They also announced a lineup of six international casters :
StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm: Sean “Day9″ Plott, Kevin “RotterdaM” van der Kooi, Yoan “ToD” Merlo, Paulo “CatZ” Vizcarra, Nathan “Nathanias” Fabrikant and Alex “Axeltoss” Rodriguez.
NESTEEEAAAAAA!!!!!! Also Bomber, Hyun, DRG, Ragnarok, Revival, Seed, Keen, Jaedong and Harstem in the open, it will be hard for anyone local to get in there.
Remember all the epic open and lower bracket run from TheSTC ? I'll miss those Good lineup overall. No really fond of the caster though, Only Rotti & Nathanias are great for me.
We got some old school MLG players and some new favorites, a good mix though I'd like to see more KeSPA representation. Either way going to be a great tournament.

Ahh this'll be good, I love MLG events (though they don't have that same family feel they did in the heydey in the late 00s) but it should be awesome, a good lineup with a strong chance for some foreigners getting deep into it, and a good caster lineup, good to see Day9 out there again. Him and Wheat in the early SC2 MLGs were awesome.
Axeltoss, and CatZ are a bit out of left field, more interested in the former than the latter.

Well Leenock told me he's going. He also said that both Choya and MKP is going. Then Choya wrote on his facebook that MLG will be his last tournament before retireing to go the army. So I assume Leenock is telling the truth.
100% Choya 99% Leenock and then MKP is based on Leenock's word but I trust him so
I'll probably end up sounding like a cunt, but why is Axeltoss there? Unless it's for some sort of host role, I don't see this being good for the quality of the tournament. He is completely out of the loop. In 2012 or early 2013 I would maybe have had a different opinion.
This will be pretty boring. Barely any Europeans who can beat Koreans and a lot of 2nd tier Koreans who are still more than enough to rape the NA players.
MLG failed imitating the GSL 2 years ago and will now fail again trying to immitate WCS America.

How so?
I recall most MLGs being good post-Columbus 2011 (one of the best weekend events ever). I'd of firmly put MLG ahead of DH and definitely IEM purely because they managed to pull a healthy amount of Koreans. Though this is no longer the case these days..

Hm, odd correlation to attempt there.
We have had 6 events so far this year, just one 1 for sc2. Business models change, but last week we were at Xgames, this week at E3, and next week Anaheim. We are plenty busy with events, and doing really well

I really enjoyed his casting at Lone Star Clash, even though he's out of the loop with meta he's play by play anyway. And he'll have been working on getting up to speed anyway, it's likely MLG had him booked for a while before this announcement.
That, and it's like a loyalty thing, since he casted for them when they ran WCS and before.
Found it on the clarity gaming post: @cCav All in all we really just felt it was the right time to put the team down. We will still be sending Sarovati and Reborn to MLG and fulfilling our contractual obligations to them. They'll have all travel and lodging paid for, and also receive a daily stipend to eat.

What?
MLG typically did very well with the SC2 events and I personally loved the Arenas as well. What hurt them was Blizzard pushing WCS which didn't work as a business model for MLG and failed for the NASL guys too and is now on its third company.
Its a tournament with good players on a weekend. Its definitely not the most interesting field, but a lot of that has to do with a lack of quality players to invite rather than a lack on the tournaments part. Its not like there are a ton of non Koreans that actually are as good as the Koreans now days. The days of Idra, Huk, Naniwa, or Stephano are gone, but Snute and Scarlett are doing alright.

Let's go Scarlet!!! So excited for this tournament, missed the final day of last year's Anaheim so I'm glad I can see everything (hopefully) and I think this tournament will be very sick.
I was so excited that MLG was coming back, now I'm not even going to bother making sure im free those days now that I know ToD is casting, can't stand how bias he is, he's a terrible caster
Where the hell is Apollo, Tasteless, Artosis, InControl?
As you can see, he still regularly uploads videos and is doing the Day9 not-so-daily, analysing SC2 play, but he's been dedicating a lot more time to playing through other games. He still keeps up to date with SC2 and watches major tournaments and stuff.
On June 12 2014 13:30 Holdenintherye wrote: Hmmm so MLG was the only one willing to pony enough money for day9 to cast I'm guessing?
Maybe he just doesn't wanna make long flights anymore for tournaments. He hasn't cast an event outside North America since September. Not like there aren't excellent casters around in Europe.

Err... listen I'm no fan of MLG as a company, in fact I think they are really shady.
But their events are the best, without a doubt. Nothing will ever top Idra's run for me at MLG Orlando... Boxer, HongUn and Bomber straight in a row... And there will be upsets, there always is...
Wow this is going to be great!! Totally Stellar line up on players and casters. The open bracket is stacked, all the favorite players returning to MLG and some new faces as well.

So HSC had barely any Europeans. I'm learning something new every day.
Regarding the actual korean LU's I'd give the edge to MLG, but not by much. HSC had a better terran LU, MLG has a better Zerg LU, protoss are comparable. They are definitly in the same league.
Very solid casting team, but does anybody else find the player list a little...underwhelming?
I realise this likely isn't MLG's fault, but this is probably one of the least stacked MLG's we've had since 2011 when the Korean's started coming to MLG. It's not a shit line-up, but it's not a particularly high-quality one either.
Not that I won't watch it (because a lot of my favourite players are there), I'm just a little disappointed.

Well it was supposed to be NA only at the start, so I think we can be very happy with this. Maybe Kespa sends 2 players too. I'm just happy about the open bracket and the original MLG feeling.

This tournament has more Koreans confirmed in it already than the next Dreamhack does with a finalized roster. And that's with only 2 of the Koreans in this living in NA, while more Koreans at DH Summer live in Europe than don't. This, of course, doesn't even take into account the foreign onslaught from people like State, Major, Scarlett, TLO, Suppy, HuK, Puck, and the frightening specter of an in-form Illusion. This tournament is as stacked as any international live tournament can hope to be.

lol.
Top tier Koreans attending MLG: Polt used to be here, haven't seen enough of him to say he is no longer one of the best in the world, so let's say he is. Code Sish level Koreans attending MLG: Jaedong, Hyun, DRG So there's 4 really good players (if Polt is as good as he used to be, which would not surprise me) and that's basically it. Lots of Koreans != stacked. Lots of Code S Ro16 or better recent regulars counts as stacked.
As I said, I don't blame MLG, it's just disappointing that the likes of Taeja, Parting, Soulkey, Maru, Zest, Rain aren't attending.

That is hardly what I would call a foreign onslaught, with most of the european top players missing (Vortix, Snute, Welmu, Dayshi, etc.) . Maybe Scarlett, MajOr, HuK or Harstem can knock out a few people, but the foreign line-up here is not comparable to the one at HSC/WCS EU for example.

The tournament line-up isn't underwheliming, its just not stacked with the "cream of the crop". Obviously the RO8 is still going on for GSL so you can't expect those guys to travel when $66,000 is within their grasp. And wasn't Kespa going to send some top proleague performers to foreign events? Anyway, there are a ton of fan favorites and the potential for a break out from someone who hasn't had consistent results in awhile is fairly good.
Awesome lineup. The only thing I am not impressed with is Axeltoss as a caster. I thought his casting at Lone Star was atrocious. Hopefully he has improved since.
First of all, many people complain NA doesnt get much spotlight or opportunities. Its safe to say that at Anaheim we will have most of NA potential and high caliber players, and who knows, we may get surprises from many of those semi-known players. Good surprises. Its a great opportunity for them to show their skills and talent, and for the fans to get to know them. THIS IS GREAT.
Now, there are great foreigner players attending, and not just counting the obvious ones. Maybe some of them havent won major tournaments or gone head to head against Code S players, but still, it would be very wrong to not count them, and worst, not play seriously against them as KR players. Who? All the qualified players to begin with: hendralisk, Huk, Illusion, Major, Miniraser, Petraeus, Puck, Scarlett & TLO. GOOD STUFF. This is a great initial line up for foreign players. As for the open bracket ones? Caliber, Catz, Desrow, Harmstem, Iaguz, qxc, State, Suppy, Vibe & Xenocider. This guys got it. Now they have to grab this chance and prove to all of us. Most of us. (Sorry Incontrol, Nony & Thorzain! I love you guys, and I really wish you prove me wrong).
We've got Korean power. Our own NA-KR power house duo, Polt & Violet. They've got it. Big time. Trap qualified in a quite stacked bracket, that should speak for itself. Rest of top Koreans? Well, look at this lineup: Alicia, Bomber, Dongraegu, HerO, Hyun, Jaedong, Keen, Nestea, Revival, Ragnarok, Seed & Stardust. Granted, they've not all be at their prime time. Most of them. Some are currently on slumps (HerO for sure, and he is the love of my protoss heart, DRG, arguably? JD is for everybody everytime he doesnt WINS, etc), and some of them of VERY LONG ONES (Nestea, the fact that you are still competing and we get to see you more often than MVP earns my deepest respect). But Koreans exist, and Koreans are going to attend Anaheim. Let the blood bath of KR vs the World begin. EPIC. EDIT: Life? Well, there you go. Again, kind of a slump? MAYBE. Players attending scared of facing Life? ALWAYS.
Caster lineup is AWESOME. Day 9 I've missed for Oh-SO-LONG! Rotty & Tod are a blast together. Nathanias has proven himself time to time. And axeltoss was the face for MLG for a long time (only compared with Chriss Pucket, shoutout to you! Miss the halo days...) and he did a remarkable job.
And lastly, its Anaheim. Multiple time host of the best events around the world EVER. The venue wont let us down. The crowd wont let us down. The players & casters wont let us down. As for the viewers, counting myself, we should do our very best to enjoy this and tell MLG in our own far-away way that we want MORE.

I really don't understand why people are still at war over this. '' This Caster is obviously WAY better than that one ! '' , '' This line-up is underwhelming because TOP of the TOP of the TOP Koreans aren't ALL participating ! ''. Why can't we just be happy that MLG is hosting the event and that we will have the opportunity to watch SCII matches from great players. I mean they put a lot of work into it and I'm sure the tournament will be awesome. Besides, some of my favorite matches I've seen were from MLG tournaments and didn't feature the TOP TOP TOP players at that moment.
Just a quick question: Will MLG provide a replay pack of the event ? I went on the website but couldn't find the answer. Perhaps I looked at the wrong place.

Top 2 from the two pools will play in winner's semis, the other 6 from each pool will be placed in the loser's bracket. Those six will be joined by 4 more players from the open bracket (those that made it through loser's)
