Dont get me wrong, I'm here 99% for SC2 and I'd be lying if I said I wasnt excited by this. But from most of what I hear, all viewer numbers are still in SCBW, all sponsors are there, vast majority of fans still follow SCBW over SC2. Mostly everything seems to point towards SCBW just being a lot more popular. The one thing SC2 has going for it is the international scene which really only is available for the absolute top and profitable for very few players, as well as obviously the potential of growth (better jump on the train now before it goes too far too catch).
But still, so if I was the head coach of a team or some other powerful individual in the Korean SCBW world, why would I want to switch? Or is this whole talk about SCBW being more popular bullshit and SC2 is doing well compared to BW? I think the international effect is really understated. Korea isn't that big, and BW doesn't exist anywhere else really. Maybe not as big of a point, but a lot of players like traveling. SC2 gives young korean progamers the chance to travel around the world to a bunch of Amazing places. BW really doesn't. Teams are dropping out of BW because of sponsorship. Maybe the sponsors are looking for something new. Something they can use to advertise around the world. Companies like LG, Samsung, Hyundai, and Kia have way more to gain sponsoring SC2, these are brand names people recognize everywhere. I think it might be difficult for some fans to transition, but it looks like the players are doing fine, the teams are up for it, and the sponsorships will be rolling in. BW is like a TV show that's run for a really long time. It might have a lot of die hard fans, but it's popularity is slowly being usurped by a newer TV show that isn't recorded on a wet, cracked, iPhone first gen lense. Teams dont Drop out of Esports not BW. so it isnt positive for SC2 either. and if Samsung would think like u im pretty sure they would already have their SC2 team and wouldnt support BW anymore. u have this LG Hyundai or whatever. they throw 50k in and that sit. nice sponsors. People need 2 realize that not BW is dying but Esports in korea. Esports can only die if sponsors can't make money off of it. Sponsors are making money off of SC2. The international companies I mentioned, again, have the most to gain. It's not about BW vs SC2. It's about money vs more money. well for me only Korea has real esports. the west has prize money hunting and nothing more.

It's not just "a new shiny RTS". It's the sequel to a legendary RTS that was considered the best for close to 10years.

Mentioning anything defending BW or SC2 in this thread really isn't going to end nicely. Become eSports fans instead of StarCraft fans for a moment and think about it, this is exciting.

yes that's kinda my point

only because Blizzard added a 2 after the name

A year ago I would have jumped with joy to read this.
Now I'm not so sure I like it at all.

Well, it's happening and we'll just have to accept what they decide to do. I'm pretty sure once OGN starts broadcasting SC2 with their supreme team of casters/commentators, SC2 will be even more exciting to watch.

although if you think of it,this could make SC2 grow into a good(great) game, but it involves a lot of Bisu-esque whining, plus its long term but hey ultimately it has a chance of happenening

Top players most likely won't switch because their salaries are big right now. But lower tier / b-teamers probably will soon enough. But as someone said already, would make sense for the teams to be transitioning their B-team to SC2 and let the A-teamers play broodwar.
This would be the scenario that makes more sense. I'm pretty sure BW still has a huge fanbase in Korea, don't think the people would be happy of everyone made the switch to sc2.

Hmmm, BoxeR's waiting for SKT. SlayerS_SKT.

E-sports, if it succeeds, will eventually stabilise graphics-wise, because there's a point after which people don't really care anymore. BW is not that point though, since it isn't even HD.

Flash playing SC2 terran is a truly scary image. Jaedong will probably need a little more time to adopt to zerg. As NesTea once said, you need to lose a shit ton with that race to be good. Not sure how Bisu & Stork would do tbh.
Oh, and please don't turn this thread into BW vs SC2. PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF JAEDONG.

wait a minute, does this mean IdrA won't go to korea anymore,or at least not participate in KeSPA events because I recall him saying that he never wants to involve himself with KeSPA anymore(or something like that).

Omgomgomgomgomgomg.... Flash playing SC2 Terran makes me want to cry. Although Jaedong playing Sc2 Zerg offers me hope of a day with perfect creep spread, injects, and macro...
I'm quite pleased by all this.

I'm really confused. I though the sc2 proleague was supposed to invite SC2 players to come play in the proleague?! So are BW players supposed to play both BW and SC2 in proleague?
Edit. I think what the protoss race needs in SC2 is a BW P playing it. I think a lot of protoss players are stuck in 1 hotkey - one death ball syndrome. Even with chargelot archon most people play very scrappy, and all over the map.

While it would undoubtedly be good news to the SC2 scene, honestly the skill of BW pros would be wasted migrating. Skill transfer between these two games are hardly 100% which mean we'll never be able to see them in their best again =/

Nada did also say that a top Zerg switching would have way more of an impact than a Terran or Toss so I'm pretty excited if any of this does come to pass. Especially with HotS just around the corner.
Bisu will just 4gate like he did at blizzcon lol <3

KeSPA pretty much = Brood War pro teams + OGN.
I'm pretty sure they wouldn't organize a league and put up the prize money just so SlayerS and IM can compete for it. Obviously if they're organizing anything it's going to be for their own teams. In fact I'm not sure how the current teams even fit in, I guess we'll see.
