize that not everybody thinks the same way you do, and have different tastes, we can't and won't cater only to you Sated, you are only one member in the community, a loud one, but one non the least.

Regarding people whining of balance of the current map pool i remind you that this map pool was design to give terran an advantage on those maps, since when the maps were made terran was clearly having issues, it is really fun to read those comments since it clearly showcases the short memory issues many people in the "player community" faces. The problem now days with balance in the map pool, is caused because our dear friend david, who didn't take the new maps into account at all when putting his balance patches out, meaning that now we have a buffed terran with maps that favour terran.

I don't want seven standard maps, but one standard map out of seven isn't good.

How this isn't obvious to everyone is completely out of my realm of comprehension.

Catallena, Pantanal & Merry Go Round.

3 ≠ 1

Catallena and MGR are standard?

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

No wait, you're serious? XD

Sorry for the delay Sated, i was making a new wallpaper.

But yes, Seated, this is a non standard map.

Meanwhile this is a standard map.

Also depending in who you ask Deadwing and maybe KSS can be considered standardish too (KSS not that much really).

So because of the short season I assume that new maps will be out before the next year of WCS starts right? Are there any end of year tournaments such as Dreamhack that are affected by this map-pool? I'm torn as to whether I want to see these played in the pro-scene again.

HSC X, IEM San Jose and Dreamhack Winter, as well as Hot6ix Cup, will all be played between BlizzCon and the end of December. However it is highly unlikely that they'll use this map pool since they have no obligation to do so, they'll probably end up using the Season 3 map pool (unless they want to make things interesting and pick other maps)

Its off-season tournaments can make players play in wherever maps they want, they are not forced to play on ladder maps, because as i said there is no WCS points to be given.

Here i'm dreaming that some tournament organizer actually used some of the latest Map Of The Month maps, that would be fun.

its going to be interesting whatever does happen though. Conflicting as it may be, but interesting. So glad that the maps that were voted in were atleast somewhat competitive at some point. Another note that concerns me is how the community is going to perceive balance and proceed to balance whine throughout the season...

How can people forget Incineration Zone over and over when talking about imba map? It makes Steppes of War look balanced!

Using Map Of The Month is an awesome idea! In the future "end of year" tournaments could be known for their differing map pools. I'd be up for watching that.

That's one of the reasons why this #Dreampool is being done, to force tournament organizers to actually talk to mapmakers instead of blindly go after the ladder maps, the other factor is that people will be less reticent to play on a map that forces them to play differently than normal if it is a map they have played before, which in turn allow us to be more daring with our ideas for maps without them be shut down instantly by the community for being considered nonstandard.

Not to mention that it gives us data to work with, which is very lacking when talking about nonstandard layouts.

@Meavis Hmmmmmm the majority? Maybe, but even if a couple persons ask for new maps i would call it a success.

Would be nice if they use some MotM maps , heck even some random maps would be better than the s3 map pool. Sure it is balanced , but fuck im so tired of overgrowth lol

It'd be nice to see the release of these maps incentivise tournament organisers who are hosting during season 4 to use their own map pool. Hey, and if they took it to the next step and started to develop their own maps for their tournaments that'd be great to see.

Using season 3 maps is unfortunately more realistic but it doesn't push the boundaries of the game. Let players test mechanics on more idiosyncratic maps and let WCS host and display tournaments for the rest of the year on more standardised maps like we have seen so far.
