Liquid`Snute became the first ever SeatStory Cup champion, taking a 4-2 victory over Roccat.HyuN (grand finals VOD). Snute had already defeated HyuN 2-1 in the earlier Ro16 group stages of the tournament, using his superior play in the later game to overcome HyuN's better play in the early game. The same pattern played out in the finals, with Snute outmuscling HyuN in the mass-roach wars to win the $8,000 grand prize.
Having already defeated countryman Targa in the finals of bLAN Winter and Nemean in February, SSC made it a trio of live tournaments won for Snute on the back of his strong ZvZ. Snute's championship run through SSC saw his ZvZ win-rate improve to a stellar 73% on the year. The victory also gave Snute his second championship won in the TakeTV house in Krefeld after his HomeStory Cup 6 victory in 2012.
Besides Snute, other non-Korean players had success over the Korean players at SSC. New Liquid recruit Bunny and Fnatic Harstem took part in creating a huge upset on day one, eliminating #1 all-time prize money winner MC from the tournament. In the 3rd/4th place match, Liquid's TLO defeated mYi.jjakji 3-2.
The results served as an intriguing preview of the upcoming WCS Europe Ro16, where several of the SSC participants will be playing. Koreans like jjakji and MC were pegged by many as favorites to win the tournament, but the SSC results suggest that the Europeans might make their strongest showing in four seasons of WCS Europe.
Of the many games played in the tournament, game one between HyuN and jjakji in the semi-finals deserves special mention. Clocking in at over 1 hour and 20 minutes of in-game time, the two players proved that a mech vs. swarm host style game need not be a snoozefest. » Watch the game
SeatStory Cup was produced by TakeTV, the studio of HomeStory Cup fame, as a similar but separate event to its flagship tournament. Hosting both a HearthStone and StarCraft 2 tournament, the StarCraft 2 invites for SSC were scaled down to 16 players from the standard 32 at HSC. StrifeCro, former StarCraft 2 progamer for Evil Geniuses, won the HearthStone event.

Only invites. HSC exists, SSC is a "new" one for Take. No replacement.
|
not considered a premier tournament probably because it was invitation 16 players and not 32 with qualifiers

gotta ask the liquipedia ppl to be sure but:
-only 16 players, ALL invited
-lowest total prize pool of any Liquipedia-Premier event since.... 2011 ($15,000)

the viewer experience was WAY more fun like that for me.
but this is not what this thread is about: Congrats Snute. 2nd win out of 3 finals in Krefeld? pretty crazy!

Looks like Snute has been practicing like a mad man. He looked nearly invincible as he rolled over Hyun.

Grats Snute!
I agree that WCS might really become interesting this time. Jjakji seemingly is not as dominant offline and imo the MSC nerf, buffed widow mines and hydras made an Impact on the current balance. Top foreigners could really cause an upset.
|
bittersweet for me considering the player pool but good job i guess snute. To the Avatar I don't consider events like this a Premier Tournament and there's a lot more to it than that lol.

To me that only explains half of it man.

What? Since when did we start calling HSCs majors? I have a feeling there will never be a consensus on such things.
|
HSC/SSC was never a major tournament and it shouldnt be. those tournaments are primarily about the players, about having fun, about the players casting other players and only secondly about competition. major tournaments like IEM, GSL etc are primarily about competition and secondly about everything else.
|
Now Snute only needs to win WCS EU.

Take's apartment is Liquid's backyard.

Strong performance by Snute, congrats.

There is a pattern for Snute:
At Homestorycup he defeated Symbole in Gruopstage and in the finals, same this time with Hyun.

Pretty damn good results, considering the usual luck with the brackets. Especially sweet since both the first and the third place were won against the two koreans who seemed quite unstoppable. Gj guys!

I know it's too soon to call, but if Snute keeps this up we might have another contender for the title of "best foreigner". Seems we'll have more names in that pot than during 2013, at least.

I have to diagree with you here. Takes Events certainly have a different vibe, but those players that have a shot for the podium will care a lot more about competition than about drinking games and barbecue.

I dont need to tell the players, they say so themselves throughout the cup and in interviews. Also, when they get asked what they like most about their job they always say that the travelling part is a lot of fun despite the jet lag, so yeah, youre wrong on that one too. Of course Snute gets pissed when he messes up a game but that doesnt have anything to do with what type of tournament it is. Making mistakes while doing something youre usually good at always gets to you, no matter if its just a ladder game or WCS Global Finals. Doesnt even have to do anything with gaming I believe.
Anyway, HSC/SSC is a lot of fun to watch and the whole atmosphere is different compared to an MLG or IEM event. The atmosphere is different because, again, the main focus is not on the competition but everything around it.

Dammit, I thought this was only HearthStone. Kinda confusing title. Haven't seen a single match. Will have to check the VODs.

I didn't mean to say traveling wasn't fun, just that fun wasn't their primary objective. I have no doubt HSC is an incredible tournament to participate in because of the casual atmosphere. However, at the same time, with fewer and fewer tournaments and opportunities for pro gamers in general to make money it would be foolish to take any opportunity lightly. You can still take your games seriously, play competitively, and enjoy yourself at the end of the day.

With only three Koreans, the SSC provided a real opportunity for foreigners like Dayshi, TLO, Snute, Bunny etc. to shine and to make some decent money. Considering that the DHs, IEMs are crowded by Kespa superstars nowadays, it would be ridiculous for the abovementioned Players to go to Krefeld for hanging around and "having fun " in the first place.

Congrats Snute, well deserved, sick zvz .

Snute showed really good ZvZ indeed! Seems hard practice and those months at the CJ house are paying out! Gratz! =)

Snutes ZvZ looked fantastic, he always had the right answer especially in the Semis. He outplayed TLO, besides they train together! Gratz!

If Nani doesn`t make a big splash soon, Snute might be crowned as the new King of the North^^

you're also the only one to win an individual competition there, arguably more important than the team ones.

As far as I'm concerned this is still enough for us to have already avoided the 0 minutes to midnight scenario we had last year

This tournament was amazing, and the hearthstone and WC3 mix-ins were super fun too. Nice play on Snute's part. I really enjoyed the post game banter between Snute and TLO.

I also absolutely loved this tournament. The atmosphere, the players, the games were all very enjoyable and I just loved pretty much everything about this tournament. Is there any way I can support take ? (I'm on a student budget D: so can't donate)

Having hearthcrap in there kind of ruined it for me. Glad to see TL players do well though.

nah it was fine. I mean I am not really all that interested in HS, but trying kind of something new like including more games and having the casters/game switch mid stream fit right into the whole laid back atmosphere they were going for.

So.. Does this end the Foreigner drought? Seems silly if so - only MC and Jjakji to beat.
|
Got to start somewhere :p. Though Take usually plans the invites so a foreigner can take it.

Not really. SSC was a major tournament which often have foreign winners. Check the premier section in that link and you'll see what the drought is all about.

i loved the grubby vs stephano match.
|
I loved Snutes zvz engagements in the finals, he was always great with roaches and even pushed the global zvz meta when he won HSC in 2012.
Too bad Snute is so inconsistent, though, he has played some horrible games when he is not in shape... maybe a mental problem as well??
