I want a lot more Taeja, but at the expense of his health?! What is this Sophie's choice bullshit! Obviously Taeja needs to find a way to not have hurt wrists anymore.

It was definitely a more serious remark than the times before it. After a (much needed) break his wrists and mind have started to feel better and he has decided he to continue to play SC2. I can't predict how his wrists will keep up, but as long as he feels comfortable we will support him in that decision. In communciation with TaeJa we have decided to lower the intensity of his schedule so that in between tournaments he can focus on recovering in Korea. As someone who has had wrist pain, I learned it is so important to exercise the arms regularly. It's much easier to prevent the problem from occurring from good habits then to "fix" the pain afterwards. The topic of wrist health is so rarely talked about. I wonder what steps he is going to take to keep his wrists pain free.

Keeping expectations of how long he will stick around to a realistic level is a good idea here. Well, TLO's wrists have seemed to have recovered so I think that as long as Taeja exercises regularly and doesn't strain himself then I think he could be okay to continue.

I am sorry, but that's just not how the human body works. Taeja is on a clock, and likely not a very long one. Yes that is true till some extend, but you can really extend your clock with good equipment. I really look foward to see TaeJae play again. He is one of my favorite Terrans to watch and I really hope he can show us a lot more of great plays!

Hopefully he sees an actual doctor and does exercises etc. I couldn't agree more with your post, regular exercise, even if you don't have much pain at all, is the best way to keep your wrists healthy. Personally, I keep slacking when it doesn't hurt at all and I do it a lot when it starts to hurt T.T I can only recommend to anyone who has ever felt anything even close to pain in their wrists to do exercises on a daily basis.

TLO is playing the best sc2 of his life. I wasn't aware he still had wrist issues? What does sc2 do to the wrists specifically that causes unrepairable damage? There are parallels to be drawn from professional pianists. They use many of the same techniques to prevent and solve injuries. I just did a quick Google search. Most injuries can be fixed via rehab, but if you continue practicing through extreme pain, that's the worst thing you can do. I can't find any article citing age or wrist issues for retirement in music.

When it comes to taking care of his health it's mainly TaeJa and his family who figure out what is best and we just help out where we can. He's currently getting treatment on a daily basis for it which he is supposed to keep up with when he's in Korea.

Focus on quality practice instead of quantity and maybe find alternative ways to practice SC2 other than pure playing which is what I imagine he does. This injury keeps happening and returning mostly because of the amount he is playing. And depending on which wrist it is you can only parallel to pianists so much. Also in comparison to pianists, I don't think they practice as long as SC2 players do especially given how we know Koreans practice.

And you can't really maintain your skills in a game like SC2, at the level Taeja is playing, without playing at least a few hours per day. He could keep reducing his practice schedule until it feels adequate, but if that leaves him uncompetitive due to insufficient practice, what's the point? As for what causes the injuries, repeated, jerky, small movements will produce joint problems, no matter in what context. Bio stutter step micro is probably one of the best ways to murder a wrist I can think of. The human wrist really is not very well suited for high intensity computer usage for hours on end every day.
