Well, they do have a bunch of crazy fucks right next to them and who knows what they will do. I'm not a fan of conscription at all, but I can see why South Korea needs it. A couple years isn't that long anyways although I agree, it does suck for the progamers, which is probably why most of them wait until they are in their late 20s to finally go in.
A couple isn't that long?
Do you know how devastating it is for athletes or even entertainers to have to stop all activity for 2 years, it's basically a career ender.
The sad thing is that some of those people probably still had a good career before leaving, they don't when they come back.
Well, if they hate that aspect of their country so much then they can just refuse to go in. They just can never go back to South Korea again after doing that.
or they get thrown in jail.
tbh, it's probably a good thing for a lot of gamers. give their life some structure and a chance to develop some real life skills.

Holy shit. Get a grip and get a clue. Mandatory military service is absolutely necessary when you have NKorea and a country with a relatively small population. There's nothing retarded about their system, in fact it's insanely practical and smart. It doesn't mess up your career and there's opportunities to join ACE and still compete while you are in the military. I'm sure Koreans don't think the same way as you do, it's probably somewhat of an honor (not sure) to serve your country and fulfill your duty. There is a ton of flexibility when it comes to entering the military for these gamers, NaDa could have done it a while back but he chose other opportunities such as school and SC2.
I'm sad that NaDa is retiring on a foreign team, and one that he never even played for ;_;
Good bye NaDa, I hope we see you on ACE leading the SC2 team

You linked a wiki article and made a statement that has no meaning. I'm confused.
"South Korea currently has among the longest military service periods in the world, ranked behind Israel and Singapore. In recent years, there has been pressure from the public demanding either a shortening of the term or a switch to voluntary military service."
I haven't heard much about NaDa in the last months or so... kind of forgot about him because the competition in progaming is so high and there are so many great players. I feel sorry for him that it had to end this way. Hope he succeeds in whatever he will do in the future

Yea sorry, I'm going to base my perceptions of Korean people on my own experiences and friends rather than a one liner from a wiki article. That doesn't refute anything i said anyways.

Not doing your mandatory service is considered treason and can get you in jail.
They would never criticize it publicly. So yeah, it refutes everything you say, they do it cause they have no choice, no one in their right mind would do a 2 year military service willingly when they have no desire to be in the army.

You do know that Ace is a starcraft team within the military right? As in Airforce Ace edit: Ok so your point was that some people wanted shorter terms, ergo NaDa doesn't want to do his military service?

Yea, you have every person in South Korea figured out man. You must be the grandchild of Sigmund Freud, can you read my mind?
Even if you are right, I'm laughing at how easily thoughts can be planted in your head through the internet. Look at how that wiki quote has transformed into what you are spewing. "In recent years, there has been pressure" turns into "No one in their right mind would do 2 year military service willingly"
