Hey at least its not a dead market. I will always love SC2 over any game.

Do they actually say anything about leaving sc2? This is still irritating either way :\

RTS used to be a cornerstone of PC gaming. Now it's a "niche market". I guess its going the way of point and click adventure games.

Well no, but most Blizzard games are popular, so that's reason enough to create a team for it.
However, we still have to see how good Storm is going to be. If it becomes popular, you can bet some of the smaller moba (e.g. Smite, HoN) are going to die.

Yeah, and im still begging to get change to play heroes....

I want to play with mr.Ra so badly

the cool part of being a dead game like Starcraft is that it cannot die

gg.net were the guys that jumped on every bandwagon that came along. If the way Liquid did business for 10 years before sc2 came out gave us the site we have today, why the hell go down this road of supporting vaguely competitive games a very small handful of people have played? Why not wait for this game to come out, and if it naturally grows from the passion in its community then start following it?
I have practically never even heard about Heroes of the Storm outside of TeamLiquid. This is the only place on the internet outside of maybe a few posts on reddit and I think one article I saw on Eurogamer where even slightly positive things (or anything at all) are said about the game.
Don't get me wrong, WhiteRa and Dimaga can go play Competative Solitare for all I care, they can do whatever they want. My question was, why would TL fund a pro team for a game barley going out of alpha? There are plenty of other games that are extremely popular and don't get pro-teams in their alpha stage.

Losing White-Ra and Dimaga from Starcraft would be a big loss. I hope they find some resurgence in LoTV so I can keep watching them.

where do you get this numbers from? 78% of the stats you read on the internet are made up.
Edit:

when did you last see Ra play? or Dimaga playing at a decent level regarding his skills? They were huge but I think we lost them already

I wonder if Heroes will even take off. Like I played the Alpha and wasn't impressed. Dota 2 is just much better hands down. I want Blizzard to just make LoTV already!!!!!!!!!!! Or something new but epic, not another Moba.

rts dead genre
in all seriousness I feel like it's a shame that these 'moba's' are so much more popular than starcraft/rts which are vastly superior games imo.

My question was, why would TL fund a pro team for a game barley going out of alpha? There are plenty of other games that are extremely popular and don't get pro-teams in their alpha stage. The esports scene was also very different when Warcraft 3 was popular. It wasn't feasible for any esports organization in the early 2000s to start multiple teams. The market was just way too small. Most teams during that era was focused on one title.
Almost 15 years later, and we have a sudden growth in esports, garnering millions of audience around the world with games like LoL, Smite, HoN, Destiny, CS:GO, and countless other titles in the works. Now its feasible to invest in multiple platforms, because each of them has a decent player base. Hell even Smite probably has a decent community. The esports market is very large now, and will only grow bigger as the younger generation pay more attention to esports.
To answer your question, TL would fund a pro team for Storm because they are betting it will be a successful game; played by millions; and watched by many more. As well, many TL staff/team probably already played the Storm alpha, and probably enjoy playing it right now. That is incentive enough to start a team. Essentially they are betting that Blizzard will make another great game, and if I had a million dollars, I would take a gamble and invest in a Storm team.

To be honest HotS is much more appealing to me then Dota and Lol, because the game is faster, less technical but might still have a bit of depth (but this must stand the trial of time...).

'dead genre'? Not quite, but definitely a smaller genre compared to these mobas sprouting like dandelions in a field of grass.
I completely agree with you though, rts takes more mental acuity then a moba. However, superior is not the same as popular.
I would say Candy Crush is way more popular then SC2, but there is no comparison on which is superior.
