First and foremost I would like to say that my primary concern at this point in time is assisting our current players that wish to leave Alloy eSports find new teams. I do not want their reputations or careers damaged by this. If any teams are interested in signing any of the players currently on the Alloy eSports roster, please feel free to contact me. The only goal I have ever had is to give players a chance to achieve the highest possible level of success in eSports.
I made mistakes. That much is clear. I have not been honest with myself more than anyone else. I had a dream, and that was to help people achieve their own dream. It is clear that I do not have enough experience, regardless of my 4 years of education in business and management, to effectively and properly own and operate an organization in eSports.
By far my biggest mistake from a management standpoint was not having written contracts on everything. Not only is it bad business, but also leaves an organization unprotected and completely liable. The next biggest mistake I made was saying I could provide something before I ever had any physical or written proof that Alloy eSports would receive it(it meaning gear, funding, etc.). The next biggest mistake has to be not telling the complete truth to everyone 100% of the time. It was and still is the wrong thing for me to have done.
As a person, I would like to sincerely and deeply apologize to any players, owners, managers, casters, or fans that I may have negatively impacted by my actions as a team owner. I know it will not be enough for most of you, but I hope it means something to at least a few people out there. Although it may not have always seemed like it, my actions were always in the best interest of the players or the team, never for personal gain.
The Alloy eSports management staff and I have not yet decided what the proper course of action is, and we do not want to make any decisions without first speaking with the current members of our organization. We will keep everyone updated about our decision via r/starcraft as well as the Alloy eSports Twitter and Facebook accounts. We will be able to be more clear in definitive in the next few hours and the coming days.
I would like to thank everyone that is or has been apart of or contributed to Alloy eSports in any capacity. Your hard work, dedication, time, and commitment have been truly invaluable and nothing short of admirable and inspiring. To all of you, past and present, thank you and GLHF, I hope you are able to succeed in spite of this.
My goal and dream was to help elevate players to the highest possible levels of success. Unfortunately, I failed to do so in a proper and morally correct manner. To my fellow fans of eSports and specifically Starcraft, Please do not let my poor choice of actions and decisions deter you from following and supporting eSports. Regardless to what some people may say, Starcraft is not even close to dead. The viewership for recent tournaments continues to be very strong, and the scene in terms of teams and players is healthier than ever. It may not be as big as it was, but it is much healthier, for lack of a better word. So again, I beg of you, PLEASE do not let what I have done change your opinion or support of eSports. With all of this in mind, I would like to say that regardless of what course of action is taken regarding the future of Alloy eSports in the coming hours and days in order to hopefully preserve the team and its survival, I will be stepping down and removing myself from any and all operational tasks relating to Alloy eSports effective immediately following the release of this statement by Richard Lewis.
I wish people would at least not assume that everybody here know what they're talking about. Like:
I made mistakes. That much is clear.
Maybe skip the theatrics, and explain a bit why we should know about that... They're so many threads like that I swear, most of the time they get moved to blogs.
By accepting responsibility I assume you will be reimbursing Cube the money you promised him and paying all your players the salary that they are owed?

This is the most important question that needs answering in my opinion.
When you've spent so many months straight up lying to so many people, and doing so many shitty things, your apology won't mean too much. You or your team won't get any respect from this point on.
I don't really buy the apology anyways.

Pretty much, otherwise he managed to lie and deceive so many players with expectation of no punishment. Reimburse the poor people involved or expect to be out casted by the community, yada yada pitch forks soft spot I dislike this whole situation.
Edit: regarding the comment below me. Yeah if you have so much inheritance? Why aren't you paying them?

Based on another interview I read with you, you're referring to your high school education. lol @ even bringing that up as if it's something that would give you any experience or know-how whatsoever. and before you say you went through some specialized curriculum in HS, I would have the exact same response if you had cited an actual college degree in business. completely meaningless when it comes to real world ability.

dude says he took business classes for 4 years, regrets he didnt have written contracts with players / sponsors. He sure studied hard those 4 years...
Considering that he regularly tells people he's "retired" and apparently doesn't go to school, and is only 20, I somehow doubt he graduated 4 years of business classes already. The fact that he's probably spewing bullshit in the apology post shows how trustworths anything in this is.

After reading that drivel of an apology, I was scared he might actually attract naive sympathizers. Thank goodness I am not the only one to see it.
Those 4 years of business and you managed to mess up basic rules.

Are you telling me you made a mistake that my 12 year old nephew does not do?

So you're saying your next biggest mistake was lying to the players because you made the first mistake.
Right…
next biggest mistake has to be not telling the complete truth to everyone 100% of the time.
And here we are at your last "biggest mistake" which appears to be the third biggest, if we assume you ordered them in importance. Well this sounds like your other second "biggest mistake". Essentially you made only 2 "biggest mistake".
The only points I award you is the ending, because I agree with you this game is not dead. No thanks to you!
The only thing good to come out of this is that I now know JadePop and Cube. This horrible experience gave them a bit of exposure, so its a small silver lining.
To all the players involved, I hope the best for you.

That is putting it so mildy. From so many people we have examples of you being a pathalogical liar, to the point where I think you might even want to consider maybe seeing a psychiatrist about because I don't think it's healthy at all having this problem. It's certainly not conducive to a healthy social life nor a decent career.
One of your players of Reddit has said that you...fuck it I'll just quote him directly.
Stephen is a habitual liar. He lies about EVERYTHING. First he said he can't afford much cause he's a college student, then he claimed he was working at McDonalds, then months later out of the blue he claimed that he got tons of money somehow (inheritance or something) and the whole team and was getting a team house in quote "9 bedrooms 4.5 bathroom House 2 Blocks from Riot Studios in Santa Monica".
And he's not the only one. The Reddit and AISC group on Facebook is full of people posting examples of your tales and works of fiction. You claim to have beaten HuK in a PvP. You claim to be a former BW player under a barcode (which weren't a thing in BW by the way). You claim to be a former StarCraft 2 pro-player who has played in front of crowds and won money. You claim to have been a former pro-Halo player. You claim to be running a multi-million dollar company inherited from your grandfather. You claim to be retired. (All this is in the Reddit thread by the way)
Seriously are you that naive that you think people will believe you? I mean I work kids as young as 4-5 years old for a living and they can come up with some pretty silly far-fetched fibs from time to time. But wow, you just take the biscuit sir.

So after reading the article I can say this dude is completely disgusting. I wrote a blog about this kind of thing a really long time ago.
I am of the personal opinion, as I think TL is as well, that people such as this (think blight gaming here) should be banned from TL without a second thought. Saying sorry, or making a post just does not cut it in these situations.
Nothing in this article plays into how "sorry" you are, and honestly, I have to refrain from posting massive amounts of obscenities here. I really feel sorry for the players involved in anything you've ever done and I hope you have great misfortune in the future.
You are a terrible person and I hope you wake up thinking and reflecting on this very sentence for a long time.
I really hope the players can find new teams even if momentarily so that they can find another long stay home.

Good intentions, and being the bearer of good news is great... only insofar as it can be executed. Promise to pay for college tuition and offer lithium batteries instead?
Whatever the intention, the promise is only as good as the follow through.

I actually had an ounce of sympathy for you at first, but then I actually read the article. Your player couldn't use your bathroom? You spent gas money on an ice cream sandwich? You relied on your sweet old great grandfather's money to fund a team?
I'm not saying this out of spite or disdain, I honest to God say this with 100% objectivity and compassion.
You have a serious mental illness. You need help, immediately, professional help. Please seek it.
This must be one of the worst apology posts ever made. The only thing stated is that he's sorry and that he tried to do things for the best of the team. However he's not even making an attempt to meet any of the accusations in the article, which makes it quite obvious that he either didn't work for the best of the team or he's stupider than a walnut.
or more likely than stupidity, this is probably true:
On September 04 2014 12:18 zidaneshead wrote: You have a serious mental illness. You need help, immediately, professional help. Please seek it.
Narcissism is the diagnosis I'd give, but I'm not a psychologist and you shouldn't really do diagnoses over the internet anyway. So search professional help.
He really does have some sort of mental issue, I talked to him for a few hours after he pulled some shit related to the ASL, and I left the conversation believing that HE believes he's rich, that HE believes he knows all these people, That he believes he used to be a Brood War pro etc...
You have the telltale signs of being a pathological liar and someone who doesn't give a shit about the team, the players or their conditions. This is such a weak apology, no attempt at actually responding to the direct claims, explanations as to why you were giving a false story and the constant fabrications of your story do not get any sympathy from me.
oh first he used to be a BW pro, untill we played about two games of SC2BW After that he reconcidered and decided he used to be Top of NA GM in WoL, beating all the top players. That also did not last him long. As he played a few games against some of the team members (diamond to masters players at the time) he suddenly remembered that no, it was not SC:BW nor SC2 that he was a pro at but Halo. Easy mistake to make. And now i read that eventually it was not halo after all but the death of a relative.
So...you didn't have enough experience in this situation, and because of your lack of experience, you thought it was okay to lie to your players? I don't see how those two things correlate at all.
If you're actually sorry, pay your players out of your own pocket. Man up and fix the mistakes you made.
I was wondering why people were "raising vodkas" and "telling him to go shit in the woods" then I read that dailybot article and was flabbergasted at how he treated previous players. Had this been his first team and he made many mistakes but gave a sincere apology and explained what went on, then maybe he would've gotten some sympathy and bid farewell by the community but for this to be his second team and constantly lying to players, not paying the money etc... it's just ridiculous.
I feel bad for the players As for you Aldaris, I hope you fix yourself up and stop with all these shenanigans. The whole BW pro into SCII pro into Halo pro or the other lies, stupid idea to lie since you always get caught in the end. If you truly wanted the best for the players then you should've been upfront, honest and transparent about everything. That whole bathroom story is something ...
This post is of absolutely 0 value. Tbh it looks like some algorithm used for writing bullshit prompts, full of cliche phrases and no information whatsoever. Good luck in politics Aldaris, seems like a place for an useless scum like you
As someone who was a part of his attempt to start a mapmaking team, I can believe all the accusations against this guy. He had some pretty grandiose plans that he plugged at the beginning (establishing contacts with major esports organizations, etc), then he got a couple maps added to a minor tournament or two then proceeded to basically disappear. Obviously there was no actual cost to any of the mapmakers, but I can only imagine how others who invested a lot more could have gotten massively screwed.
Not to play devil's advocate, but why would you expect to be flown around the US to play in tournaments without even having a written contract? It seems like the players that fell for this were really gullible too...
Yeah Esport players seem to not be the most educated or smartest people when it comes to joining these teams. Seems like this Issue happens almost every other month.
The thing that sticks out to me the most is this: how can you have 4 years of education in business/management and not have the common sense to use written contracts? That's gotta be something they teach in the 101 classes, right?
It's really unfortunate to hear all this happened (assuming the article got the story reasonably right), but as an AlloyE player I will support that Aldaris was the best and most dedicated clan/team manager I've had for any game I've played competitively.
When I joined the team, AlloyE had big ambition that got my skeptical, but I didn't get bothered by it. I would be there to improve and get as good as I can, even if I didn't meet the expectations. He would push us to keep practicing and improving. He would even set up quick meeting times just to check on each players' progress and to ask if they had any specific things they would like to practice, ask them what times they are free, and then do all the coordinating and find another player within the team to practice for them. He would also find and link me like 5-10 tournaments and cups (prize or not), which is really a huge time saver and really great practice because he'd find those that would have GM or pro players, which gave me many chances to practice against what you could call "real pro" players. I don't know about you guys but finding that many tournaments and cups myself would take hours total weekly by scavenging many websites daily to find new tournaments as they pop up.
Aldaris has been an amazing manager for me and actually played a significant part in allowing me to win 2nd place and $160 at a tournament as there were some big problems in my play that I needed to clear up and allowed me to play very comfortably.
Although I find the actions documented in the article to be unacceptable, I will say that he is not lying when he really wished the best for his players and was dedicated to helping us improve. He even offered me to live in the team house for free, as well as cover my fees to go to tournaments.
(Also I will say that for those unfortunate enough to have been misled by his high ambition and promises, I question those who decided to believe in him without a proper contract. Of course, he is also to blame for giving so many promises).
The guy is a clear-cut pathological liar and resident scumbag. Not much else to say. Any good he thought he was doing in his fantasy land of a reality where he was apparently a rich ex multi-game pro with a degree (all lies of course) is massively... we are talking the size of the universe here..... overshadowed by his actions. Die in a fire?

Well on the whole this guy seems smart but poorly adapted, having almost manic future visions but no real way to back them (whether he realizes that or not), and resorts to lying to prevent having to admit he's wrong. Even now in his apology post, he doesn't seem very keen on actually writing down his misdeeds, maybe preferring to ignore they ever actually happened.
But on the flip-side, he might now realize he needs to get help, players got a bit of exposure, and the replies to this thread have been very entertaining indeed..

Indeed. Someone on the AISC group compared it to the BP parody apology, which I think is very accurate actually.
He would also find and link me like 5-10 tournaments and cups (prize or not), which is really a huge time saver and really great practice because he'd find those that would have GM or pro players, which gave me many chances to practice against what you could call "real pro" players.
Dude, in late 2013 other players were doing this for him, including me, because he wasn't doing shit. He just linked it to other people to make sure they'd sign up. We were constantly begging him to spend more time into searching for these tournaments as we were doing it instead of him while he was doing absolutely nothing.

Ah now I remember where I recognize the team from. Below is a brief exchange of comments from the reddit thread where the announcements of Ruff and Zombiegrup were presented:
Aldaris
We are a very serious team and organization.
HiderDK
What's your thoughts about Ruff blaming Minigun for being kicked out of his former team?
[–]Incredible MiracleKSG_Aldaris[S] 1 point 2 måneder siden
He doesn't.
[–]HiderDK
Below is quite from him where he is talking to Minigun/Root:
"YOU took away a team that I thought was wonderful with some of the nicest people I have ever met in e-sports" Source: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/starcraft-2/459250-ruff-removed-from-ivd-gaming?page=28#541 Notice, the emphasize on "YOU". Seems like you have just hired a psychopath here. Aren't there any GM players with better manners of a similar skill level you could have hired? Are you really this deseperate for attention?
[–]Incredible MiracleKSG_Aldaris[S]
You have not spoken with him so you cannot know how he feels. I have.
HiderDK
Well we knew what he wrote on TL, so assuming he said something else to you: He must either be lying to you or to TL.
Aldaris
Yes because those are the only 2 possibilities.....
HiderDK
Indeed, and your a very serious organization with your extremely elaborate explanations. I feel bad for Zombiegrup for this.
After that conversation it became pretty clear to me that the manager either was willing to circumvent the truth or was extremely unintelligent. I guess, it's probably a combination. Given what has happened since with the team, I guess Ruff actually fitted in there nicely.
This is the worst apology i have ever seen and is probably just a result of this guy being a pathological liar and an attention whore. I don't understand how people are duped by such obvious fraudsters though...
I think what annoyed me most was what he said in our (Irish) Facebook group about Ruff after his departure. Personal flaws aside the guy had given the organisation its only real exposure at an offline event, an NA player who hadn't prospered elsewhere, pretty much the exact kind of player the organisation's Liqui page claimed they wanted to develop.
He pretty much made fun of the guy for having the temerity to ask for his due pay or whatever and also trashed his skill levels.
It just appears he alters his message for audience and didn't seem to realise that by calling his own players bad it reflects badly on his big ESports team. Weird dude
RuFF has agreed to a zero tolerance policy and has signed a contract stating as much.
Hmm, thought no contracts were signed? Below is a 24days old comment from Reddit.
Hey guys RuFF here, I am currently not on Alloy E-sports and left about 4 or 5 days ago. KiloKilo is a really nice guy and has sponsored me back in 2013 for Anaheim Pass when on OGaming.
I personally felt a bit deceived while on the team, and everything at Red Bull Atlanta did not hold high expectations. Except for the event itself obviously, better than MLG! (Keeping this nice)
I feel bad because of a dear friend of mine who went through a lot on the team, and didn't get what he deserved. Which was motivation for me to leave because I hold high morals in that kind of area. He will probably make a post in due time if things continue to go poorly.
The only money I got on the team was the reimbursement for Redbull Atlanta. Didn't get a Salary even though I was on the team for over 2 months. Maybe I was a good pick up because I could be tossed around due to the reputable hit I took back in June; that is just speculation though.
Aldaris a couple of days later:
ZG left due to neck pain and lack of free time preventing her from playing which made her feel she was not contributing to the team. RuFF left to pursue other opportunities.
If ZG has neck pain, how can she still cast then but not play?
Since I can't help my self, but continue to understand whether he is just insanely dumb or a terrible person or both? I found a response he made to Destiny. First of Destiny explains what it means to be a cheeser.
Ruff bypasses the need for any competence at the game by doing insanely all-innish/gimmicky early pressure builds. If his early builds do damage, he wins, if they don't, he loses, miserably, because he has no ability to play a mid/late game on even ground with his opponent.
Aldaris then responds:
Interesting insight. I am his team owner and this is the first rational explanation I have received when asking similar questions other than he is bad or he sucks. That is the typical response. Thank you Steven
Aldaris apparently doens't even get the implications for playing cheesy.. The reason everyone says he is terrible is because he is cheesy and everyone above silver league knows what that implies.... except for Aldaris. If I was involved in his team and reading some of his reddit comments, I would definitely question whether I was at the right place. Relying on a manager that seems this dumb cannot be a good thing

Please don't blame the victims. "Obvious" is a subjective term. What is obvious to you might not be so obvious to others.
I do agree with you to a small degree, but in situations like this where someone like Aldaris preys on the naivety and hope of burgeoning progamers, its not becoming of the industry when we blame the victims.

That comment I wrote on reddit in this quote was directed about Cube getting screwed over which is why I left, I also did not like being deceived. To many lies from Aldaris, I could see through all of it the first day we met in Atlanta. I felt bad for cube constantly buying people stuff. I told Aldaris just to cover food since I was going to the event pretty much without sponsorship, the second I saw cube paying for things I told him not to worry about it and started buying my own things. It was sickening sitting there at gas stations when we both refused and he was constantly trying to get out of paying. I even threatened to go to a hotel and have my GF pick me up since I don't live far from Atlanta. Shit just got pretty bad. I spoke to a few pro players about it, I won't bring up names but they know the situation too and people could see I was pretty upset while I was there. Cube is an awesome fun guy to be around. He definitely needs the support after what happened to him.
He never spent a penny on anything, even asked to mooch food that we bought. It was pretty pathetic. I don't know anyone who can't spare a fucking dollar to get himself something.

Except he insists that
my actions were always in the best interest of the players or the team
Right. Well, obviously good riddance I guess. Thanks for the apology, but this is also a first impression of you lol.
EDIT: Apparently some SC2 players were screwed (at least temporarily) by this guy. I wish the best of luck to those players, and hope they get what was promised to them!

Considering what's going on lately, I think that news is noteworthy.
When will players learn to stop being so naive?... I've seen so many of these kinds of posts that it's just getting to be ridiculous by now. If someone approaches you making promises of paying you a salary and flying you to events, do some research as to who the hell they actually are. This guy apparently already made false promises to another team, Kill Steal Gaming, and owes them money. Another news flash, when you ask someone who their sponsors are and they reply with "wealthy benefactors," run the fuck away. And also make sure that you sign a contract! You can't expect to do business with just a handshake and a "heartfelt" promise. I mean come on guys... use your brains T_T
I sympathize for the players who were taken advantage of, but seriously just be smart about it and this will stop happening.

I hear there's an African prince who's willing to pay pro-gamers millions of dollars if you'll only give him your social security number and credit card number.
Benefits of joining his team include: Team house Team jerseys Additional 6 inches in length Additional 4 inches in girth

most people start playing starcraft as a childhood hobby and never dream of getting into it as a business or career and are also very young, not to mention that esports is a glamorous dream job for most young guys. everyone has naive moments and makes bad decisions, but when people run scams and take advantage of each other's trust the focus should not be on victim blaming but on shaming people who can't make an honest dollar and want to use other people's time and talent for their profit

The reason is simple, most people have no clue this guy even exists. And most up-coming / fringe (for lack of a better world) players just don't have a ton of options when it comes to who they play for.

Even so, a contract is worth nothing if you cannot enforce its execution. It's futile to sue someone over 200 bucks.

I can't help but address this specifically, and I might as well add to the entire discussion too, but uh, I do legit have neck pain. I've gone to numerous doctors over the course of two years and it's been this whole ordeal. In the group Skype chat we had a conversation about physical problems once, but I didn't mention to Aldaris that neck pain was a reason I left. He just guessed that was the 'real reason' I guess? I told him I wasn't practicing a lot (due to casting so much, I can usually only do one or the other per day, play or cast) and didn't feel I contributed anything.
The real, main reason I left was actually not getting what little I asked for, which was practice with teammates. This whole 'ZG picked up by Alloy' thing was so not what I expected when Sam asked me casually 'you wanna be on a team'. I just expected practice sessions and practice partners. Instead of that, I got a dramatic thread with Ruff, a 'statement' that I never made, and a bunch of people saying how bad the move was. I just wanted to practice, not to officially align myself with a small team.
Since I expected so little from the team I really have nothing to add, only that from what little I experienced I had, it was obvious Aldaris had little in the way of marketing skills.

Somehow I believe Richard Lewis' reporting much more than Aldaris' chronic lies.
On the other hand, recruiting ex-Alloy players seems incredibly stupid too (which actually makes me more inclined to believe this is Aldaris trying to warp reality again).
