Seriously... In Chile we said worse things than that to friends, and we just laugh, take a beer and we just still trash talking each other... xD

great that you can do so in chile... we are talking about koreans here.

I tried explain that in others countries and cultures, isn't offensive to talk with friends like that... maybe in another culture this kind of things deserves death sentence.

ps: I know the topic is about Koreans, don't need to clarify that

Believe me, in east asian, China, Korea, Japan, Taiwan, this kind of thing is very very bad even between very close friends.

No... There are stuffy, proper people and then there are more blue-collar, rough-around-the-edges kind of people. This is true in every country, including Korea. I'm Korean, and I know a lot of a fobs straight from Korea that absolutely love saying "shibal" and "shibalnom" all the time. It's just like in the US where there are people that love to curse and use "fuck" and "fucking" as a catch-all word to describe all situations. And of course, here in the US, there are people that curse very rarely and would feel offended by profanity.

It's naive to think this broad spectrum of people doesn't exist in every country, even in more conservative cultures like those in Asia.

i can confirm that you can say "shibal"

you wouldnt say shibalnom to a friend however unless you want to fight with him

Also unless your really close to the person :D

Well don't forget to add that MC and Genius are two of the biggest trolls/jokers in the korean SC2 scene. It wasn't just some random korean he didn't know it was fucking Genius!

MC has made quite an apology of what he said to Genius, so I'm guessing even he thinks it was in poor taste. Neither does he say it was just a joke.

MC apologised because he is getting a shitton of flame on twitter. Its more like he is forced to apologise, he even talked about how the response is crazy on his end

You say you're Singaporean and call me a troll...and yet you don't seem to understand the power losing face and being shamed before a live audience.

I'm sorry, but being called out online just does NOT have the same effect.

Shibhal means f the vagina

since TL believes raping a 14 year old girl is a joke.. that qualifies as a joke as well i guess

Any one who thinks basically a your momma insult(Though dirtier) is something to get upset about is either 10 or entirely to serious -.-

You certainly don't know enough about Asian culture. We takes jokes about family members very seriously, and this type of jokes is the worst. They can easily turn friends into enemies (in my country it is)

I don't know in what context this was used, but I just have to correct you here. Close friends in Korea can say pretty much anything and everything to each other without being serious, just like in any other culture. Saying 'motherfucker' or 'cunt' to your close mate isn't a big deal if you know your just mucking about. Same goes for shibalnom or any other curse-word in Korean.

Not just Korea. The largest country in Asia also has curses directed at mothers that are extremely common.

Base on his last line, I am sure he did it because he is forced to.

Lol, are you serious? Sure, fights can start with this phrase. And fights can start with English with English curses as well. If tension is already high between 2 people and that phrase is used. But there are many instances where friends would say diu lei loh moh when bantering with each other. Again, it depends on the situation and context.

My hong kong friends don't like it though, they fought with some other friends at a pub near kowloon hotel just because of the sentence. I guess some people are more sensitive or respectful for the parents, whichever way you choose

Nope, that was meant towards the others who have previously apologised. The fact that he recognizes this (whether that is Jessica's true motive or not) and mentions it would make it rather unlikely to do the same. If he does apologize all he's doing is taking and accepting the blame. He could just as well have left it at this tweet and stop twittering if he believes he's completely in the right.

MC would be the last person to issue an apology if he doesn't feel like it. If he thinks he's completely in the right, he would say so and leave it at that.

From reddit translation of MC's tweet

[...] You only say what you want and making it so I end up looking like the bad guy. Doing this over Twitter doesn't seem appropriate. Anyone can see that you are trying to publicly shame, vilify others into apologizing to you. I'm glad you're getting your way.

Base on his last line, I am sure he did it because he is forced to.

:/ Could have sworn he meant everyone including himself base on the whole translation.

Wait, you can curse parents in korea?!? Fuck yes, but no where would you see a close friend go fuck your mom in asia. Or is it different in korea?

Not just Korea. The largest country in Asia also has curses directed at mothers that are extremely common.

I can confirm China doesn't allow that. People can get stab for it. Even hong kong, a part of china, doesn't use diu lei loh moh much unless you really hate the person

It doesn't have to do with respect. They're just empty words, loaded to insult people. Tons of people say cao ni ma or tamade all the time... no hard feelings... depends on the people. You can't expect to know and understand every culture (like you claim to based on this thread...).

It's also normal to piss on BoxeR's team? Especially so since MC ought to have known about the problems?

Not to mention that apperantly BoxeR found it rude enough to share with Jessica, so I'm guessing it isn't so normal as you make it out to be.

Yeah... Absolutely normal I agree, I mean I have a friend whos Jewish and I started most games slurring his heritage and asking him how his 40year journey was (he went to a desert) and then he made similar derogatory remarks.

How friends actually are.

That's your own opinion, obviously Boxer didn't take it as a joke, and got offended by the "Slaerys trash" remark. These words is not just towards Genius, it is towards the whole team.

When friends don't get offended, ok, that's fine, but if they do, you apologize.
