Think whatever you want, its most likely wrong. Broodwar had like less than 10% of the events SC2 currently has running, and it stayed popular for 5-7 years like that. Things naturally end, and new things take their place. Having a single foreigner house shut down that is not even being used right now has nothing to do with SC2 taking a negative hit. Stop reading soo closely into things.
Since you mention BW, yes, it did have less events then sc2.... but to put things in perspective, BW was THE esport game during that era. There wasn't anything close to it to threaten its throne. When one thought of esports, one thought of BW first.
That's not true for a lot of people. There are a number of us who thought of Brood War as the game that Koreans played, with Counterstrike as the best competitive title.
Yeah. CS and Q3 were more like sport to me, until I stumbled on Korean scene.

It actually is. Don't try to find excuses.
If sc2 was growing, more people would be moving into gom house (foreginers and koreans from other cities).
Didn't you watch the video? The reason why they are thinking about closing the GOM house (they haven't actually closed it yet, they are still thinking about it) is because the people who came over treated it as a vacation. They didn't really use the house to actually practice.
Why they don't practice? Have you thought about it?

Naniwa, Major, Mana all said positive things about the house. All players who had at least a bit of success prior to moving to Korea. Being at least decent in the foreigner scene means that those people have a minimum of drive, motivation & self discipline to train.
If you need a person to tell you to train - you were the wrong person for the GOM house.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. The big Foreign teams (Quantic, EG, TL) should partner up and get a house in Korea. Ultimately one that's in the same building as one of the Korean teams.
These teams all have Koreans on their teams, and on top of that they have non-Koreans that wants to stay in Korea. And if they get one that's big enough they can even let other players can rent Space there.
Personally I'm still waiting for the EG-response to Slayers disbanding. The newsletter hinted at something happening.

When was the last time more than one foreigner used it for like, a week? When was the last time a GOOD foreigner used it? Honestly I can only think of when the FXO team used it like a year and a half ago.
I think so too. I don't think it's necessarily a bad sign, I'm guessing foreigners just have better places to stay there now in Korea. It's no big deal.
Well, if I'm not mistaken, the original intent of the house, was to give foreigners who came to Korea to enter GSL qualifiers a place to stay. Instead, it was looking like it became a sort of hotel for foreigners who went to Korea to train, even if they had no intention and or hope of playing in the GSL.

Nice Strawman.
Hehe, I had to google that word. My point wasn't actually a strawman. I wasn't misinterpreting your opinion, instead I was asking you to develop your idea, which would bring you to the same point where I am.

Holyshit, I think this comment almost gave me cancer.Someone doesn't know how insane is cost of a house in Seoul is......
Umm I think desRow probably knows this stuff pretty well.
Besides, GOM must have some money to spare.
Just because they have money to spare doesn't mean they have to share it.. god damn some of you are so entitled and sheltered!

Cause they treated it like a vacation. We are making circles here. You cannot ask why if it was explained already...

Because foreigners are lazy. They're lazy in LoL too because they stream for entertainment for stream money instead of practicing to get better. That's why all the NA LoL teams got rocked at s2 finals.

It was not an idea or MY opinion, I stated what was said in the video.
Not surprised this is happening. House is not used like it should be and many korean teams have partnerships with foreign teams or allow top foreigners to stay in their team house. GOM should have gone a different route with the house to make it more successful.

can easily understand that they want to close the house down, makes no sense to keep it up unless its like 80% full nonstop. right now it has 1 or 2 guys living there now and then.

Well it's not an official announcement, but I uploaded a short video about it:
Thanks Khaldor
EDIT: After watching your video, I feel really sympathetic towards GOM for putting the time and effort and money and any other resources towards organizing that house, and then hearing about how some of the players there really pissed away their responsibilities and treated it like a vacation, rather than a hardcore training facility and an opportunity to try and become the best that they really could.
I hope all the foreigners who plan on staying in Korea have other ideas for homes lined up, and it sounds like you have some as well

So what? It's still a bad news. It clearly shows that there are problems with SC2 right now.
Right, cause the only measure of success is keep paying for useless costs like the gom house.
