but when the Proleague starts featureing SC2, then why wouldnt players like flash switch over? theyd keep there salary and if they can become good enough in SC2 they can start ripping apart foreign events and have hundreds of thousands of people cheering for them and get the huge checks, for them its a win-win

I have the impression that KeSPA is tasked with finding huge sponsors for BW events like OSL hence names, for example Jin Air Starleague. These events are also sent on TV by OGN. So exactly where in this process does KeSPAs money come from?
Kespa is a non profit made up of the BW sponsors. The Sponsors make money through advertising. OGN makes money through selling advertising space.

i think pplz are jumping the gun here with this being the last of bw. Its more along the lines of intro sc2 to mainstream media. that being said, this is a time where they are transitioning sc2.

When contracts expire, they can choose to re-sign or not (or negotiate further). The reason the "higher up" players don't want to leave is because they have popularity, fame and money from BW. You think players like Flash, Bisu and JD, who are insanely popular and good at the game, and make ~$200-350k/year want to jump ship to a game where their success won't be guaranteed and most players don't even have salaries? this isn't a conspiracy.

and what happens when they can keep the salary they were getting for playing broodwar, and start winning the prize pools of SC2?

Plenty of players (Stork and Hydra come to mind) have mentioned the big reason they play BW is because they love the game, not necessarily because of money.

Why would for example SK-Telecom a Korea centric corporation sponsor SC2 like they've sponsored PL this season? If no one sponsors PL, would OGN have a turnament which people can buy subscriptions from?
I'm not saying that x or y will/not happen. I'm just throwing my thoughts out there.

so bw players get paid on contract and doesn't really matter to them if they play bw or sc2. if their team tells them to play sc2 instead of bw, then they will unless they chose to retire. this definitely means top tier bw players switching to sc2 imo.
|
It's really too early to talk about anyone switching over, or either scene dying. The most likely scenario in the short term seems to me to be many of the BW teams opening SC2 divisions (like some of them have Kartrider, and whatever that Korean knockoff of Counterstrike is, divisions). To get players, they'll probably do some combination of recruitment of new players (there are still a lot of up-and-coming teamless Korean SC2 players, if Korean ladder is any indication), having some B-teamers switch over, and perhaps buying out some of the smaller current SC2 teams. Basically, we're probably looking at a gradual consolidation of the Korean BW and SC2 scenes, with both games remaining alive indefinitely.
Obviously, long term anything can happen. But it's inconceivable to me that Kespa would completely abandon a still-extremely-popular-and-totally-awesome BW scene right now. We still don't even know the shape of any of these proposals.

If a sponsor wanted to negotiate with a player and offer them a lot of money if they switch after their contract ends then maybe they will choose to, maybe they won't... just like now. This line of "has anyone considered BW pros want to switch over to SC2 to make more money?" is no different than the status quo we've had thus far.

That's easy to say while making 100k a year. I have a lot more respect for the lesser players who still play while not getting paid in that regard.

I think it that IF players like Flash switch over, EVERYONE will be dissappointed because as much as Flash is an awesome player, I bet SC2 would crop all the skill difference between a god and a common pro player and Flash would be just another good pro.
I wholeheartedly hope that SKT, KT and co. only send their B-teamers to SC2, that should be enough to be a tip top SC2 team.

its so sickening to read frustrated "bw diehards" aka loud-mouthed brat minority terorizing the 95% of other people on TL (this includes majority of bw fans also) with their "opinions" - creating artifical but very noticable hatred/rivalry between "two" games and their respective communities - over and over again.
because they can, because "their" game was first, and because they were the TL that was. today's TL, for better and worse (mostly worse), wouldnt exist in this form and popularity without SC2. sorry.
i love broodwar, there are broodwar fans that love wings of liberty, so get fucking over it already, it is getting old. (pun intended)
