Basically sounds exactly like KESPA right up until a few months ago.

I will always remember you MarineKing! I understand your choice, StarCraft is dying and the competition is so hard! You know that you can a beast in LoL and be one of the most prestigious player of all time.

I think tournament organizers should start considering upping their prizes for SC2 events otherwise this trend will continue in my POV.

It's just some weird dream they are chasing that they can go from SC2 to being more relaxed in LoL, yet they can't actually perform.
Why? Grape from Samsung Khan (Brood War, not SC2 though admittedly) plays for one of the top Korean teams under the alias Ggoong, why is he able to have that opportunity but MKP (who is going straight into a team and not having to contest for a spot with every other talented korean) isn't?

In the end, being an art or not is in eye of the beholder. My Probilitity Calculus* professor at university generally perceived elegant proofs of complex theorems as beautiful as any art form. Video games can be perceived as an art form but as anything - not all games are art. Just like i.e. painting is an art, but picture on your M:TG card is not (it's product produced based on specification of game designer) even if we refer to it as "art" sometimes, video games can be art: the game "Journey" by Thatgamecompany I consider art, while each iteration of FIFA series I consider not - they're engineered products, nothing more, nothing less. Back to TheFish7 point: I don't see what's troubling about the Riot origins. It was created by two hard core gamers which means: by people who love video games but are not developers themselves. What's troubling here? That's excellent! So many people who love games don't do anything around creating them because they don't know anything about development. The only troubling (slightly) part about the article abou Riot is that majority of the company is owned by Chinese corporation and I'm have second thoughts about any company from non-Free country. As for F2P model - I don't see how that article relates to LoL. Sorry but maybe you should just think the subject once again through. The only thing that seems fishy around LoL is the weird that was stuff going on with Dota community back when LoL was starting to exist.
Well I get paranoid any time the private equity / business consultant types come in. They have this tendency to cause creative destruction, which has positive and negative aspects to it. I'm probably just being old and conservative.

I don't think that LoL will kill sc2 ,because it's a moba game and not an RTS... i think sc2 will be fine until late Legacy of the void.

Sounds like Blizzard shutting down a superior game that they weren't getting that much money off on.

Gotta do what you gotta do! Seems like MKP had been struggling in SC2 for a little while. Best of luck to him, left a lot of good memories in the scene.

The propensity of people dismissing new mediums as legitimate formats of art, communication, expression, etc etc etc, is a part of the reason why new mediums struggle to become recognized by the mainstream. Because even the people involved in the medium are refusing to personally invest into watching a medium grow. Like it or not we need pretentious and artsy people like David Cage, Hideo Kojima, Peter Molyneux, and Richard Garriott to push gaming in directions that the old fan base are uncomfortable or unfamiliar with, and we certainly don't need idiots like you dismissing them just because of your own self-indulgence. Indeed. I'd also like someone to try and explain how Bioshock Infinite was not art (just one recent example that stands out for me). Even if you didn't like the game for whatever reason, you have to give credit where it's due. On topic, MKP, being one of the most famous and well known sc2 stars, switching to LoL is completely shocking to me. hmmm arguable. I can't see bioshock infinite as art. I can see beyond two souls as art though. it is more of an interactive media and some parts were screened at 2013 Tribeca Film Festival which is a pretty big deal. Only LA noire had that level of acceptance in bigger media

Then you find a game you like, and start building a community. That's all there is to it. Play what you like, find others who like that, and play with them. That's how actual communities, and not just marketing-driven oddities like the current SC2 esports, are born.

Man if those are all true then that's really shady tactics.

"in the past"... the "creator guy" always needed a "money guy" to publish his game... all the way right back to the arcade days.
it is only now, with the internet's maturity as a form of mainstream media that a few guys can make a game and get it to become popular with very little influence from an "evil money grubbing publisher".
the "creator guy" who eventually started Activision was told by the CEO of Atari that he was no more important than the assembly line workers soldering together the cartridges. so the "creator guy" just found himself a smarter "money man" and started Activision.
same shit ... different decade.

If the news about SC2 could stop being bad for a change, I would be so happy.

This makes me sad. He is one of my favorite SC2 players.

Thanks for the laugh!

blizzard should just make "SC:BW 2" and it would all be good. i dont blame them for switching to LoL since sc2 is kinda boring atm, (same builds over and over again)

It's funny how people are hating on Riot when they should acknowledge the fact that this is all a business and their business model is working, clearly.
