I'm going to keep this post short and sweet. I'm going to be participating in another charity soon. How soon? Tomorrow. Tuesday, Sep 13 2:00pm GMT (GMT+00:00). Starting then, I'm going to be streaming for 24 + hours straight.
Alright Sheth, you say, enough with the streaming for charities and all, do something fun. Alright, this time around I'm going to be competing against some terrible Zerg from NA to see who can raise the most money. You might know of him, his name is "Inevitability", or "Predetermination" or "Fate" or something like that. Maybe it started with a D? Were both going to be streaming for 24 hours starting tomorrow at 15:00 GMT (+00:00).
Justin.tv has VERY VERY generously agreed to take the total from whoever makes the most for charity and match it. This is something that I think is exceptional. I really appreciate what JTV has done for our community. The charity of choice is none other then Doctor's Without Borders. (Yeah again, let's face it, they're awesome!) So basically I'll be competing with Fore-ordination (Is that it?) to see who can raise the most to help out a good cause.
Oh, I remembered his name. It's 'Destiny'. Anyone heard of him?
Graphics by Disciple.
And despite my flippant tone in the above I'm really serious about this event. It's my sincere hope that we will both have a great time streaming tomorrow. Also, it's my sincere hope that I win... for charity. Here are our two streams:
Now both me and Destiny have agreed to spend 24 hours of our time to help out charity, how can you help?! Well first of all, you'll have to choose. Team Sheth or Team Destiny. Then simply watching the stream of your choice will be great! If your interested in donating directly to the charity, you're welcome to. Head over to Doctor's Without Borders' Homepage and click the big red button on the top right. They do incredible work around the globe, providing quality medical care to those who need it most.
If your interested in having your donation assist one of the streamers simply ask the day of the event. I'm sure there will be a way for you to donate directly to DWB through one of us. This is so we can keep a tally and keep raising the amount we donate and thus the amount Justin.tv will help us with!
So again, tomorrow, Tuesday, Sep 13 2:00pm GMT (GMT+00:00) we will be streaming for charity. Choose a side, (mine is the only correct side clearly!) And join us to raise money for a fantastic cause. Show the world how awesome the Sc2 community can be!
TL:DR -- Me and Destiny are doing a 24 hour stream for charity tomorrow. Come hang out.
These events always amaze me. at least for me, its already really draining to stay up all night, but to play starcraft for that long, well i guess that could make it better since you are doing something you love. gl to the both of you! i'll tune in to both streams when i have the chance. or just leave my computer on. >.<
This will be awesome! was watching last time you did your 24h stream for charity, and I loved it =) both streams will be open ! kinda sad I wont be able to watch the hole 24h this time tho
I didnt't think it was possible for it to get any higher, but my respect and admiration for Sheth has risen once again. A great idea and looking forward to watching as much as possible. Team Sheth fighting!!
Time to run out for extra Red Bull, donuts, and chips/salsa so I can nerd-power through 24 hours of dual stream viewing! ... (Ok, I'm not that disgusting....)
Shethiny hwaiting!
P.S. Ooo... or Shestiny? Harder to type, but sounds pretty cool!
P.P.S. Maybe get it inserted onto Upcoming events, over there! ----->
i think im off work tom as well super excited!!!!!! GG son 24 hr stream of glory, ill have both streams on, i might even hook up a temporary second moniter just to have fun!
Well, I will be watching as much of this as I can, but you must understand I do need to worry about school as well. That being said, I will probably tune in for about 40 mins at the start, then resume watching after 5est.
I don't have the bandwidth/computer power to run both streams at once, so I will probably end up watching Sheth (unless Destiny has some ideas for more idiot-magnet overlords)
Sickest/Funnest way to raise funding for NGO's. I've been involved in the NGO space for a few years now and know the biggest players. There are so many stupid ways out there used to raise capital, and I like how this manages to both be entertaining and super effective from the donation-givers themselves.
WOO only one class tomorrow so I will only miss the first hour. I will have both streams open, testing out my new 50mb connection if it is ready by then.
You guys are awesome. I have to give the edge to Sheth, but I know Destiny has a serious lead in general popularity. I really want the most manner man in sc2 to win. I can say this since WhiteRa is not involved.
This is really awesome! I especially respect that JTV is willing to match whatever the winner raises, really cool on their part imo. So happy to see that SC2 players are working to give back, I think it helps legitimize esports in general. I will definitely be tuning in to see the hilarity ensue.

Sheth is such a boss! Destiny or Sheth... idk who to pick... Maybe I'll watch both. :3
The time for chilling has passed. Time to watch some streams. For charity. (I'll probably leave up both streams just for the sake of it, but watch destiny's stream : D)
This is awsome man! I loved both yours and TLOs previous events and to see you do this again makes me feel like I swallowed a bunch of teddy bears! Good initiative Sheth and Destiny!
Will be supporting both streams, for some reason I have a feeling it is going to Destezer vs Sheth. I might even try to keep up tomorrow for fun and as a challenge to myself. Love what JTV and the players of the community are doing for others, it is awesome.
In rough times this is great pr for mr Bonell. Also I don't know who to cheer the most for. To keep some pressure on I say I'll decide when I see what race Steven plays.
Lol I love how it's like a face off. Awesome guys I love how you're doing something for charity. Enjoy the streaming, I'll be tuning in for sure and digging them pennies out my sofa.
I hope it's 24 hours of SC2... Destiny's been streaming Deus Ex recently and- while it's pretty funny to watch him play that game- I'd prefer it if he plays SC2 >.<
That's the only way his stream can be as good as Sheth's! We need Kyle and Chad helping Destiny out for some Protoss play! And Destiny's crazy infestors
So logically we should all decide to watch just one stream now so all the money will be matched by Justin.tv? (rather than splitting the viewership) But otherwise, I'll be on Sheth. Awesome guys!

Logically we should all have on both, since some people will not see this thread and will watch only one of them without being aware of the other
Looks like the start time is 10 EDT in the first paragraph and 11 EDT in the second. Sheth is up and rocking but Destiny probably wanted to sleep in a bit.
I understand Destiny and Sheth are just cool guys doing this but getting no money for it, I wonder however how much JTV is making. I bet they're getting like double the amount sent to Doctors without borders.

Quite the opposite, they are matching what is made with their own donation as I understand it.
EDIT: quoted from OP on first page "Justin.tv has VERY VERY generously agreed to take the total from whoever makes the most for charity and match it."

I saw that, but I'm thinking this very very generous generousity might be them giving a fraction of what they actually make to match generated amounts. I trust Destiny and Sheth, but I see no reason why JTV should be considered generous.

PS. Need more Minigun!
You think JTV is not generous because they decide to match a few thousand dollars and donate it to a charitable cause, when they very well could have done nothing at all? Do you actually think JTV profits that much from having two popular streamers stream for 24 hours?
How can you even think that what you said was logical at all.

I said I saw that they would do that, but I'm saying perhaps it isn't as generous as you might think if that money is just a fraction of what they actually make from these two guys' streaming. Why is it illogical to think JTV makes a lot of money from their streamers, I have never thought of JTV as a charity site.

Maybe its illogical to come into a charity thread to spout cynicism about a charity event or rather those that are helping host it AND match donations...thats what Im saying, perhaps this isn't the place for that level of cynicism, Im sure there are many other threads in general where you can get your negativity fix.
Anywho back OT grats to sheth and destiny's paypal donations, over 2k total already woo!!

How much they make is irrelevant. They are giving money they otherwise wouldn't. Therefore, it is generous.

Whatever, I can tell my question for some reason offends you. I love Destiny and Sheth for doing this - for actually streaming for 24h and not making money from it. They're amazing guys, and their streams very entertaining. I'm just saying perhaps some company making a profit off of others' hard work don't deserve praise compared to the players challenging exhaustion and ladder cheese.
so funny watching destiny stream toss and complain about race imba. My favorite was when he said he would just get chargelot immortal against terran bio-ball and skip stalker / colo, oh god watching him try to hold the drop in his main was riotous, best part was when he couldn't figure out what to do and in the end he just let the drop kill a bunch of probes and structures, and allow his nat to die

Best first post ever.
Thanks for the entertaining streams, guys.
Damn. Never would've thought Sheth was such a sneaky guy! Good for him! ;-) Destiny on the other hand... He is destroying Sheth in stream numbers :-P
I'm torn; watching a Zerg play Protoss is always fun, but watching that same Zerg start to give advice on how to play Protoss and say how easy and strong everything of Protoss is based on his <100 games vs relatively bad players (compared to his GM ranking with Zerg) is extremely annoying. Oh well, he'll hit the ceiling hard soon and then let's see how he performs.
Don't take this the wrong way; if he consistently beats GM players with Protoss I will start to listen to his advice ("Storm is great against Roaches, guys") no problem ^_^ He's now approaching the top of his master division so I expect him to play better players sooner or later.

under 100 games? there has been more than one season you know. Also you learn a ton about races training that much about against certain builds/buildorders as he has done in the past when he was on ROOT for example

It's unrealistic. No one likes commercials. They're loud, obnoxious, and usually have music we don't like, or really stupid sales pitches none of us like the wording of. But for this event, even the most stubborn commercial hater should deactivate their ad blockers.

No, no, I understand it's not realistic, but I mean in theory that would be ideal, given that they seem to have embraced and fostered SC2 streaming and gaming streaming in general.

Using adblock while watching your favourite streamer hurts them more then you could imagine. If you're actively watching a steram, you can afford to get hear first second of an ad and click 1 button to mute it then alt+tab to read up or do something. Using adblock literally KILLS the reason streamers show advertisements in the first place...
The more people that use adblock, the less justin-tv etc will be inclined to run charities like this (I mean... the expected outcome will probably be at least 20k to match). But all using adblock shows is that you'd rather never see pro streamers who could use the income (which is why they run the ads) stream again.

I generally run an adblocker, but I have it deactivated on teamliquid.net, justin.tv, twitch.tv, and other websites I like and visit often.
Yeah, ads are annoying, but I'd be more annoyed if the websites I like to visit or streamers I watch couldn't afford to do what they're doing anymore.
I remember reading a post somewhere by this guy who said he selectively deactivated adblock for individual streams after deciding whether or not they were worth supporting. He apparently did not realize that by watching the stream he was implicitly validating its worth to him, which struck me as seeming excessively entitled for a consumer in his position. DO NOT BE LIKE HIM.
Disable the adblock, watch the commercial. Is thirty seconds of your time really that valuable when you are already spending it watching a progamer get ready to queue up on ladder again?

I often go a step further. If I enjoyed a specific streaming session, when it begins to wind down and come to an end I will F5 a few times to throw in a few extra commercials.

This question can only be answered by the viewer. And to me, yes it is. Thankfully I have a choice.

and demanding money for playing from your audience while you already receive a salary and winnings isnt being an entitled brat right? your point doesnt even make sense, it could hold value to him without being worth money. he can take it or leave it, but if its free he might keep it open for 10 minutes.
this whole conversation isnt even relevant to the subject. people should just concentrate on having a good time. some people will donate by watching ads, some will donate to charity in their own way. some people wont donate at all. but thats cool, because if it wasnt optional it wouldnt be charity, would it?

You have no idea how much these people make salary, and only a very few amount of people make money from winning tournaments. 64 player tourney, how many take top 3?............... 3! That means out of 64 pros only 3 get paid, and only 1 gets paid well. If you don't think these players deserve ad revenue you should probably just get the fuck off teamliquid and never watch progamers again because you are hurting the community by taking up bandwidth and not helping to pay for it.
Lets stop talking about adblockers and go back to talking about what a great job steven and sheth are doing. Almost at $20k, jesus that is a huge donation.

you never actually finished your point about salary 3 get paid? wrong i dont think they deserve anything. streaming even for free helps develop their name and team sponsors, its worth the massive effort of opening a program when they ladder.
I have a question regarding adblock, I have it on but have http://www.teamliquid.net/video/streams/Liquid`Sheth and actually teamliquid.net in general as an exception, but I still don't get any ads. Is getting ads at all country-specific or am I doing something wrong?

Yeah, some are area specific (for justin.tv anyway)
There's a reason I've never had any inclination to get adblock. It doesn't hurt me at all to let the ad run while i look at a different tab while i flip my volume off.

If this is the only place you visit that might work, I'd cry going around to other sites though without it. You can disable adblock specifically for certain pages or sites if you wish so I see no reason not to get adblock anyway.

I toally agree, surfing without ad block just kills it for me, i mean, i just unblock TL.net, and some streams, and voila, i can help support the right people, and not deal with the garbage adds on the net.
This has been an awesome event. I've had both streams open for 16 hours now (watching Sheth's side for 99% of it), pretty sad that it has to come to an end soon.
Awesome job, Sheth/Dest, would definitely do this again.
doesnt it make sense to just give Destiny all the money now since he is pretty much untouchable now? The winner gets their donations doubled by jtv and if we give Destiny all the loot then we get more bucks from JTV.

Not true, Jtv is only doubling the money they get from the stream, not donations, so just give money to whoever you want
I think it's important to note that the final dollars Destiny raised for the sick and disadvantaged to meet his goal was donated while he was killing various NPC women in Deus Ex :D
Hot chicks, PhoeNix legend, Cella Wella, Minigun going off in a huff, Destiny falling asleep at the keyboard, Random dude on skype BM'ing Sheth, Debo snoring on his stream.... This event had everything!
GJ Sheth, Destiny and all those who took part, really awesome amount raised for a good cause.

Wait did minigun get mad?
Well he vanished very quickly after losing 2-0 to Destiny.
Just woke up (again) and am very pleased to see Sheth still sticking to what he set out to do! Though I don't think anyone could argue that Destiny has ultimately earned more bucks for the cause, Sheth still gets mad points for bringing the manner and credibility to the event :D
Congrats to both of you! You've both done an amazing job, regardless of who raised more. You should both be really proud, as should the community be of you.
Also, everybody already knew what a great guy Sheth is, but to anybody who still thinks Destiny is just some immature asshole because he swears on his stream... this should serve as a notification that he is, in fact, a pretty cool, kind-hearted person.
Awesome shit Sheth, grats on 24/H and thanks to Destiny for sleeping on his keyboard while earning money. Sheth is just so nice, omfg... and I love the special guest appearance by WhiteRa
my favorite part of destiny's stream was how much he reminds me how my group of friends talk to each other. "shut the fuck up, sheth!" "what, minidick!"
random spurts of meanness but actually being endearing hahaha
It's really nice of Destiny and Sheth to do a charity event like this, this stuff makes starcraft so much more awesome. Huge respect to Destiny, Sheth and other renowned starcraft players for helping them and everybode had the hearth to donate something. ♥ ♥ ♥
Watched the first 6 or so hours, sadly I had to go to sleep and then work after that The best parts were the 4vs4, couldn't stop laughing when Sheth fake nuked Destiny's main (Kyle's negativity is killing esports btw)
Also all the series versus the pro players were pretty cool, mad props to them for participating (Phoenix is such a baller guys / What the hell ??? ohhhh destiny sorry sorry ! :D )
Remember, if you still want to donate (or couldn't because you had no PayPal, but want to via other ways) you can do so directly at https://www.doctorswithoutborders.org/donate. You can even tribute your donation to Sheth and Destiny !
my apologies then, i left a laptop at work with it running so was only catching bits and pieces and misunderstood. still props to them and everyone who donated. Not bad for video game players to pool that type of cash
This was great! By far the best Starcraft marathon yet. They made nearly $30,000 and that's not even including the revenue from commercials and JTV matching that. Grats to Destiny, Sheth, and everyone who donated for putting on a great show and I hope to see more of these in the future.
Congrats on the successful stream. The two of you stepped up the 24/h stream to the next level. Looking forward to the next person to attempt to raise the bar even higher. (looks over in Tyler's direction)

This was epic. Jesus, GTFO.
It is 24 hours of them doing their best to raise money. I tuned in and out of the streams several times and found it fun. At some point they are getting tired and it is about the marathon of making it 24 hours, it isn't about providing the highest quality entertainment possible the entire time. Also what you think is fun or not fun isn't the same for each person. I felt like they did a variety of things that some people might enjoy and some might not. A 24 hour straight program is not the format you chose to go with if total entertainment is your primary goal, it was about raising money and having a good time with it.
People like you make me want to blow up the internet. This post wasn't needed at all. They raised 30k to feed kids, what have you done today to help make the world a better place?

Cheating the system really isn't a solution. People/Businesses actually pay a lot of money to have their ads featured on Twitch.tv, and to honestly contribute I think it should be watched. Content and ads. Personally I think that's the way to contribute.
If people cheat the ad-system it will eventually become public knowledge and ads at Twitch.tv will become less valuable.
You guys kinda fail at watching if you didnt find it entertaining they had several good games on there and did quite a few customs for those people who aren't into the melee point of it. They also made some of the games public so some viewers could get in. If you didnt like it idk what streams you watch on TL but i dont see how many people could add more to a 24 hour stream about sc2

You're right but there's a difference between leaving the stream on while play a game or to go make yourself a sandwich then to leave it on all day. Nothing wrong to leave it in the background while you're doing something else. If anything the advertisement just get more into your subconscious without you noticing, lol ^^. But your point is still valid. Nevertheless people make money off TV ads and its not like people always close their tv when they aren't watching it...they still count as viewers that advertising company pay for. It'll take a lot of viewers not watching a stream for advertisements to equate in a loss of money, and besides there's no way they can prove it. Anyways.
I thought the event was awesome! I tuned in during the afternoon to see an awesome series vs nerchio and then some hilarious 4v4. I wish I could of stayed longer but off to work I had to go =(

Absolutely nonsense.
Also, there couldn't have been more than 5 different commercials the whole time.
I loved the streams and found it very entertaining. I even donated which I rarely do for charity streams. Also, as a protoss player I was more entertained than usual by Destiny playing protoss. I can't wait to hear what the grand total was.

My point is, that one should be careful with the whole; "I will leave the stream on 240p and never watch it", because in the long run, that might come across to the advertisers as negative.

Im not a fan of TLO, but his event was much more fun then this. Sorry guys.
Props for doing it though, and raising alot of money, thats great, but it wasnt my cup of tea
Well then, next time 240p the streams leave them up and running for ad money and don't watch. There's lots of ways for people to help even if they don't like the content. Great Job guys and to anyone out there who donated you don't need to watch a streamed event like this to donate. People donate all the time. Don't hold back!
IMO that is.
i agree with you partly, because it is morally wrong and i understand the frustration that would come out of the big advertising companies who found that their ads were just raking in money for charity and no one was watching them. But you have to look at the other points of view as well.
For instance, people could literally make a living out of this, making twitch tv even more viable as many see it as a way to make a living. We already know destiny does, but others who purely stream will have a better chance of succeeding if we just leave their stream on and they constantly play ads.
Also, another idea would be so you cant mute the streams, so the ads would keep playing in your minds all day. This would make the advertisers happy, and you wouldnt feel so guilty anymore
Finally, and most importantly, its not illegal, so we can do it ! loopholes are everywhere in the legal system , especially regarding the internet. Although they may take action in the future, we could provide living opportunities for streamers now, and give lots to charity now, by 'exploiting' (for lack of a better word) the system

I just red on reddit that some guy has tried to steal or stolen money from Sheths Charity Event. He posted a scam link in the chat and it seems like some people have fallen into his trap and instead of donating money to doctors without borders have given him the money instead. Here the reddit link. http://www.reddit.com/r/starcraft/comments/kfrry/asshole_who_stole_money_from_shethinys_charity/

I was trying to find some evidence of this happening, but I couldn't. Not that I don't necessarily believe it, I just don't want to.
Some of my favorite moments throughout my 24 hours of watching this Phoenix, man he can be so funny, and really BM, but in a funny way. "Oh mai gah" <- one of the funniest things ever. The Huge FFA with CombatEX, all I have to say about that is trolololo, lolololol and omg archon toilet. Destiny passing out, even though he crashed for like, 30-40 min, his stream still had 6-7k viewers, there were some pretty damn dedicated people who weren't going to give up. Destiny's chat, love that place always <3 Chad mother f'ing jones. It's not Hipster, it's Chadster. All the money raised. The BM The lulz Sheth always wanting to do Sc2 BW at the end And the last game with WhiteRa. Overall this was a great event, and I was glad to stick with it through out the entirety :D

I have Destiny's chat open in mIRC which logs all conversations that happen in the chat, I can confirm that a guy posted a link that imitated the actual link but would get people to donate to a different account.
Given the speed the chat moved, and the fact that the guy only posted the link once as far as I know, I assume the actual damage in terms of people donating to him was minimal, it however does damage the reputation of events such as these in general and makes people more weary to donate in the future in case they are being scammed.
God I hate scammers. I hope someone reports him to the police.
As much as I hate the guy, I don't think anyone should be posting any personal information that can lead to him being harassed in real life or even harmed. In the future people should be careful when streaming and make sure the mods delete any link that is fake. Also, if you are one donating, I don't see why you would donate using a random link posted in the chat channel. Both Destiny and Sheth put a the link to their paypal to the left of the chat, on the stream description.

At the end of the day, scammers also have to realise that it can have real life consequences, rather than simply some online internet world where whatever you do is what you can get away with.
If you don't want people to know in your real life that you're a scammer, don't be a scammer online.
I'm not taking sides because I don't know how this all started, but I PMd him on TL before deciding whether or not to ban him. I got this reply:
"No,
I'm not sure why this happened or why this was fabricated but maybe since UBC was champions of CSL last year and I am a manager of that team they want to try and take us down? only thing i can think of. Here is proof of my innocence:
REMOVED (personal info)
my paypal transactions, you'll see nothing coming in or out within 5 days.
please help post that I did not try and steal from charity. Personally both my parents work in charitable work so I would never try to steal anything from charities.

That's awesome! This was one of the few charities I have donated to in the past.

They raised 30k to feed kids, what have you done today to help make the world a better place?
lmao you obviously have some issues in your life ^^ all i said was that it wasnt my cup of tea. Im more then happy to help them raise money, i watched most of TLOs stream, cos his played good music, had a webcam, and played fun custom games and interacted with viewers and stuff.Maybe its because his was the first one there was and i wanted to watch it all, but i couldnt have done that this time. I know it'll be tiring, and the one point i talked about happened to be quite late on i think. But i watched within the first 2 hours, and it just wasnt something i wanted to watch, and i wanted to play instead, so i did.
Maybe i came in at boring bits, im not trying to imply that the full 24 hours were like that, of course they wouldnt have been, cos they wouldnt have raised anywhere near as much money as they did. And of the 10-15000 people watching must have found it interesting or they wouldnt have been watching. I would have kept the streams on, but my computer cant handle running SC2 very well as it is.
As i said the first time, they've done really really well, and weather they win tournamenrts or not, they've both done something really great and inspiring here, but im allowed to give my opinion arent i? and my opinion is that it wasnt very fun. I didnt hate on them, and i wasnt aggresive, i just simply said it wasnt my cup of tea.
I think with 2 of them doing it, and with destinys massive massive fan base, i think they could have done alot of fun 2v2s and team games and what not. And maybe they did. I dont know do i, i only watched 5 mins at the most.
So maybe you should GTFO, calm down a bit, and not 'blow up the internet' (i lold there btw, thanks for that)

Not necessarily, his peak viewer count during the event was more than doubling his average. That being said, it still comes out to some damn nice numbers.

Even if it was less than half of that, if he streamed 40 hours a week for 50 weeks a year....

If it was 1/4 of that: $1000/24hr = $83333/year
Some pretty decent money
He also ran more commercials than he normally would.

The highest number we saw is 21k. But i guess maybe they will give some information about that. Speaking of, is there a summary or kind of "Best Of" of the event? Missed most of it =)
Still glad to see these two helping out charities. regardless of how boring it may have gotten, attepting to do a 24hour cast is damn hard to pull off. especially when you are trying to function something as complicated as an RTS.
On September 16 2011 02:46 purecarnagge wrote: so did 100% of funds generated from this event go to charity? That was never mentioned in the OP.
Yes. All donations went to charity, as well as all ad revenue.
How can you say with 100% certainty that every single dime went to the charity? Normally when you donate to a charity, they will give you a receipt. Has that been posted?
Another thing to keep in mind is that everyone who works for a charity has the right to get paid, including Destiny and Sheth. If you host a charity event and bring a live band to attract attention, the band gets a paycheck for their service. This is much in the same way Destiny and Sheth using their celebrity status to bring awareness to the charity. It is possible for the live event to opt out of getting paid but that generally is not the case. As for Destiny and Seth, all the money went to their paypal accounts first, so they probably did get paid before the money was sent off to the charity.
Keep in mind that there is nothing illegal about this and this is how many charity events operate around the world. Lets take a charity cancer research facility for example. All the doctors and researchers inside of a cancer research facility gets paid for their service because they need money to feed their kids and pay their expenses. If they did not get a paycheck then how would they survive to keep the research for cancer going? The same thing goes for a priest inside of a church. Where does the money go when you donate to the church? A portion of it goes to the priest for living expenses and the rest goes to whatever the priest feels that the church needs.

While it's certainly true that people at charitable organizations get paid, not everyone does, by a long shot. Bands doing charity events often volunteer their efforts, same with I'd venture to say a rather vast majority of charity workers. Doctor's without borders for example utilizes volunteer doctors (all of them aren't necessarily volunteer doctors, I'm not entirely sure, but they definitely have them) who don't get paid for their services beyond what is necessary for them work. Sheth and Destiny should not, and almost certainly did not, take a cut, it's quite the unwritten rule that ALL proceeds go to charity unless otherwise stated with this kind of community driven effort.

you only watched 5 minutes of it, so youre an expert on the subject. first guy was right, this post wasnt need at all, along with your smug, rude response. you are the worst kind of poster. you say something without any actual understanding of what your commenting on, then you try and justify that you have some sort of right to make ugly posts. and then you take off on your high horse and "laugh" at the guy who called out your idiocy. well done champ
Wow. Why do these 25 post kids feel the need to hate on everything here. If he felt like the streams were boring, there's nothing wrong with that.
To be fair, it isn't the first time that ThatGuy89 has gone around being a douche.
Also, has the money been donated yet? Or a final figure been said - I know there was a rough estimate, but would really like to see how much the efforts yielded all up :D

This is half true-- Many of DWB's doctors are either people just out of their residencies who received grants from DWB to help pay for med school in return for a few years of service wherever DWB needed it. Others do receive salaries, but they are far lower than what they would make working at practices in the US. There's a whole system by which charities are rated for how efficiently they allocate their resources, and I believe legitimate charities are ones who keep less than 20% of their funds to pay for staff/offices etc. Based on that, if Sheth/Destiny both took 1k from the event, it would still be quite a reasonable endeavor for them as that is less than 20%, AND the 1k is probably less than what they would normally be making for their given time frame.
I think the concern is definitely a good one to raise, but I don't think it's much of a worry here-- I bet if you press destiny/sheth/justin.tv, they will show the receipt DWB gave them.
What happened with this? I hear 32k was raised which fucking amazing but there was no follow up article The whole world should be proud of what a few gamers accomplished for a good cause

Oh i'm sure this is no scam lol, just that it would be nice if they made at least an update on this post saying how it went, how much they raised and all.
The money's all sitting in my paypal acc. atm, but I need a letter from DWB to go to Paypal so I can donate it to DWB. Been playing the phone tag/e-mail tag/run-around game with DWB to get the letter from them. x.x
I don't really understand why, but Destiny has the money on his paypal account and need some stuff from DWB to donate the money. Don't know why DWB needs that long of a time for it...
