Idra saying you have to excuse yourself for playing terran and what more is all not conributing to making terran popular People who play in lower leagues dont choose the easiest race,it amazes me that people dont see this. Even pros dont choose the strongest or easiest race, else everyone would be playing the same race. I remember morrow switching to zerg from terran when terran was still considerd the strongest race and zerg the weakest People choose the race they like, the race with wich they can identify themselves and wich is they think is "cool" Terran just does not have the x factor wich zerg and toss do
this, and the numerous bad comments you get for playing terran during games on battlenet...is the main reason less people play terran i think. Its nice to talk about balance but balance is not the cause for everything occuring><
ya terran is getting harder to play (marginally, like annyone below diamond will ever notice the reduced emp radius lol) No this is not the reason for less people playing terran
I chose to play Terran, because I wanted to play the good guys
Why would you choose Zerg or Protoss? You are living on earth goddamnit, act like it!

I have noticed that most of my T friends have one by one switched races, most switched to zerg and one to protoss. Have not picked up on any common reasoning behind it but it's hard to find terrans for some teamgame combos I'd like to try.

Terran is certainly the hardest race to play. It's also one of the most rewarding (I.E. korean terran dominance).
But 99.99% of gamers don't care about long term skill investments.

I'm still Terran from day 1 because Zerg and Protoss are both slow and boring.

But why does 1 race require an immense amount of dedication just to achieve master+, whereas the other two races can achieve the same ranking with a much more casual approach? Major flaw in game design and doesnt look like blizz wants to fix it

Nothing more to it.

Unfortunately, Blizzard seems to not care at all about lower levels than Masters. The design of Terran in SC2 is the same as it was back in BW. You are gosu or chobo. Nothing in between.

Terran is a very, very frustrating race to play and requires insanely well rounded builds to compete on higher levels. I'm not saying Protoss and Zerg are easier to play, but I think Terran is just more mechanically demanding in terms of what you have to do.
Zerg and Protoss can play a very reactive-based style, while Terran usually can't.

I started as a bronze Terran, got plat by playing a lot of one-base all-ins. Over the time the map pool changed and my attacks just didn't seem to get the job done... also, I felt that TvT was a bit dull (and took way too much time).
Then I switched to random, I played various aggressive builds with all races, I also did quite a few zerg macro-oriented games. On the way I got demoted to gold and then promoted back to plat. After a couple hundred games I've found out that still, T is my favorite race so perhaps I'll try to actually improve it...
So I've been playing T for season 6 and TvP felt just ridiculous... I switched from one-base all-ins to pressure/expand builds. And man, do my TvPs end badly. The toss splash just melts my army in a matter of seconds. It is really frustrating, trying to hit perfect macro for 15 minutes just to get the whole army killed in 5 seconds.
And the outcome is... I got demoted to gold again. Oh well, at least I can win some games now. I just won 10 in a row and got rank #1, go me
Still, laddering as Terran feels like an uphill battle... but this is what makes it the most exciting race to play... and watch

I think a good reason for there being more terrans in lower leagues (Bronze) is that most new players to the game would pick terran. Whether it be because the campaign is terran focused or just due to the fact that terrans are humans and would seem more natural to pick. This is assuming most of them dont really know about the current state of the game balance and playstyle wise.
Also in the higher leagues a lot of people start switching from terran once they get more in the starcraft scene cause terran has a lot of bad rep with them and is considered uncool to play. I know I have felt that a lot being raged at just for playing terran. Ofcourse all the patches constantly nerfing terran dont help aswell.

Im a diamond terran player, been stuck there for about 4 seasons now. I just cant seem to take that next step into masters. For many of the reasons that have allready been stated in this thread, it just feels so damn hard to play terran at this level. Lower levels have it easy, before tosses figure out how to forcefeild and zergs figure out how to scout you. In my experience anything higher than plat means that terrans really have to be on their game in order to defeat seemingly less skilled zergs and protosses.
|
The evolution of maps also made a huge difference. Terran was that race that got the easiest wins in small maps and when close positions existed.

Another ladder session, another <20% win ratio vs Protoss (and I've been focusing on TvP for weeks). I had a guy make a bunch of manner Nexus vs me today after a 35min TvP where I tried my ass off the entire time. I watched the replay and he had 60 APM, I had 150. Its moments like this that push me further towards race switching. Losing to some arrogant little punk making manners Nexus acting like he's done something noteworthy when he has no army control.
I know APM isn't everything but its clear to see Protoss requires less APM and control in general to succeed at my level (600 Masters EU)

I play Terran because Zerg macro is too repetitive, and Protoss is boring (do the same thing all three matchups) I'm thinking of quitting Terran because of how TvP works.

Terran is the least represented across all leagues except bronze. Lower league is considered everything under masters

I play Terran because whenever I got Zerg while playing as Random I was like "Should I lose on purpose?". I've despised Zerg ever since the New Gettysburg mission in Sc1.
|
I am Terran from day1, even played terran in BW (was absolutely shit, like really, really bad), but with the way TvP works I just can't enjoy playing this race anymore. I now play Protoss on my second account and that's pretty much all the SC2 I play at the moment, I find protoss to be much easier and less stressful to play and definitely more forgiving. let me just say this, it's alot harder to lose your army as a protoss when you miss micro your units.
Right now, I'm seriously thinking about permanently switching to protoss, it's less fun but I win more often and find it alot more relaxing to play. I know my username wouldn't make any sense if I switch to protoss, but hey for me terran is pretty much dead.

I've been a zerg from launch, then last month i started playing random, and at the moment i'm playing only terran. i think alot of terrans where just cry babys once their bullshit strats got figured out or nerfed (like they should of been).
terrans still a good race, and they're still easy to play tbh.
was a diamond zerg getting 50/50 of my matches against masters before i switched, now i'm a plat going 50/50 against diamonds as terran, and it's taken me about 3 weeks to get to this state.

I agree, its getting tough to improve TvT. I am a mid level diamond..
Last season I played 428 1v1 ladder games, with my opponent breakdown: T: 89 times (20.8%) P: 160 (37.4%) Z: 179 (41.8%) **note that I keep my own stats in excel because blizzard doesn't want me to know my record for some reason
Thats a pretty big sample size, so its crazy to think i would play twice as many Z's as T's over the course of 2 months. The average should be 143 each, so thats over 50 less games of TvT experience if it was an even distribution. As a result my highest win rate is against Z, which makes sense bc I play against Z a lot more than they play against T.
To look at it from another angle though, a good buddy of mine is a zerg player, and he has been playing less and less 1v1s because he's always hitting ZvZs on the ladder... which less face it, isnt a very fun mirror matchup.
"Protoss is always a tough matchup because its much easier to split an army in half with forcefields than it is to spread your army and land accurate emp/snipe" --DeMuslim

Laddering as Terran can be grueling. Every time you're matched against another Terran, you make a decision. Is it worth it to play Tank Wars for 40 minutes, to maybe get a win? Or do you say fuck it and all in.
Terran micro is more demanding, period. There are not many times when you can leave your units to do their own thing. Banelings roll in when you're unseiged? GG.
