It's sad because a man lost his job and his primary source of income, because his tragic flaw finally got the better of him.
It's sad because a manager had to fire one of his employees whom he had worked with, spent time with, and invested in over the past three years.
It's sad because the teammates who livd with, supported, and laughed with Idra are watching this happen, and are powerless to make it better. We can only imagine how much time and effort the EG teammates have invested in trying to help Greg manage his emotions.
Yet while it is sad for everyone involved, it may be that this is the best thing to happen for all. This is probably the best move for the EG brand and team. And for Idra, this might end up being good for him in the long run. Perhaps he lands with another team and gets the help he needs. Perhaps he switches careers. Either way, it is an opportunity to learn and start fresh.
This is why Alex Garfield gets paid the big bucks, to make the tough decisions that suck for everyone involved, but are ultimately in everyone's best interests.
Nicely summed up. Good job.

Reddit is a pox on society. so what's more childish, your shifting of blame from the person who acted poorly to everyone who isn't interested in bullshit, or people not being interested in bullshit? Anyone who actually called sponsors is a real piece of shit honestly. Not liking the player, boycotting the player is one thing, but it takes someone with a dumpster ass life to actively try to make someone lose their job. Enough is enough at times. Sponsors bring money because its the audience that buys their product. If the audience is disgusted with behavior and attitude of a player who is basically funded with their money, they can and should voice it out. There should be no free protection and players should be accountable for decision they make.
Contacting sponsors should be a last resort, as it doesn't just hurt the player in question, but also the team, and the industry. Sponsors don't like hearing that their investment is backfiring and getting them negative publicity. In the case of a young industry like ESPORTS, it's quite likely they'll just pull out of the entire industry rather than just pull support of one particular player. It's too volatile right now. There isn't enough money in the scene just yet for it to sustain this kind of negative pressure. Instead, try contacting the teams directly.

Lol, why are they?
The audience responded, by watching everything he fucking does/did.
Yes, he stepped (marginally) over the line, and they took action. Until now (read Alex's statement), the fact that he got that attention (in your words, 'Attention whore') was one of the reasons they saw value in him on the roster.

Mmm, Flash may take issue with that. Why, how much is he making for playing SC2? His salary is still a continuation from sc1 so he's making over a 100k.

His contract in 2011 was for 2 years and his salary was $250k, with incentives would go to $300k per year. So he should be in a contract year this year.

Mmm, Flash may take issue with that. Yeah I think there are some. Not a lot but some, Flash who used to (not sure if he still does) make 300k a year or something and not having to pay living expenses so I imagine he has quiet a bit of money especially with his osl + msl wins. Same with jaedong or a bunch of other high end players. Salary + no living expenses + tournament winnings aren't bad off. Now like I said there aren't many of them, but there are a select few that make a pretty good living. From what EG has said in the past (this was 2 years ago about) that their A-list players do get 6 figures. That's pretty good ^^. I honestly hope that they don't pick up Flash, Fantasy, Bisu or Stork. I already dislike the fact that they have Jaedong.

Maybe they thought of his release before the recent events, just because they needed to pay the korean players too, and he wasn't showing results.
Also, we can start the conspiracy theories and say that now they can say that The Alliance is part of EG, and Nani can go to the lair.

Idra was the first SC2 player i cared about. He and his personality is what got me into watching starcraft 2. He is the reason I ever cared about EG (for some reason, I never cared about SC2 teams or players besides Nestea, because of his obvious brilliance, and Idra because of his personality and stubbornness in play style). As far as I'm concerned, when Idra was released, he took the EG spirit with him, leaving behind just a rich team of good players. Imagine IM without Nestea and MVP...i don't care if those two never win a championship again, they are the old guard. They invented strategies and ways to perceive this game. They are the soul of IM. Its the exact same thing.

hm, I guess that really depends on how much you think 100k is.
I don't really think of 100k as "wealthy", although personally, I think it would be amazing to make that much money. In Korea, it might go further than in America though.

It's quite obvious that they wanted to change some of his behaviors (hence the medical help).

Not really paid much attention to Starcraft drama recently. One thing I've seen hinted at is Idra's attitude towards Demuslim. I've seen that Idra called him a "shit player" and watched Demuslim talk about gifting him wins to relieve tension. Has there been a thread about this? Is this one of the reasons Idra has been fired or has there been a comment from someone in EG about this?

Damn, that's a lot of money to give up.... I think I would cry if I lost a job paying me that much with no post high school education.

That is just making excuses that permits that behavior. It has to be learned hard way and it's up to players to step up, show manners and help to establish Esports as not "risky" investment. Investors/Sponsors should be aware of what is going on because just as you want Esports to grow, they want to know their investment is in the right place and players they sponsor do not damage their reputation. Punishing Stephano and now Idra should serve as great example for future players what is expected of them.
