Knock off the SC2 vs BW vs LoL vs whatever crap please. |

Or actually out of the box. I remember a few debates I had on another forum in the Beta stages of SC2 with people that were levelling against SC2 for having archaic graphics compared to RTS games released two years before. It's possible to have 'old' graphics that are aesthetically pleasing and still have good gameplay. The argument applies not only to BW, but to SC2 itself which I assume Nor et al are arguing.
You cannot build a scene when the lifespan of a game is 2 years when the next new graphics game comes rendering the old obsolete.

I am looking forward to a SC2 proleague
|
I just really hope we get some English-casted BW games that would be awesome. Looks like once SC2 becomes part of proleague players will have to choose one or the other. I don't think you can play both and succeed unlike some fighting games. Sad, but it looks like they won't give players the choice after the first season. Love both games so it'd be great for them to continue but I'm not sure how it would work.
Seems really cool and big of GOM to allow the negotiations to take place before their contract is up. This seems like a great first step to having both GSL and Proleague coexist!

best outcome would be all sc2 viewers realize how much more fun it is to watch bw than sc2 after seeing the quality of games back to back, which leads to broodwar resurgence internationally... one can hope right?

It would be painful to see Flash or JD losing to coinflip guys like MKP or any foreigner. MKP is a coinflip guy? fuck you man, he's probably the hardest practicing sc2 pro on earth No, SC2 is a coinflip game. I don't doubt about MKP practice time, just see the difference of level between him and the top on BW. Fu too btw. Right. Which is why the same people keep winning over and over and over?
Maybe they all have 2 headed coins haha
Anyways This is good for sc2 and bad for bw of course.
I am more interested on how KeSPA and GOM will work together. because you have 2 rivals now airing the same game at the same time.
On top of that, if current bw pros switch, will they only be limited to kespa league, or will they be able to particpate in GSL and GSTL. and vice versa. That is the biggest factor for me I think. if both can coexist wihout the current sc2 pros in Korea needing progamers liscence ( cause that would elimnate almost all current sc2 pros because the player pool is so big.
Thats my main concern. Would foreigners need progamers liscence's to particpate in sc2 OSL or something if they wanted to? in that case would be hard for any foreigners to play sc2 in Korea. which would almost kill the foreign scene because there would be a big seperation between Korea and us all.

I hope that OGN can help influence Blizzard into making SC2 a better game.

Why was this user warned? Its quite obvious that its a reality. Hell, in fact BW IS OLD.
I dont play sc2 at all after i bought it and i still love sc. Stating that BW is old is some form of... insult?
EDIT:

LR threads are going to be horrifying if this actually happens.
On my hand id warn this guy. It seems to be far worse than the other in terms of discrimination.
Hey just my 5 cents

You do know there's the exact same thread in the BW forums right? Why do you feel the need to come to the SC2 forums to say that?
I'm gonna wait for a warning on this guy, just as the other guy had because he said BW is getting old (protip: it's a 13-year old game, which is old for a game).

Sc2 is 3D, BW is 2D. Also I'm pretty certain Sc2 games are way more fun to watch (not necessarily as much skill displayed), and there is a huge viewer base for Sc2 which is also international.

Chris Rock once said:"People who have the most shit, get to say the least shit."
SC2 fans only stand to gain from this, while BW fans have everything to lose. Their frustration is understandable and just letting them have this to rant isn't really a big deal...

+1.
Why was this user warned? Makes no sense aside from someone being an abusive mod. Stating something obvious means receiving a warning? Sometimes I wonder.. sheesh.

Imagine Incontrol beating Flash....
Even in Inside the Game Incontrol said he's 1-0 vs Flash!!!

Yeah I mean look at the VOD's on GOM's site, the more popular VOD's have 100k+ views on them, I dont think anything in SC universe competes with that kind of viewership.
I think progression from BW to SC2 is a good thing, it's been 2 years since SC2 release, if we consolidate all the fans then we have a much bigger scene rather than basically an identical game being seperated. The BW pros who switch aren't going to smash against a skill ceiling; they will adjust to the new game's mechanics and the smart players (JD, FLash, Bisu) will survive, because their superior mechanics will keep up with the sc2 requirements, and when they arent managing 12 units at a time im sure there will be some epic displays of multitasking and strategy.
Saying that i'm sure there's some BW pros who will switch and fail because their main strength WAS their mechanics and were lacking in terms of creativity/starsense/strategy, which IMO in SC2 is like the main differential between a mid-level pro and the top ends.
BW has to die, its old now, the longer it takes the harder to adjust for the pros, let's be honest I'm sure alot of the pros still play BW not out of love of the game, but the fact that that was where their money was being made.
And BW die-hards, would you rather see Starcraft 2 or League of Legends become the mainstay eSports title in the coming years? If you answer LoL, you aren't as die-hard as you claim to be. Love thy grandson as thy love thou son and protect your own!

I don't think they cancel BW entirely that would be extremely stupid from a business point of view. BW still has more viewers/visitors than SC2 and a very strong fan community. Bisu, Jaedong, Flash still sell.
And here is one thing, people like Flash will never switch to SC2... don't be stupid. They currently make 10x-100x more than SC2 players and would rather stay in a popular sport like League of Legends - maybe as advisor.

The game industry is distinct from the esports industry. The influence of the game industry tugs us in the direction of playing lots of different games, whereas we should actually settle on one or a few exceptional games if we're to have a competitive scene with any longevity.

For those who don't know, Kespa manages esports in Korea with the blessings and approval of the Korean government. It seems that they see this is the time to convert the BW national sport to SC2. SC2 may become mainstream in Korea rather than underground (at least compared to BW) now .

When i read most comments in this thread, i am starting thinking that it would be a good idea to see combined BW/SC2 proleague. If both games will stay one next to other directly, then SC2 fanboys will see how incomplete SC2 is compared to BW ......

All great video games eventually fade to obscurity. We should be rejoicing that we are in a time when "e-Sports" are actively competing against each on a large stage. Newer games tend to be adapted to a reach a larger market. Competition leads to evolution, and the best games will be the ones who continue to pioneer this push into making E-sports mainstream. Broodwars did amazing things, but it's time has passed. Eventually SC2 will fade away, and it's successor so and so forth, let's just keep riding the crazy "e-sports" roller coaster and see where we end up.
