America needs a stable tournament, something like what WCS America is for Koreans. I think it's pretty hard even for popular players like CatZ or qxc to keep up in exposure with more successful players when they don't get to play certain bigger tournaments regularlily.

I have nothing against american players. But it's obvious they can't be compared to even mediocre koreans (let alone scarlett and state). Btw i guess they have this kind of tourneys (shoutcraft and something else, correct me if i'm wrong), where there are no koreans. But the thing is WCS was brought to us by blizzard (in the first place) as a system which allows local talent to shine, help locals improve etc. It fulfilled its role to some extent but overall it's not there. Noone to be blamed. Rly. Koreans are just better and I do believe that the purpose of the WCS Global Finals is doubted because of that. You all blame naniwa for being such an asshole. Yes he is. But he saved Blizzard's idea behind WCS last year. He is the savior. Like it or not. Yes he lost in ro16, but HE made me get up at 5 a.m. to whatch his games vs soulkey. AND i didnt regret that at all. What whould blizzcon look like with 16 koreans? Why do u need those guys to move to NA for some kind of Global event if they are fine with SPL and Code S? What do they need to prove there? That they are the absolute best? That just sounds wrong.
Ye, i know there are ppl out there who just like whatching their local heroes play. I do too always cheer for MY guys. But, in the first place, i'd like to watch top tier games. As a spectator. And i just find this WCS AM thing a bit... artificial. It literally became an alternative code A with 50% spots reserved for americans. This is the reason why i want JD to move to Korea and join a Kespa team. He wastes his talent there.

Actually I have to say something obvious: "good luck sOs" - it wasn't tweeted to sOs twitter or facebook though he could send it to sOs. Yes, he has a wrist problem but if his retirement would not have a connection with sOs disgusting play than his retirement statement wouln't be in the same post moreover in the same sentence.

Oh get over it and stop looking for something that isn't there. Taeja is a class act and wished sOs luck because he is a good guy.

No more threads about twitter posts where players say they are going to retire. Only when they have retired.

Also, Taeja a bit of a drama queen.

People see what they want to see they say.

Really hope he'l continue. A legend!

Taeja is a class act and a drama queen. He never goes full Idra, just gets all emo. But he never calls out his opponent or bitches that he lose do to imbalance.

Not if we don't actually agree on it.

If he is retiring because of balance, that is pretty laughable considering that of the 13 WCS finals last year (9 regional finals, 3 season finals, 1 global finals):

7 = Terran wins (Mvp, Innovation, Polt (x2), Maru, Bomber, MMA)
5 = Protoss wins (HerO, duckdeok, Dear (x2), sOs)
1 = Zerg win (Soulkey, and barely)

Granted, since about January, Protoss players have won a few foreign tournaments (IEMs in particular), and are looking strong in the GSL, but Terran continue to perform strongly in Proleague. If any race is underpowered recently, Zerg has been, but I do not hear Soulkey, Jaedong, Life, or Leenock rumoring they will retire "soon."

Everything is temporary, including Starcraft careers. I hope taeja finds that "normal" life he is looking for.

I'm totally fine if Taeja with retiring. No problem, it is not the end of the world for me. If the guy wants to move on, get an education and so on, then by all means he should!

Still young guy, should wait more time before military if healthy.
If not, go now before more study if you 20+ (korean age).

Does anyone have any updates on this? He seems to be playing in ATC and stuff. So did he officially decide not to retire? or is he just playing casually?

Well it could be that WCS America is his last attempt to win something. But yea, some clarifications would be warmly welcomed.

Apparently it was one of these Stephano style retirements announced years in advance.

Trust me guys. When/if Taeja actually retires, you can expect an official article from Team Liquid announcing it.

Then again if he loses a few more matches in ATC we might see more of these tweets.

Just a quick update. TaeJa's wrists were in really bad shape after IEM and he felt he needed to seriously reconsider being a progamer. It was definitely a more serious remark than the times before it. After a (much needed) break his wrists and mind have started to feel better and he has decided he to continue to play SC2. I can't predict how his wrists will keep up, but as long as he feels comfortable we will support him in that decision. In communciation with TaeJa we have decided to lower the intensity of his schedule so that in between tournaments he can focus on recovering in Korea.
