My thoughts exactly... I mean, if you're going to switch from Football to Baseball, at least switch to major league baseball instead of slow pitch softball.... Wow since when slow pitch softball matches are hugely more popular to watch then major league baseball. You sound just like anti-LoL elitist for no good reason. LoL is here and will remain for years to come. Dota2 has still long road ahead. Either way it's sad news for starcraft 2. Well let me explain why I am an anti-LoL elitist, in fact I don't really dislike the game at all, I think it is moderately fun, and almost as good as the WC3 map that started the whole genre. I hate what Riot represents. They are the the archetype for the bastardization of this entire industry (not that ActiBlizzion is much better at this point, but I digress). Video games used to be an art form. Made by nerds who grew up playing D&D and wanted to recreate that feeling. Riot was founded by a guy from Bain & Co and another from UBS. They saw the opportunity to take an art form, can it, package it, and make it appeal to the unwashed masses. It also uses that horrible free to play system which more or less relies on getting players addicted to the game drug dealer style and then sucking out their life force. See this article for why F2P is a horrible system and a very slippery slope for the industry. Maybe I'm just being paranoid or stuck in the past, but I see a bleak future when a game like LoL is #1 in the world.
Dude early video games were not connected to D&D at all....

I really dislike Riot/Tencent anti-competitive practices but don't really have much against LoL itself as a game.

His skill would have been put to better use in Dota. I will miss watching him. He was an exciting player with a lot of talent. Best of luck to him!

:'( sad day. I still respect his decision...one of my favorite players of all time.

Why not DoTA 2? It is is difficult and skill based. LoL seems like a MOBA for the people who play Farmville, Angry Birds, and Wii Sports with grandma.

Which anti-competitive practices are you talking about?

This is what happens when single zero shit giving company like blizzard holds entire pro scene by the balls. One bold move and everyone screwed. Best part is that they will sell Legacy of the Void and be fine without us. But we are... Well we are here.

we should soon create a thread listing sc2 players that switched to lol xD

guys dont worry MKP is just infiltrating LoL so he can kill it from the inside and save SC2 !

The propensity of people dismissing new mediums as legitimate formats of art, communication, expression, etc etc etc, is a part of the reason why new mediums struggle to become recognized by the mainstream. Because even the people involved in the medium are refusing to personally invest into watching a medium grow. Like it or not we need pretentious and artsy people like David Cage, Hideo Kojima, Peter Molyneux, and Richard Garriott to push gaming in directions that the old fan base are uncomfortable or unfamiliar with, and we certainly don't need idiots like you dismissing them just because of your own self-indulgence.

He's fallen off in SC2 lately, I don't blame him for switching games.

He will be back at some point, calling it.

Damn. So many good memories with this guy.

Indeed. I'd also like someone to try and explain how Bioshock Infinite was not art (just one recent example that stands out for me). Even if you didn't like the game for whatever reason, you have to give credit where it's due.
On topic, MKP, being one of the most famous and well known sc2 stars, switching to LoL is completely shocking to me.

In the end, being an art or not is in eye of the beholder. My Probilitity Calculus* professor at university generally perceived elegant proofs of complex theorems as beautiful as any art form.
Video games can be perceived as an art form but as anything - not all games are art. Just like i.e. painting is an art, but picture on your M:TG card is not (it's product produced based on specification of game designer) even if we refer to it as "art" sometimes, video games can be art: the game "Journey" by Thatgamecompany I consider art, while each iteration of FIFA series I consider not - they're engineered products, nothing more, nothing less.
Back to TheFish7 point: I don't see what's troubling about the Riot origins. It was created by two hard core gamers which means: by people who love video games but are not developers themselves. What's troubling here? That's excellent! So many people who love games don't do anything around creating them because they don't know anything about development. The only troubling (slightly) part about the article abou Riot is that majority of the company is owned by Chinese corporation and I'm have second thoughts about any company from non-Free country.
As for F2P model - I don't see how that article relates to LoL.
Sorry but maybe you should just think the subject once again through.
The only thing that seems fishy around LoL is the weird that was stuff going on with Dota community back when LoL was starting to exist.

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT MarineKing you were my idol :'(
I really had a crush on you, whyyy :-(

And now we'll never hear of him again. Honestly, name one SC2 player who switched games and actually did well and isn't just a benchwarmer? It's just some weird dream they are chasing that they can go from SC2 to being more relaxed in LoL, yet they can't actually perform.

Riot contacting teams and saying that couldn't have both a Dota2 and a League of Legends team? Riot contacting organisations and saying they couldn't have both Dota2 and League of Legends running at the same event? Riot (or more specifically, Riot Pendragon) shutting down the #1 website for WC3 Dota, where maps are hosted to be downloaded etc and leaving a League of Legends advertisement in it's wake? Riot quite possibly stealing ideas for Dota heroes and utilising them for League of Legends?
Take your pick...
edit: I'd just like to point out i'm not bashing LoL here, merely replying to someone who asked a question (though i will admit to not being a fan of the game myself either)

He probably refers to the fact that i.e. tournament can't run LoL and any other MOBA and Riot was trying to enforce such rule on teams (so either you have LoL team or Dota2 team but not both). I think Scooters from EG made this information highly implicated at least.
