You'll have to keep some iconic Brood War units for Starcraft II, then come Starcraft III you'll add some newly iconic units of the second installment, leaving you with just one unique unit per version of the game. A lot of players don't like hydralisks, because they are just a ranged unit without interesting mechanics. If not for its iconic factor, Blizzard could replace it with something cooler, but I guess that'd be bad. What's the point in even spending five years on a sequel to Brood War if we intend to simply keep all the core units of that game? I know Blizzard mostly did, but that's a mistake in my opinion. Replacing units like the hydralisk and the mutalisk with more engaging alternatives could make the game more fun to play and to watch, for only the cost of having to get used to something new. If any of the old swarm units are outdated it would be the ultralisk. It's funny that no one (as far as I read) suggested this unit that might mutate from a Hydralisk is going to replace the ultralisk. | ||

This unit seems to be that it will be a sc2 version of reaver given to zerg. It will be slow, have AoE and you will need to build its ammo. Maybe it will need to burrow before firing or burrow will be its special ability (like all ground zerg units have). It is kind of sad Blizzard is so without new ideas. EDIT: If I am right, I am sure many toss will rage and others will switch to Zerg :D | ||

Melee is already rather supplyefficient (so it behaves well around max), and all of zergs T3 tech is on Melee upgrades (Broodlords, Cracklings, Ultralisks). Zerg range however has no T3 unit at all and behaves extremly poorly when maxed, so it NEEDS another unit that is supplyefficient, else range stays a dead Tech in the lategame as 200supply range gets crushed by P/T. | ||

Instead we got roach and that got nerfed and now it sux. It did not get outdated because it was shit. It got outdated because blizzard designed it to be shitty. | ||
