That may be the one (or one of the few) exception(s), but the average salary is going to be just "low-regular". The problem with eSports is that there is - to use Starcraft terminology - no logical transition into any other job not connected to eSport and the jobs that could be transitions (casting and streaming/organizing events) are very limited and already taken. The problem is that you cant learn new things as easily anymore when you are 25+ and you kinda wasted the time playing a game and gathering specific knowledge which becomes irrelevant when no one plays the game anymore. Just because there is a handful of people who make enough money for the rest of their lives in the few years of eSport doesnt mean it is a healthy career option for kids. IdrA is a good specimen to study and to see what happens next ... when he does something completely different. As iNcontrol suggested he may have some passions to turn into a job, but that could also end up with him complaining about "imbalanced lobsters" in the kitchen.

I liked IdrA's beheaviour because I think he was the only player with balls to say what he thinks. Even so I don't think that it is about his success or behavior: 1- Idra always was this way. He had major argments and major offence multiple times. Why now? 2- People like machine haven't had any major (minor?) success for as long as I can remember. Why throw him because he haven't been performing his best lately. There probably is something other then what's been said here. If this is the reason than Alex is a man who doesn't know why he does what he does.

I've seen that Idra called him a "shit player" and watched Demuslim talk about gifting him wins to relieve tension. Has there been a thread about this? Is this one of the reasons Idra has been fired or has there been a comment from someone in EG about this? I speculate that this had something to do with it, honestly. Idra started some drama between him and Demuslim when he played a game against him while they were both streaming, and called DemuSlim a "shit player" on his stream after losing to him. DemuSlim found out about this and was obviously upset, and stream-sniped Idra as a joke. After this, Idra started to instantly leave the games against Demuslim every time they met on ladder. Demuslim expressed frequently that he wanted the drama to go away so they could be amiable teammates again, but Idra wouldn't let it go. Not sure how much this had to do with it, but it's possible it had an impact of some kind.

In Korea, it might go further than in America though. I live in Santa Monica, California, where $100k/yr is enough for one person to rent (not buy) an older-construction one-bedroom apartment in a nice but high-traffic neighborhood, pay bills, eat out occasionally, and save some but not that much money. So, at least here it's comfortable but there's not much "wealth" in it. Pretty sure that Seoul is more expensive than here.

Or you don't understand the meaning of the word "wealthy." It's quite different from "well-off." People who make a $100K a year are lower middle class in America tbh. America is a country with extremely unequal levels of income. The actual upper class in America constitutes only about 0.4% of the population, and they are VASTLY wealthier than the category right below them. Those people are considered wealthy. Celebs, etc are considered rich. And plebians who make $100K or so are just doing alright. Then again, this is a forum of younger kids for the most part so to them six figures must seem like quite a lot of money.

Players are liked and kept on teams for differing reasons, Idra was basically a esports culture celebrity riding the waves of his fan base that he's gathered, and as long as that media attention meant positive imaging for EG or that the attracted attention outweighed the cons for the management it was enough to warrant him staying on the team. Evidently they've decided that this just wasn't cutting it any more. On May 10 2013 14:43 Ansinjunger wrote: A lot of people have had professional help. Not saying that he is, people are just throwing their own diagnosis' around like they always do (saying that someone has absolutely zero problems is also a diagnosis) with out considering that this media culture feeding frenzy might actually be hurting a person.

You must've missed the part where I said it would be amazing for me to make that kind of money. I'm sure if you read that part, you wouldn't have been so quick to try and insult me personally, insinuating that I'm a spoiled child with a rich father. My family was poor and I grew up broke, thank you very much.

Can someone explain to me please what happened? Or a link to an explanation in the thread would also be greatly appreciated. Is this an overreaction from EG?

I have to say i agree with both points, and i do believe something else must of went on. I can only hope should idra stay in esports that he lands a team with less publicity and can get back to the roots of progaming and fuck the hype train that went along with EG.

Do you really believe that eSports need a person such as Idra? A guy who doesn't even have love for the game.
