I couldn't agree more with the OP.
The interface leads to a very lonely existence while playing the game, as well as being very counter intuitive. The only way i've found i can mitigate that is by asking anyone i find that i like if they have skype. lol. Everything needs a complete overhaul.
gogo blizzard fix it in time for HOTS

How many of us literally have only played sc since it came out? How many of us are going to play starcraft for at least the next 5 years? Considering most 'good games' last a month, SC, WoW, WC, all of blizzard games are just beyond amazing, and beyond anything else out there. The only games maybe close in quality is CounterStrike or Halo. There's probably less than 10 really, really, quality games out there, even if you were to be liberal with what is 'good'. The lack of perspective from some people is just ridiculous. As 'shitty' as SC2 is, I, among many others in here, will no doubt buy HOTS, and love it. Even with crappy UI or chat (and is it really that crappy? or just below your expectations?). SC, WC, Diablo(1-2) and even WoW to some extent were all developed by a completely different Blizzard (Blizzard North). Only the Diablo series was developed by Blizzard North.

I agree so much with everything said here and on the bnet forums.
Its kind of disheartening, cuz you know they did a piss poor job, THEY know they did a piss poor job, and yet BOTH of you know they aren't going to change SHIT until HoTS at the EARLIEST (and who knows if theyll even change anything then) because they already took your money so why should they give a shit.
Blizz used to be THE dream company. I never thought it would be possible for them to faulter, throughout my life Ive seen companies fuck up or just be mediocre but never blizz... until now. I can see the corporate greed and its frankly depressing that the favourite game company from my childhood has now turned into the metaphorical prostitute.

An SC:BW or SC2 remake mod for Dota 2 will finish off Blizzard.
EDIT: Modders of Valve games are so brilliant. I remember playing countless of them during the era of HL and CS. Imagine where will it take them with Dota 2 engine.

after reading that article I can honestly say FUCK YOU BLIZZARD

That.... actually brings up a valid point. I mean, if theres a modder out there who took the time to recreate BW/SC2 to have the exact same gameplay, then the question would be raised "On what platform do we play on?"

I don't want or really need LAN myself. What SC2 needs to be an actual esport is to have tournament LAN, at least at the big tournaments. To me, that is what is really needed.
You also have to give everyone LAN mode to practice on, if you use LAN in tournaments. And by everyone I don't mean pro players, since that gives them an unfair advantage over amateur players/anyone who don't get to practice on LAN. Everyone would need to have LAN access to create a level playing field(ofc if its an invitational tournament, all the invites would get access, but big open tournaments like MLG, who would probably benefit most from LAN, would not be able to do this).
There are tons of casual players who could also benefit from LAN. Its such a pain to have a LAN party on my campus when the internet is basically dog shit.

This is taken from the european forums and made me think twice of what D3 will become:
Just went through Bashiok's (the community manager of D3) recent Q&A on Twitter. Even though this is D3 it's still the battle.net 0.2 platform, and it should represent Blizzards current stance on it. Some user "@Bashiok could you elaborate a bit mor on why exactly blizzard thinks that a general open chat channel like inn D2 or SC1 is a bad idea? Bashiok: "@CaptRaven The good is minuscule compared to the bad, and we have to actually support these things..." Some other user "@Bashiok any plans for any guild/clan features?" Bashiok: "@Millerjoeblue We'd love to offer some kind of support for social groups, but it's on a wish list at the moment." And again "@Bashiok I have a question about friends and chat in D3. Is it possible to add someone to a friends list? Also, is there a global chat?" Bashiok: @Varastus21 Yes there's multiple different types of friends lists. Global chat like you want to spam all your friends? no." And again "@Bashiok thats a bummer wanted to ask when the EU beta keys were coming . But a real question, can you play Diablo 3 offline?" Bashiok: @QuriousAlonsus No. And again "@Bashiok thanks for your answer. so chat channels are still part of the game?" Bashiok: "@kultbot They're in there right now. Unless people are expecting general open channels? We've consistently said we won't have those." Hello arrogance and Blizzard out of touch with the community. I know for sure that I am not buying D3 or HotS until you get your stuff together.

By all means get things going on Facebook and Twitter, but don't bother with petitions. Blizzard is known to ignore them and has even banned them from their official forums.

Bashiok's tweets have been linked in the OP for a while now, but it doesn't hurt quoting them again. They really make you think again.

The modders are awesome, they always try to make innovative games. When you look at it, one of the most popular competitive games, DotA, has been created thanks to modders, imagine if they didn't start those projects in the WC3 editor, LoL, HoN and DotA2 wouldn't exist today
Imagine if those guys manage to make an interesting 1v1 RTS mod, I would totaly try it out

be it lan, chatrooms, bnet2.0, prevention of cross-server play, microtransactions, poor/no mod support, online only play, whatever.. blizzard is not a democracy. the people calling shots in there these days are businessmen, not gamers. businessmen don't talk (much less answer) to customers, but shareholders. from a business standpoint as long as the game is good enough, you can dump a truckload of shit on your customer's head and have him haul ass to the store to buy your game :/
kind of depressing that though i know i'll love playing hots, i'm going to have a hard time getting to actually play it because of being shit on. i guess it helps a bit to know nobody else actually making the game (insider info!) feels good about the way bnet2 is handled either. here's hoping somebody tells the businessmen that, they'll never see this thread

While it is absolutely true its mostly 100% about the money, I feel your look on this is wrong. They cant ignore us forever, they wont and blizzard DO care if we want stuff. They will implant name change because we asked them to. Same with the old time when we had no chat channels , we asked them for it.
Same thing now - but bigger. We want a really big improvement, and we got our reasons. BN.et 2.0 sucks balls and I assure you it will get fixed by blizzard if we just keep protesting and making them aware of this big problem.
Keep a good spirit

Keep a good spirit they'll probably cave in with some fixes to its flaws (called new features with an exclamation mark and big letters) _eventually_ but i'm kind of doubtful of seeing anything reaching the level expected for year 2002 much less 2012+ ever
keep in mind we're talking about the company who designs a game with esports in mind - with no lan support and many pro games being ruined by it, and claiming recently LAN is time investment-wise too challenging to develop now (which is a straight-faced lie, cheers dustin). beating a dead horse there but to me that just perfectly encompasses a disregard for esports. just as no real dev level community communication (in or out) other than through some forum moderator and a patch change reasoning post before balance changes shows, to me, disregard for the community.
dunno if i'm being a doomcaller, a pessimist or a realist but i'm drawing a blank trying to think about good things to say of acti-blizz of recent years. not very hard to think of the bad stuff.

If I don't see any UI improvments in HOTS then I'll be less inclined to buy it, the only reason why im playing WoL on and off right now is because I have it and when I bought it I had a ton of friends to play with where as now when I log on I just feel lonely like there's no sense of community.

I said this on the EU forums, but I'll post my opinion here as well:
This is shockingly bad from a bigass company like Blizzard. The implementation of these features can't take more than 1 month of work, concidering they just need to copy paste them from WC3 and give them an SC2 skin, it's their job for gods sake!
Hell, indie companies which is like consisting of 2 - 5 guys working, are doing more for their community than a multi-millionaire company! Terraria is my best example: they've been patching the game with small intervals with the size of entire expansions! And a lot of the new features are from requests arising on the forums. When something's up they always answer fast, too!
This is beyond lazy and i'm utterly dissapointed!
