Liquid`Snute became the first ever SeatStory Cup champion, taking a 4-2 victory over Roccat.HyuN (grand finals VOD). Snute had already defeated HyuN 2-1 in the earlier Ro16 group stages of the tournament, using his superior play in the later game to overcome HyuN's better play in the early game. The same pattern played out in the finals, with Snute outmuscling HyuN in the mass-roach wars to win the $8,000 grand prize.
Having already defeated countryman Targa in the finals of bLAN Winter and Nemean in February, SSC made it a trio of live tournaments won for Snute on the back of his strong ZvZ. Snute's championship run through SSC saw his ZvZ win-rate improve to a stellar 73% on the year. The victory also gave Snute his second championship won in the TakeTV house in Krefeld after his HomeStory Cup 6 victory in 2012.
Besides Snute, other non-Korean players had success over the Korean players at SSC. New Liquid recruit Bunny and Fnatic Harstem took part in creating a huge upset on day one, eliminating #1 all-time prize money winner MC from the tournament. In the 3rd/4th place match, Liquid's TLO defeated mYi.jjakji 3-2.
The results served as an intriguing preview of the upcoming WCS Europe Ro16, where several of the SSC participants will be playing. Koreans like jjakji and MC were pegged by many as favorites to win the tournament, but the SSC results suggest that the Europeans might make their strongest showing in four seasons of WCS Europe.
Of the many games played in the tournament, game one between HyuN and jjakji in the semi-finals deserves special mention. Clocking in at over 1 hour and 20 minutes of in-game time, the two players proved that a mech vs. swarm host style game need not be a snoozefest. » Watch the game
SeatStory Cup was produced by TakeTV, the studio of HomeStory Cup fame, as a similar but separate event to its flagship tournament. Hosting both a HearthStone and StarCraft 2 tournament, the StarCraft 2 invites for SSC were scaled down to 16 players from the standard 32 at HSC. StrifeCro, former StarCraft 2 progamer for Evil Geniuses, won the HearthStone event.

Only invites. HSC exists, SSC is a "new" one for Take. No replacement.

not considered a premier tournament probably because it was invitation 16 players and not 32 with qualifiers

gotta ask the liquipedia ppl to be sure but:
-only 16 players, ALL invited
-lowest total prize pool of any Liquipedia-Premier event since.... 2011 ($15,000)

the viewer experience was WAY more fun like that for me.
but this is not what this thread is about: Congrats Snute. 2nd win out of 3 finals in Krefeld? pretty crazy!

Looks like Snute has been practicing like a mad man. He looked nearly invincible as he rolled over Hyun.

Grats Snute!
I agree that WCS might really become interesting this time. Jjakji seemingly is not as dominant offline and imo the MSC nerf, buffed widow mines and hydras made an Impact on the current balance. Top foreigners could really cause an upset.

bittersweet for me considering the player pool but good job i guess snute. To the Avatar I don't consider events like this a Premier Tournament and there's a lot more to it than that lol.

What? Since when did we start calling HSCs majors? I have a feeling there will never be a consensus on such things.
|
HSC/SSC was never a major tournament and it shouldnt be. those tournaments are primarily about the players, about having fun, about the players casting other players and only secondly about competition. major tournaments like IEM, GSL etc are primarily about competition and secondly about everything else.
|
Now Snute only needs to win WCS EU.

Haha, tell that to the players because they seem dead set on winning that money and prestige. You don't fly around the globe for fun. Just look at he look on Snute's face when he messed up 1 game. He was pissed :D
