In a car driving 20 hours to dallas but excited to update that SK T1 Rain will be playing in the open bracket last minute. @mlg @MLGSundance
Reigning OSL champion and SKT T1's ace Rain will be entering the open bracket at MLG Dallas (Fall). He will be trying to get into the group stages that feature reigning GSL champion Life, most recent Arena champion Taeja, and God himself in Flash.
Also entering the open bracket will be two former GSL champions! Polt who yesterday advanced to the Ro16 of Code S with wins over Taeja and finale will be traveling to Dallas and then to Lone Star Clash. MC, falling in the Up/Down matches, will try to get back on track with another foreign tournament win.

I'm gonna laugh if something silly happens in open bracket and Rain gets knocked out early or ends up with a bad seed in champ bracket.

Okay, if you say so I believe you. Still, I don't agree with doing this a few day before the event. I really don't think the guy will be able to play up to his standards.
He perhaps will understand it after getting tired as hell by doing this.

Only thing that could make it better would be if my TL shirt and Hoodie arrive in time for Barcraft. It's a long shot, but I've got all my appendages crossed hoping for it anyway.

Well its his call and he requested to play to its w/e. However i think he is under estimating how hard making an open bracket run will be. It takes a tremendous amount of stamia/endurance to do this, let alone skill. It's much different than just playing ladder for 8 hours straight. You don't even get to play the whole time so staying warmed up can be a problem. But Rain is fucking good as fuck so I guess give him 50% making it to pool play/champ bracket or w/e it is this event. Yes that is just a random number I pulled out haha.
lol @ people saying he will be tired as hell doing this
yea the jetlag may be new to him but playing a game all day isn't, these kespa players aren't scared of an open bracket because of 'stamina' from what ive seen, ive only seen one kespa player talk about stamina being a possible issue, and i dont think rain is the type to 'run out of energy', although he may feel shitty from jet lag

Rain doesn't give a fuck about jet lag.
He wants ALL the titles.
Obviously a Bonjwa is immune to fatigue.
Though, more seriously, if Rain wins MLG, GSL and WCG this year, surely there will be a case for him being the best WoL player once that chapter wraps up.

WCG Korea wasn't a gauntlet style tournament, most series anyone had to play on a given day was 3, and apart from the final day nobody played more than a series a day.

No. Not enough. Mvp can´t be beaten anymore, assuming HotS gets released at least two seasons of GSL into 2013.

Well Rain has OSL, WCS Asia, if he wins the overall WCS this MLG and then the two(Or more who really knows when HotS will be released..) GSL's back to back I think it would be close. but I don't really think thats going to happen. Merely pointing out that it is possible for MVP to be beaten for that title still. The possibility is slim as hell, but it's still there!
This is like that time DRG came to MLG when he was on a roll and winning everything, except worse. I wonder who is going to have the honor of getting rolled by him in the finals, and who the unlucky bastards on his half of the bracket are going to be.
Should be an easy road to the championship bracket for Rain, Polt and MC through the open bracket. No real threats in the open bracket from foreigners, and I doubt there will be an upset by no-names.

Ahh indeed you are right. My memory is getting rusty with age. Well regardless, going 12-1 in Asia finals, beating the likes of Liquid Hero, CJ Hero and Parting is still a great feat.
With Taeja's TvP gone down the gutter, the big one to look out for here Life vs Rain...or for the foreigner fanboys, Scarlett vs Rain!

Very diplomatically put, but I'm pretty sure the conversation went along the lines of:
"Hey, is it alright if we send Rain down to win Dallas?"
"Sure, I mean he can attend and compete.."
"So.. how much are you setting aside for Rain? How much will 2nd place be getting?"
F*CK YEAH. So hype. It'll be tough for Rain to come out of the open-bracket with jet lag and win (especially with this probably being his first trip to USA and experience playing a tournament in these conditions) but I'm interested in seeing how he does.
It will be very interesting to see how Rain handles MLG's format. People forget when they think about these proleague players coming over for something like MLG. They don't get a week to prepare for one opponent.
Let's go MC!
edit: Glad to see ToD also in the open bracket, that makes me quite happy. Would love for some miracle to happen and see Grubby vs ToD at some point
This event is fucking stacked. Really looking forward to watching now. Flash, Rain, MC, Taeja, Leenock, Life and some of the best foreigners. Ermahgerd. Anyone know if there will be a free stream?
Sun definitely has the stamina to play the open bracket. These Kespa players have a grueling 12 hours practice regimen everyday.
The only problem is jetlag( which is quite painful) that can affected your gameplay. If he is flown to US a couple of days prior the tournament and has time to adjust to the timezone over there, then he will fine but that does not seem to be the case.
Jetlag can hit you pretty hard if you experienced it before.

It's $25k for winning a couple of days tournament... of course Rain wants a go! I think he *should* be ok with the format because he's just always super careful and standard anyway. Jetlag may be an issue - but even a jetlagged Rain is too good for 99.99% of players.

Considering that they have qualifiers in Korea and Rain won WCS Asia, I don't think the weekend tournament style will be a big issue for him. If anything, playing in the US (jetlag, food, rest, etc) might be a bigger factor. Since it looks like he has to play GSL on Thursday in Korea, it looks like he won't have much time to adjust.

Most likely a hotel like most koreans. Even those on foreign teams/partner teams mostly stay in hotels since the team houses are usually not in the same city as the tournament.

No, no way.
The only way there is going to be a better WoL player than Mvp is if someone wins more than 4 GSL's/OSL's and at least matches his 4 foreign tournament gold medals.
I think that Rain can surely dominate the last few months of WoL. But TaeJa's recent losses have shown how little the margin between "he's owning everybody" and "he's beginning to slump" really is. Rain has been very consistent until now, reaching the group stages should be no problem for him.
Mvp definitely is the player, who will always be remembered as WoL's strongest force, even Rain winning everything from now on won't change that.

Huh?
SK t1 contacted us, Rain wants to win Dallas and asked to attend.
No, no way.
The only way there is going to be a better WoL player than Mvp is if someone wins more than 4 GSL's/OSL's and at least matches his 4 foreign tournament gold medals.
With the time left before HOTS It's impossible.
well, this one + blizzcup + maybe season 1 GSL next year and OSL spring = 4 more plus plenty of foreign tourneys to win
not impossible, just really really really hard haha

I shouldn't say impossible, I should say It's not going to happen.
The other players anywhere close to matching his records are all slumping.
Nestea - Code B, MC - Code A, MMA - Code A
no one else is anywhere close.
really doubt there will be another WoL OSL also.
And even if someone does manage to do this, they will be missing 2 silver medals in a starleague/ 2 semi finals appearances, and their record will be over a few month/half a year instead of consistent for 2 + years.

marineking could match that, if he wins the next 4 major korean starleagues or something lol. he's been decent over the whole of sc2
and DRG is about as far away as marineking, i think. 3 more titles + 2/3 foreign tourneys

in theory yes, he's been around long enough. he would have to win 2 foreign tournaments and at least + 4 starleagues in like less than 6 months though, so good luck.
I haven't been particularly excited by MLGs this year, but man am I excited for this one. I've been rationing the amount of starcraft I watch lately (for the sake of school, work, family, and my own personal enjoyment) and I'm really looking forward to spending a good portion of the weekend at a barcraft or parked in front of my TV watching MLG. It's going to be awesome!
Well, right now Rain is the unofficial world champion. Imagine if he win his code S group and then lose to some nobody in the open bracket. We'll have a totally unexpected new champion )
And this tournament's excitement just skyrocketed! Not saying it wasn't exciting before - I was really pumped for this, but with Rain being there it's so much better! Grubby, Rain, Nani, pretty much all my favourite players are there, only Parting missing!

Don't see anyone that poses a considerable threat to Rain. He looked unstoppable in his Code S run. He only lost to the best of the best and they will not be at this event. Rain will take it easy.

Apparently a top five Terran who qualified for basically every LAN tournament in Nov/Dec and a real contender for all those tournaments is "hype".
I would love to see Polt and/or Rain in the same open bracket and end up in Group C, so Polt can get his revenge, or that Rain can tear up the strongest group in MLG.

While he doesn't have the sick micro of Maru, macro of Taeja or decision making of MVP but he is certainly a solid all rounder. While i won't put money on Polt winning Mlg, he is solid enough to get high up there.

wouldn't be complimenting taeja for his macro haha, he floats thousands randomly in game. probably a better comparison would be bomber or mkp, who both have pretty sick macro
I hope Rain takes this. This is going to be very different though. 5 hours of continuous competitive gaming is no joke. He's going to have to maintain his focus and keep his fundamentals strong.

Sure and normally I'd be like" well he is protoss so some random na guy will pvp him out" but tbh rain may be the only guy who actually understands pvp. I think he'll do fine, it's very rare for a kespa player to be able to go to their coach and get to an event like this, I think he knows what to expect and he wants to win really badly.

5 hours is an understatement. I wish that it was only 5 hours lol... I competed in MLG raleigh and day one took almost 6 hours. and then day 2 took almost 9 till I was done( i didnt even make it through all of saturday before being elimed)... And its not easy getting food and staying focused from match to the next, especially when all my matches ran long and didnt get much of any break in the end. I say this because people underestimate the amount of strain an event like this and what players go through to make that attempt to fight it out of that open bracket. Im hoping rain prepared for something grueling like that, as I really want him to go deep in this. Same with all the other tosses like SSON and MC. Been watching SSON's stream alot and im just not sure how well he will do in an event like this, he has the potential to go far.
EDIT: and ughhh I stand out in that promo video like a sore thumb... Finals clip first vs leenock, you can tell who is a protoss player and first fan sitting in that crowd lol...

This.
MLG's Open Bracket is GRUELING. After the first 2/3 rounds (once it's all done in one heat) it becomes a literal marathon. Players barely have time to use the restroom, let alone eat. It's really really tough on even the most seasoned players. Dallas is a stacked field and EVERY match will take something out of the players.
Whoever makes it out of the Open Bracket into Pool Play has huge amounts of respect from me.

Even those first few rounds and heats, are grueling as you never know when your going to play, As MLG doesnt tell you which heat your in until your name is announced... So you still have to be around and trying to find out whats going on. And to add on top of that practice, warm up is before hand, and that makes the day even longer.
