Can't say I've watched many BW games but even I feel bad hearing about it being scrapped...really wish there will be room for both games to grow n prosper!!

Ask and you shall receive.
This is pretty much a copy of the one posted earlier in the BW forums.
You'll have to learn to cope with everyone.

They hope it will save SC2 in Korea. By eliminating BW, they are hoping that the BW fans will switch over to SC2, especially if the players end up switching.
Of course, most of the BW fans will probably just switch over to being LoL fans.

last hope to
A: finally kick of SC2 in Korea B: save the dying proleague

why would they switch to LoL(lol) instead of sc2? i dun understan

I would rather they kill off sc2 and just stay with brood war. Maybe remake brood war or expansion for it to shake things up.

I supposed this is due to decreasing popularity of SCBW in Korea? I feel bad for the decission, but if the popularity is decreasing, it means rating will also decreasing. When rating is bad, sponsor will surely leave the show. I don't know the actual rating in korea, and what's general korean opinion is? Just my 2 cents. I wish I can go to s.korea this year to see it live before they close it. It will be better if they keep it going though (SCBW).

As much as I love BW, it is time for change. I mean, don't phase it out in two. Maybe four or five seasons, or more.
But honestly SC2 is where the money is, at least for Blizzard, and it's also where they have room to innovate (HoTS and LoTV). Killing off SC2 and expanding on BW is like asking Ford to kill all of its cars and stick to producing the Model T.

Hmm maybe this question shouldn't be in this thread but i'm gonna ask it anyways! How big is BW in Korea these days compared to when it was as most popular? Measured in amount of viewers etc...

Not everyone wants to switch man. Some players said they would like to switch to something else instead like Stork and some just want to retire and move on to different things.

Much stronger following than SC2. You can check the BW forums for TV ratings of previous events. Simple search would suffice.
From liquidpedia: Finals for Starleague now regularly attract more than 50,000 fans, and viewed nationwide on television by millions.
The whole 50,000 fans is a little off. The page was last updated on the 12th of Feb 2012. The last Finals did get over a million people watching on OGN. I forget the exact number and I know we had a thread about it in the BW Section with the age group bracket as well.
Last night the house was packed and the Korean audience was rocking for Khan versus KT. In twenty-one minutes I expect the same.

Having a sc2/bw proleague is like shooting sc2 in the foot, it will make the bw crowd hate sc2 SO MUCH It'll be insane.

Im not exactly sure its like that car analogy because brood war is in all aspects the deeper better designed game. I could argue if brood war was updated with new shiny graphics, bigger control groups, auto mine, and some things like that its still the better game even if its then different. Starcraft 2 is just more popular because its shiny and new with modern features which could be added into a redesigned brood war. Expand upon the better designed game instead of trying to polish a turd. Its pretty obvious Blizzard has no idea what they are doing trying to balance starcraft 2 or even with design decisions in the beginning. Brood war turning out so great was a fluke they can not replicate without duplicating.

Despite not personally being a BW fan myself, I am in no hurry at all to see BW phased out. That said, I very much suspect that if the Proleague folks are considering getting rid of BW completely, it's due to declining viewership, even in Korea. If it were continuing to be as successful as it has been, they'd be fighting hard to retain it.
As far as a shift to SC2 (with or without BW) I'd have to say that it's a great thing for the non-Korean SC2 community. It'll mean more opportunity for English-language casters as they chase the market, and more opportunity for players, since having non-Korean players in the league is a must for sustaining their appeal in the rest of the world. Plus, for the viewers it may yield a higher level of play depending on who switches over and how they adapt.

Showmatches would be much, much better or just going with a full-blown SC2 PL. If you're going to scape BW from PL. Do it with dignity and make the competition pure.

The problem is attracting new sponsors. We've seen a lot of ties severed within the last few years. It's been very hard for them to find sponsors.

Or it will turn lots of heads because people will see SC2 instead of hearing about it. Milkis said in another thread that Koreans were open-minded to SC2. Probably the same reason so many of them are picking up LoL.

LoL has incredible accessibility. As it stands right now SC:WoL doesn't have that at all. From the payment options for PCBang and having accessibility to your account to the new B.Net 2.0. There's a lot of logistic issues.

It's just that we always compare the original, in this case BW. If SC2 is different from BW in any way, someone's going to say that difference is a bad thing.
Also, BW has been polished for 14 years now. SC2 has slightly one and a half. The "magic patch" that almost perfectly balanced BW came in 2001, 3 years after the game was released. Not to mention there's still two expansions to account for.
