From MCs twitter just 30-some minutes ago. Now I'm not fluent in korean but it seems to me like he's really pissed about something, calling people "fucking thief" and stuff. Is it in any way SC2 related, or did he just get robbed or something? Anyone who speaks korean could maybe translate it? Also note that the tweets are in order from latest to earliest.
When we arrived in France, we met one Scammer and one pickpocket. The one scammer looked us and because we looked asian, he said that he would buy the tickets for us, and told us that it’d be 14 euro for one person and then pretended like he was buying it with his card and asked for money -.- after he took it out of his hands we found out that one ticket costs 1 euro 70 cents. And so we told him that since we didn’t ask him to buy it for us he should just leave, he just left.
We heard the train coming so we ran to the train and got on it but as soon as I did I felt that my wallet wasn’t there anymore. So I thought I lost it so I got off and looked for it, and a French guy pointed at someone and told me he took my wallet so I chased that person.
I ran after him like I was filming an action movie and he just go on the railway stupidly. And so I got on the railway and in disbelief I tapped him on the back. He looked at me and he was completely surprised. I think he was a noob pickpocket. And then he looked at me as if asking me what’s wrong, so I told him “My wallet”.
Then he was trying to get off the train so I grabbed him and I told him “You wanna fight me?”. And then I told him in Korean “You wanna fight me?” and grabbed his hand behind him, and then he says “Sorry” and he gave me my wallet. I was going to punch him in the face then I remembered that I was a foreigner.
And so since I felt that a lot of people were looking at me, I checked my wallet and then said “He fucking thief”. There was someone who recognized me and that person told me if I would like to go to the police but I said it was okay because I got my wallet back so I let him go. He ran away really fast at the next stop.
I’ve been in foreign countries a lot but this was the first time something like this has happened to me. I hope all of you become aware of pickpockets and scammers when you travel.

Switzerland and France get a lot of pickpocketers (and great musicians on the trains). Sorry to hear that for MC, hope he doesn't end up hating all of France for it (I would have smacked that guy fucking silly if he pickpocketed me)
I don't know if they lost any money from this crap, but, assuming that they didn't, that story about chasing the pickpocket was fucking epic. So. Cool.
I'm a really sorry for MC and Milkis, in these times I'm really ashamed to be French ... but still happy that'll be able to see them in person at ESWC.
Haha, this is awesome. I know pickpocketing is a huge problem in Paris (assuming they're in Paris?) from both personal experience and what friends/family have told me.
This is the first time I've heard of someone chasing the guy down and getting their wallet back though. BossToss indeed!
I don't know, everything just sound a little bit over the top to me. Well I don't know MC so I do not know if he exagerates stories or not (he is so much in the hero role in this story). On the other hand everything could also be true of course.

Am I right that continental europe means europe without united kingdom? According to the guardian London is top 10 in pickpocket http://www.guardian.co.uk/money/2010/sep/15/london-pickpocket-top-10 so there it isn^'t much better either. Maybe it is just the big cities in general, where this is a problem.

MC Fighting! Literally almost. That's actually super baller to like, realize you've been pickpocketed, then RUN AND CATCH THE PICKPOCKET. Super beast MC :DDD
Paris is a big city, always full of tourists, and as with all big cities, opportunists will take everything they get their hands on.
I've lived in France for a while now and knows enough to pretend that I don't see these people while making my way through every time I step into the vicinity of Paris. Grabbing a newspaper (if you're holding one, most people assume you're local, even if you're not Caucasian) and walking faster helps. Study maps before hand for all the trains you need.
There are a lot of french ppl who do this. When I was in Paris some weeks ago I met A LOT of them. Im happy MC solved the situation and uses his rage to win the tournament
Well as upsetting as this is, it certainly grows the legend of hte Boss Toss. He's not just swagger on stage, he owns pickpocketers. Now's the time to see a resurgent MC.
Someone in France tried to do the exact same thing to me with the ticket scam. He went through the menu of the ticket terminal acting like he was buying a ticket then acted like he was pulling a ticket from the machine's ticket slot, but it was actually an old ticket-- he didn't purchase anything, which we couldn't tell cause it was all in French. Luckily my friend saw his slight of hand, which I totally missed, and told him to piss off. Then the metro cops wouldn't let my friend leave and said he owed a fine of 500 dollars. He was like, "I don't have 500 dollars." The metro cop asked how much he had. He took his wallet out at which point the cop grabbed it, took all of his money, and said this is how much the fine is, which ended up being like 120 bucks.

I wouldn't really worry about it. So many people make such a big deal about which country things like this happen in, but to be honest it's really just chance for the most part. It could happen in almost any country and it just happened to be France this time, I don't really think it should be blamed at all on the country.
The one time I was on the Paris subway someone tried to pickpocket me. He was quite bad at it though all it took was grabbing him by the wrist and giving him the death stare to make him get the fuck outta there.
French people, what's up with the pickpocketing on your public transport?

Nah I think its more a French problem. If you read the thread there are only stories about this from ppl visiting france. Its really sad
This is very close to what I experienced in my three days in Paris. Had nowhere near those kinds of problems in Amsterdam, Copenhagen or Barcelona. The Parisian public transport system is just full of scammers and scumbags preying on tourists.
I really appreciate that his final message was simply for people to be aware of scammers and pickpockets when travelling, and not that France is full of them. Mature story-telling from MC.

though when i got scamed a man helped me. he was spanish and we couldnt talk in english nor in french and after some minutes of gestures and short words i found out his sister is married to a german and we spoke in german. end of the story: there are sscammers who "work" to scam tourists. but there are also a lot of nice ppl who help you
1) use one of those travelling mini-pouched which have a strap that goes around your shoulder. Tuck your wallet, passport, anything you hold dear. Then tuck it INSIDE your jacket.
2) have a fake wallet in your pocket, and stuff pitiful amounts of paper money in there(or just enough cash for you to use for the next immediate transaction)
MC you are such a badass what tools trying scam and steal you. I am sorry for the bad luck, such a shame people are like this..... Great story none the less, I like MC more for some reason...
The guy should be proud, he almost robbed a president :D All in all not really a big deal i think since it got resolved pretty quickly by mc, still a nice story with a happy ending ofc.
I've been to London, Rome, and Paris several times and in my limited experience I saw the police actively try to keep the gypsies, thieves and scammers out of the metros in London and Rome, well in Paris I got the impression they don't really give a shit.
LOL. I am now a bigger fan of MC than before. That was really awesome, I'm surprised he was able to respond just enough without losing it completely, I know I would be the one arrested for assault if I caught the thief actually and it really is hard to maintain your cool when you catch a thief.
dear mods, please let me say this unpunished: "cool story Bro" (cuz it`s true) =)
Imagine the (nooby) pickpockets face after MC tapped him on the shoulder and he turned around, just to see a human owl screaming at him "You wanna fight me?". #priceless #IwishIwasthere
What a baller, living in Paris, the most impressive thing for me is that he actually chased the guy down to the railway as that's where they hide when they steal but it's extremely dangerous and of course forbidden. No doubt he was surprised no one but Kratoss would chase him in the depths of Paris. Epic story lol.
Haha sick story man. You don't rob the kratoss protoss! Though it is kind of dangerous chasing a thief. Good thing he didn't have a weapon or anything and MC got his wallet back!
And so since I felt that a lot of people were looking at me, I checked my wallet and then said “He fucking thief”. There was someone who recognized me and that person told me if I would like to go to the police but I said it was okay because I got my wallet back so I let him go. This is the awesomest part. Some person in some metro in some part of Paris in some time of the day recognized that the korean being robbed was god damn MC. The Boss Toss. How fucking awesome isnt that? E-Sports hwaiting!!
Sadly France is full of Pickpockets. While i was there i got pick pocketed twice and was lucky enough to get the wallet back as a passing person grabbed it off the thieves.
YOU WANT TO FIGHT ME!?? hahaha oh MC why you so boss? But really this is a terrible story, Hopefully the Koreans will learn of the dangers of travelling in the rest of the world where people aren't as well mannered as koreans. It could have just as easily happened in america or anywhere else in europe, so i wont hate on france.
There are pickpockets everywhere idk why people are saying "hope he doesn't hate french people for this". Of course he doesn't this shit happens everywhere all the time.

I was waiting for the M. Night Shyamalan-esque twist in the story. The thief turns out to be the guy that pointed out who the "thief" was to get MC to waste his time, while he makes his getaway unnoticed.
At one point pick pocketing was rampant in Amsterdam's public transport. Because they'd cut your pockets open on the tram/bus etc some people had empty wallets with just a "fuck you" note in em. Even if you kept your wallet in a different place, buying new jeans is pretty expensive too.
Why are there so many pick pockets in Europe? When I lived in Barcelona I had many friends that were pick-pocketed on the street. I've lived almost my entire life in the US and have never experienced this. On the other hand I do look pretty intimidating. ^ ^
I'm not really surprised. Paris gets six million tourists a year; you have to take special care when taking the Metro, especially during holiday seasons. I can imagine the hell it must be to have something stolen while not speaking the language. It's nice though that someone recognized him and offered to help him contact the police if he hadn't recovered his wallet.
Paris is a very beautiful city, but it falls victim to its success as a tourist destination. :-/
Edit:

This is impossible to see in a train station with hundreds of people walking around you. If you don't realize you're being pickpocketed, how will cameras even help? By recognizing the thief? He'll be long gone anyway.

Americans don't pack into dense crowds, Americans don't use public trans as much, Americans have a nonzero chance of having a firearm.

I do think this instance could have been a lot more serious had the pick pocketer had some sort of weapon in this situation. I really think some teams should really think about this in the future.

Security is extremely expensive. Especially in this situation. Having even a one-man guard for half a day would cost as much money as the plane ticket to France, maybe even more.

Also, most pickpocket do not carry weapons-- it's risky to do so. You use crowds as stealth and target tourists. Your main goal is to avoid any sort of confrontation, get the wallet or cell phone, and fade into the crowd. Ideally you go for people who don't speak the common language and to whom you will not look unusual.
A weapon doesn't make your pick-pocketing more successful, or your escape more likely, and increases your criminal liability.

Well ya I agree with that, but even if some of these events provided some sort of security or made sure some sort of greeter were always there to meet the players and give them a run down on what to watch out for, or even if teams were more pro active in telling players ways to stay safe.

In Europe it's kind of common knowledge that big cities have all kind of scammers, pickpockets, aiming for people who look like tourists. I won't walk around in Paris, Amsterdam, Rome with a wallet in sight.
If that doesn't happen in Korea's big cities MC couldn't have known. Shouldn't he somehow been warned for this kind of stuff by the tournament organisers, his team coaches, or other people who arrange his journey? Stuff that you should really know? Like when in amsterdam don't take a taxi.

Hurray for France! Giving me another reason to be ashamed everyday.
I lived in Korea for a few years, it feels like the safest country on earth. No one will ever attempt to steal anything even if you leave it unprotected. So when Koreans go to France, they should be understand that it's not the same deal!

why do you not take a taxi in amsterdam?
Same reason as in Mexico probably: good chance cab drivers will rob you.
france is known for the pick pocketing and scammers. Not like places in North America. Please MC, don't change your mind about traveling to different places to complete.
90% chance that he will rip you off, drives twice the distance neccessary, things like that. In the rest of the Netherlands taxi's are ok, in amsterdam they have a really bad reputation.

Amsterdam.. Last time I was there, I think I got off pretty lucky. Parts of my backpack had been opened when I was sitting down on a bench looking away for just a second. Luckily I had no valuables in the outer pockets. A friend of mine lost her cellphone around the same time though.

I wouldn't really worry about it. So many people make such a big deal about which country things like this happen in, but to be honest it's really just chance for the most part. It could happen in almost any country and it just happened to be France this time, I don't really think it should be blamed at all on the country.
Nah I think its more a French problem. If you read the thread there are only stories about this from ppl visiting france. Its really sad
Yep as soon as I read that, I felt like "Well man, welcome to France!!". The air is real bad right now. I would never steal anything from anyone, but I understand some of those kis (some only). Feel like the verge of destruction in some neighbourhood.

I took a taxi from the hotel to eiffel tower, and I had like one backpack with me. The taxi driver forced me to load the backpack into the boot, and I put it in, blissfully unaware that they charge extra for the putting stuff in the boot. Finally when he gives me the bill, I was totally pissed off, but had no option but to comply and give him the extra money. And I also suspect that he took a roundabout route to get to the place since the distance indicated on map and the distance that he actually drove were quiet a bit different.

Taxi suck ass in paris, but most of them are not the average French...
Every time someone steals MC's minerals with a scout from now on, I'm going to picture him getting up out of his booth, running over to them, and demanding his minerals back.
Nah I think its more a French problem. If you read the thread there are only stories about this from ppl visiting france. Its really sad
Nope, its the same all over Europe, i's just the fact that Paris is the most visited city in the world(and is more populated). It's actually the same people in every european capital that does that. They're like a mafia sort of.
Glad he got his stuff back but that kind of brazen action in a foreign country could lead to MC getting seriously hurt by a harder criminal if it hadn't been a pickpocketing noob.
Typical Paris these years. There are recorded messages reminding you to check for your stuff every 2 minutes in all public places. But those guys, they wait for you at the airport by the train ticket machines before you even realise you are in another country.
He was lucky to recover his wallet; it has usualy passed two or three different hands before you realise. Truly, that guy was a n00b, fortunately for MC.

Go to Rome or Naples and tell me that. Actually, they don't pick your pocket in Naples. They just ride by on scooters and steal your shit. Seriously.
And those are the nice ones.
Edit: Glad MC got his stuff back, without violence. Going to jail in a foreign country is horrible (not that I've been in jail).
No one is saying pickpocketing is only in france, in fact people would be very ignorant to think such a thing. But for those who visited france (more specifically paris) would know that pickpockets are much more prominent there then many other European countries (well, greece being an exception).

By same people I assume you mean non-natives (eastern europeans, africans, gypsies, etc...). Well I agree with that part, but in my limited experience (I don't live in europe although I did live there previously for one year) the difference between the metros in france and the other ones I went through was that the police did not give a shit and were not actively sweeping the place and kicking out the suspicious people. There were a lot more shady characters and a lot less police presence in the french metros. In Rome I even saw the Carabinieri drag a gypsy girl out by her hair, you can say there is some degree of racism since they tend to target minorities but they keep the metros mostly safe from thieves these days (past 5 years).

But in MC's case, the story didn't end there. He chased the thief and got the money back, which is the core of this story. No wonder you don't understand this, when you miss the most critical part.

Irony. Teddy Roosevelt is the President Koreans generally hate the most. Why? Because he legitimatized Japan's occupation of Korea. For good reason.
lucky he went up against a bronze noob. chasing after a guy is dangerous b/c for all you know, you could get stabbed. prevention is key and hopefully they learned that. tourists in foreign countries should always carry something like this and wear it under their clothes
When that thief turned out and saw MC going "YOU WANNA FIGHT ME?" in korean, I bet what his eyes saw in the backgroud behind MC was a fleet of carriers, voidrays and a gateway army charging towards him to join the fight and made him piss his pants. He picked the wrong person to pickpocket.
Funny thought though...imaging MC grabbing the french guy and going "SA OOL REH? JOO GOOL REH??"
it's a major bummer for MC. I'm glad he was able to...punch the guy in the face and get his wallet back??
But that's one thing that i was always aware of while traveling through france & italy. And frankly any place that has a lot of touristy spots (but esp. those since it's difficult to get more touristy than right below the Eiffel tower or the Colosseum). You've got to be aware of people trying to rob you blind.

Side note though almost any pickpocket who gets caught will give it up because at that point you typically get out of trouble just by giving back the wallet.

Unlikely. MC has to be at least approaching "national treasure" status in Korea. If the Jamaicans try to bury him they'll have hell to pay.
gotta love mc though as soon as he scouted and saw what happened. He charged towards his opponent, blinked right to him, stood tall and colosseus-like, gave him a gravitational beam stare down, bm'ed for a fight and when the culprit gave him his wallet, like the gentleman he is and also knowing that it's a korean vs foreigner, he gg'ed out.
haha, I bet the pickpocket thought this humble looking Korean guy would make an easy target... little did he know he was fucking with a super-star who would chase him down and call his ass out.
the best part about this story is "You wanna fight me?" because I had a couple of Korean friends in high school and they were all super good at Tae Kwon Do and loved to fight other guys, and I can totally visualize how he said it lol.

Sad but true, I see them everyday in the metro, i can recognize them almost immediately at first glance. The thing is when they are caught, they are pretending to be 13, but they don't have any ID card to prove it, and our laws forbid us to do anything against <15 i think. They are free 2 hours after getting caught, and they go on rampage again.

Not countries, cities. If it is big and has a lot of tourists, a general rule is to look out for thieves. I have heard several stories about thieves at train stations in Europe. Funnily enough, I have not encountered any thieves myself, and I have lived in Germany and Norway, and traveled around a bit in Europe.

From my expirience italy is way worse, I have been on vacation in france like 10 times now and I never got robbed, nor did anyone that went with me. When I was in italy we had to lock everything at night just to not get robbed, couldn't even leave the window open and it was fucking hot.

Can't say I'm surprised MC of all the people caught the thief. Huk is a very sneaky mineral thief with his probes, and MC is around him a lot. His PvP instincts just rose up the second he noticed the thief leaving with his minerals.

I don't know, but I'd imagine they perhaps carry more money in cash with them. Europeans can use credit and bank cards within the EU zone with basically no penalty, and they're easier to extinguish from the non cash Europeans than the Americans I suppose. Also they're perhaps less suspicious and aware of thieves and robbers.
I'm just speculating ofcourse, but that could be it Personally I've travelled a lot in Europe, and never been pick pocketed, held up or anything.

Most of the asian tourist are japanese, and the common thief won't be able to see they're not. Those guys carries a lot of money on them + expensive phones or cameras.
As a french guy, I know that when I take touristic metro/train/tram/bus lines (I mean from and to Disneyland, from and to the airports or near the center of Paris, where most of the museum and famous places are), I have to be careful.
Tourists and japanese in particular are not that cautious, and are easy to rob without being noticed, the transports are always full of people and it's easy to disappear in a big crowd. This one was a "chobo" as MC said he got lucky and I'm glad everything went all right.
Hopefully, ESWC and korean pros will be more careful next time. Not letting firsttimer all alone (or without a little briefing and tranport pass) in Paris for instance.
The city is safe, don't get me wrong, but carefree tourist are easy to rob.
that thief choose wrong TARGET Most people wouldn't even chase the thief because of the technique Phantom wallet, which is quite popular nowadays, you wouldn't even notice what happened

Haha, and the part about the girl not letting her daughter to take the subway is ridiculous. I'm not sure where the mother come from, but she is ignorant. I know some girls who fear to get out at some point, but most of the time they are rich girls who know nothing about the real world (some time ago, I had to help a girl to get to her house because it was too late for her (8 pm....) and the girl told me that she was really surprised watching couple kiss themselves in the subway. Sure : in some places, you gotta take care. Some of my friend got stabbed for nothing, and at some moment of the year you can easily get into a fight with some random frustrated guy full of alcohol. But that's late in the night, in few little part of the city and there are no subway at this point...
Mad props to him for being able to restrain himself. A lot of people would have knocked that little piece of shit out cold, pure instinct. Good to see he solved it in a decent manner.
I think a legitimately good idea would be to buy another (empty) wallet, put a note in it that says "rofl" and have it sticking out of your back pocket. Fight thievery with trolling.
Wow MC, sorry that happened to you. I was in France and something similar happened to me. France is really dangerous these days as is much of Europe with their huge recession and all. It sucks but that's just the way it is.
Well done MC.. Even he is in an another country he doesn't seem to feel uncomfortable for offending the home people. He is What HE IS.. MC 4 LYFE MUDAFKER!!!
Hahahaha what a bad ass. I love this guy. I can just imagine seeing him snapping out on some random retard on the train and the thief absolutely shitting his pants.
JMC isn't a small dude by any means as far as I could tell.

Hehe, Rome is still harmless compared to Naples/Napoli.
Awww I wanna go to Paris/Rome/Spain/England and German for once in my life. May be Sweden or Swiss too
One persons experience is hardly indicative from what you can expect. I actually felt the subway in Paris to be charming with the music being played (although the people weren't as friendly as in Lyon or other major French cities) and had no problems with Rome either. I stayed a month in both cities so while I don't travel there often I did get to know the cities quite well. Also Paris may be too big to walk around, but they have a wonderful bike system you can use and Rome is small enough you can just walk around to most places (of course this depends on the place you're staying).
Now that I think about it. What surprised me most about Rome is rather how safe it all felt, I walked around the city at absolutely ridiculous hours. Hours at which I should be looking over my shoulder in my own city (Rotterdam) and yet nothing felt threatening or dangerous.
Every european knows there is a good chance of getting robbed in southern europe if you dont watch out, but if you know what you're doing, you'll be fine... So go ahead and travel, even MC managed fine!
Noob thief indeed. Honestly for all the people worrying about a knife, it'd be really stupid to start a confrontation on a train with that, there's probably lots of people around. It's a good timing counter!
Unfortunately, there'll always be shit like this wherever you are in the world, but at least this is one case where everything worked out alright. I hope that that thief decides to call it quits.

How is that the moral of the story? If anything it's, don't pick-pocket angry Koreans and try to flee on a train.

Actually the moral of this particular story would be quite the opposite of yours. I mean, MC did get his wallet back without much resistance from the thief.

The french subway is a fucking nightmare. Those steel gates crashing together when entering the subway scare the living hell out of me. I feel like I'm about to be smashed into pieces every time they slam together an inch from my face :<

Glad everything is okay.
Paris is very different of the rest of France, there is more poor people and more temptation ( because of tourists)
A zerg player (Stephano's smurf ?) used his viper to hook MC's wallet, but a couple of forcefield along with zealot charge were enough to take it down. Gratz!
