Then you're a noob traveller  I travel to tournaments (poker though, so no peripherals I guess), unless you're bringing your monitor I can't imagine you can't fit everything in a carry-on + backpack.
Besides the convenience to embark, you don't have to wait on the carrousel at departure and are more free to move around if you get lost in Germany.
edit: once I got to the airport 5 min after departure, the plane was a bit late and they managed to rush me in because I didn't have any luggage to dispatch. And I didn't even check-in online, if so wouldn't even have noticed a difference.

But I'm the person who flys like 6 times a month.. if I leave that early everytime I would waste so much time. 2~3 events 4 ~6flights forth and back

No its not because I missed the flight. I think its because that is only available seat and he didn't want me to wait again until the last second so someone who has membership card can take my spot again

Phoenix to Austin, that looks konda close on the map, why don't you just take a bus or something? Yup, 15:27 travel time by google maps North America is so amaznigly big! Guess we are quite lucky here in Europe - if you miss a flight, there is almost always a spot on another. Spending time on airports sucks big time, I know what I am talking about!

What did you do instead with the extra 1-2 hours instead of leaving 3-4 hour early ? I recommend just winning every tourney and getting a personal jet like Nestea though. GL in tourney!

I try to only ever travel with a carry on and I've definitely gotten on a flight only like 20 minutes before it was leaving with online check-in + carry on only.

There is always spot for here too as well but I heard flights were delayed so all the flights were overbooked they said. Unlucky that I'm going thru phoenix..... If it was going thru other state it wouldn't have hapened I guess
