Hey guys, so everyone is asking why I dont play in HSC etc.

I decided to go inactive, so I wont play fulltime anymore. Maybe I will try to play a bit while studying, depends on what XMG and me can work out. I set a time limit for me, and now its time to prepare for the reallife . Of course we gonna see eachother again in WarCraft 4, If Blizzard is gonna make it :D.

Was a pleasure to be a part of the E-Sports community. Also a big thanks to XMG who made it possible. Aaaaaaand of course to my incredible nice teammates Monchi,Salt and ToD (too sad we couldnt share too many events with salt and tod under the flag of XMG).

Baba !

I think it's quite sad to see him quit. He was just starting to get better and show some results.

Well, SC2 was never really his game. In WC3 he appeared to have a natural grip for the game, but in SC2 he mostly was hanging around and playing the meta.

So the arrogant douche finally realized that being fulltitme top pro isn't that simple as he makes it when he trashes other top pros. You have to spend a lot of time in practice and the results won't come immediately.
Good for him that he realized he lacks the passion/dedication for it.

Well, he never really made it to the top in SC2 or lasted there (like most ex-WC3 players), so it's probabaly reasonable to cut effort. Maybe SC2 was not the right game for him. But of course it's always said to see a German player leave.
Wish you best of success in other hobbys and RL!

I don't think he left because he can't amount the dedication needed.
I think he left as he only wanted to play SC2 if thinks go his way without him sacrificing to much as he doesn't seem to care that much about the scene/game. So he would rather focus on his studies and get a nice job and so on. If the game would be natural for him and he gets the right amount of cash of it without a huge dedication(that he could make but he won't) he'd stay. Just like Stephano he seems more interested in getting a good amount of cash and enjoying his life the best he can.

As for arrogant well he can be arrogant as he beat stephano in HSC VI without that extensive training and got 2nd in EPS so he can be a bit arrogant and it is probably also a bit of his personna but i am not sure as i don't know him.

I am always happy for people who transition out of eSports. It is isn't a sustainable career path unless you're in the top .000001% in skill or have insane charisma. That is an incredibly small pool of people.

GL XLord! Pleasant WC3 memories.

That does suck I dunno why but something about him made me actually like him, despite him not being korean.
Dunno why everyone says it's the right choice for him. Given he was full time he had the choice between practicing his ass off and really wanting it and actually making it, and probably what he did which is semi-seriously laddering it away. So imo given his previous choice to not practice his ass off (tlo is showing all of us what that results in) his choice to quit is right, but overall (he did finish 3rd hsc 6 afterall) I feel like he could have achieved a lot by just practicing harder.

Wow there are a lot of XLord haters lol. I never had anything against him as a player and his "arrogance" was more like humor for me. Same way everyone has that friend that will take things to the edge of a joke being funny, but never pushes it past that point. Anyways I hope the best for him, and I hope his arm will feel better soon .

I really love it how every event can be used for a "Sc2 is dieing" post.

Today was it raining the whole day: Do something Blizzard, to save E-Sports!

And you have to be really dumb to see any connections to Hots.

It's not blizzard killing e-sports anymore! It's those darn Kespa players who are so incredibly talented. They're de-motivativating the other pros who are starting to realize the futility of their efforts in the face of matching up against the players of Flash-Jaedong level caliber.

He is now the ex-Lord!

Only the very top echelon can make a good salary being a SC2 pro-gamer. Only a handful of players are well paid relative to normal jobs. If you are not quite there in the big prize money then you don't win/earn very much at all, and there is only a limited amount of time that people can cope with this.

In general, disrespectful people without proper manners aren't liked in real life so I don't see how Xlord managed to get a fan-base. Perhaps because of all the drama he created while being a mid-lvl player.

Anyway good riddance. I Hope we don't hear about him again.

Perhaps it's because of his WC3 career, where he was one of the few players that actually made UD work. He also made a sweet 32000 euros (which comes out to around 42,000 USD) in his career.

you can study and play. Welmu is good example, he studies compurter science at university and is one of the best european protosses.

One of the best european protosses is a bit too much credit. He is maybe Top 10 in EU. Maybe.

I can imagine only Naniwa (sometimes he is low level european pro), Grubby and maybe Babyknight and MaNa. They might be sometime better than Welmu and sometimes worse

This is so correct :D SC2 is much more like WC3 than like BW.

Anyways he was funny, sad to see him leave. People need to realize the difference in real BM and just funny "BM". He never meant anything to insult anyone, but sometimes people are pricks and judge about stuff they do not have a clue about.

I doubt he will be the last Zerg to quit. HotS ruined many old Zerg play styles. Those who have to learn a new style have an opportunity to leave and do something else with their life, instead of figuring out the game again.

He does mention returning for Warcraft 4, so the gamer part of him isn't dead.

Indeed, ixi's undead skills were unreal. He dominated the German WC3 scene for years and was internationally better known than other German undeads, like HasoObs or HLA (Hate-Love-Anger.)

He played an ultra epic series versus Yaws (German human player) in the EPS. Even though he lost that Bo5, he left you in awe about his skill.

Warcraft is the main franchise of Blizzard. Starcraft is still a spin-off, for Scifi-Fans and for an esports phenomenon. Diablo don't even origins from Blizzard.

I guess that now with HotS we will have a new line of pro players, for me it feels like the old generation is leaving and a new one is rising, eventualy all of our favorite pros will retire and we will have new ones to be fans of.
Anyway, good luck in the future!

Remember casting his games in War3... he was like 16 back then.. talented prospect who could hang with professionals like grubby, tod back in the days. lol... we need war4 now..but blizzard investing too much in sc2 already.. probably not gonna start considering it until legacy of the void for a long time.

An even better example is socke who has been doing it for years. At the end of the day it just all comes down to being able to set your priorities, if you fail to do it properly quiting one thing for the other may be the best choice, but if you do it right and you love what you do you should almost always be able to do multiple things at once and be perfectly fine.

Well given that wc3 is actually a (by a gigantic margin) inferior game to star 2 (you would have to be really dumb to not see that, this is not an opinion question, war3 is so unblievable dumbed down compared to starcraft, it's kinda sad actually), while brood war is kinda like starcraft 2 but way way harder and with a way bigger skill gab (though hots is a huge step in the right direction), I highly doubt war 3 pros would all switch if they actually care about the game they play. Because I'd assume that if you are an rts player you kinda like hard games (otherwise you'd play moba) and I would never ever volunterely switch to an inferior game (lets be honest kespa was forced). Grubby and Naniwa are known for saying that star 2 is way way harder and I highly doubt that, unless they are desperate for easy money, they would switch. I guess a lot of shitty foreigners may switch as they would have to actually practice star 2 a lot to keep up with koreans long term, and an inferior game always means that less practice gives you more, but the talented pro gamers should stick with the better game.

On top of that you can already tell that blizzard is having a hard time getting one rts right, I don't even wanna imagine what they would come up with if they'd have to deal with two rts at the same time. I mean last time they left bw balance to kespa map making and created a game that is as far away from rts as you can get without it not being an rts, which I guess allowed the moba genre to be created, but whether that is even a good thing is a question of opinion.

Bullshit. Socke has paused his studies in order to become full time pro already 2 years ago or so.

Say that game x is much harder than y is very very relative, rather meaningless. It's dependent on (correct) opponent! Nothing else. Grubby would problably have won 90% of all wc3 tournament if Moon, Sky, ToD, Lyn would have never existed in wc3. The same in sc1. Flash without Bisu, Jaedong, Fantasy etc.

I cant bring an example in Sc2 WoL because we see all 2 month 5 "new" player take the top5 right now, and sadly that nobody was constant in the top3 for one year (exception: Stephano in foreigner szene).

sc2 had a stronger playerbase in WoL than wc3 ever did simply becuase of the amount of Koreans playing it full time. Now that most of the bw pros are also playing sc2 it actually makes it the RTS with the most talent on display that anyone has seen.

everything good has to come to and end. Loved War3 with its small lovely community where u didnt have to play fulltime to upset pros every now and then. In starcraft 2 you have to be ahead of the metagame or just a fucking machine like innovation to do well. Even some pros who play 16 hours/day cant keep up. In my opinion thats not a game anymore its brutal work. I think Xlord did the right step. Hope there will be a war4. would be so fucking amazing. In my opinion war 3 was the best game ever made.

Can't say I'll be sorry to see him and his attitude go (his behavior back at HSC VI was petty beyond words), but good luck to him in his studies, regardless. Honestly, it's probably a better choice for him anyway -- I never saw him going far in eSports given his arrogance and constant balance whining.
