this is how i think the viper should be changed: it should come out the gate a detector, with the ability to use that spell to remove detection from itself and attach it to any other unit - friend OR foe. so for instance you could attach it to a unit further away from the battlefield and safer (queen or ovie back at home for defense), or you could attach it to say, an obs, so it's pulling double duty for you. naturally there would need to be some indication that this had taken place. or on a banshee. or just on an expensive unit that the opponent would have to really think about sacrificing.

i think as long as it stayed a one time cast spell and also removed detection from the viper that it would be doable. someone who's better at the game than me can comment on if this is ridiculously abusable or not, i just think it makes more sense intuitively than the way it is now.

I stopped reading that as soon as he suggested the replicant was useful as it could become a broodlord or a battlecruiser, both of which are massive and cannot be copied by the replicant.

As a result, I lost all faith in the poster's credibility at the second sentence.

Yeah, the radius on that thing seems crazy. Still, I bet you can focus them down very quickly.

Do they work near friendly building? If they don't, I am totally ok this these units.

Yeah, those units need to be WAY out there to work effectively and a group of roaches go knock them down.

That doesn't change the fact that you still need to pump 200 gas in order to get detection, not to mention probably taking longer than 17 seconds to hatch.

For the swarm lord I wonder how long the locusts live and their spawn rate because it seems you would be able to burrow these guys and wait for 2-3 waves of locusts before sending them in.

yeah. i imagine stuff like that will get tweaked during beta though. i'm just thinking of the seeming clunkiness of the mechanic itself as it stands right now.

You mean how a terran has to pump 100/200 to get permanent mobile detection?

the "swarmlings" they spawn have a timer like a broodling. you have to have them attack before the timer runs out so there is no stockpiling them........

But its not like we have infinite scans. If you are keeping up with dropping mules, then there is only a slim margin of time during which you have scans available. Not to mention the fact that you lose 270 minerals every time you use a scan.

Again with the conditions... you say "infinite scans", I say "detection, period". Please note the difference between "having detection, albeit in limited fashion" and "not having detection". We all know scan costs energy and MULEs are awesome.
