Just because something is legal or illegal doesn't make it wrong or right. If I was a hard working individual I would look up the MLK quote.

But yeah, just because Blizz is in the right "legally" doesn't make it ok or any less absurd.

Yea because blizzard would be dumb enough to alienate the members of the very same team that hosts the largest community site for sc2

This nonsense would be a lot more palatable if they actually fixed

-cross region play
-LAN

The Cross region server problem is not easily solveable and only annoy a very samll fraction of the playerbase.

I would trust R1CH's opinion on that, but I think you're wrong on both points. Everyone wants to play with overseas friends, particularly without spending extra money. It'd be quite easily to just open all the realms, even if ladders were still localized. But the custom games implementation is still clunky, and latency isn't necessarily good. This doesn't mean it wouldn't be easy to open the realms. And those problems have their own solutions, like introducing a second netcode that imitates the p2p connections of BW and infinite other games, over which you also happen to be able to simulate LAN latency. Of course, I suspect this also has some nonsense piracy threat attached to it. So they want everything funneled through big brother Blizzard.

Not a lot of the playerbase have friends on another continent. And cross server latency is apperantly already a problem.

If you don't have friends on another continent, it's because you can't meet them because it isn't cross realm to begin with. But for instance, look at how international TLAF-Liquid is. That's your home team, if you didn't know. In any decent game, you wouldn't care where the other players were from as long as you shared at least one language. People were even upset about the localizations of their campaign because they wanted to play the original English production.

And the entire social experience, which we were sold during the whole journey, is crap. Things which should have been in (chats, clans) weren't. That you can't get out of your shell and realize people like using the internet to meet their peers from wherever in the world... I expect you're the minority.

No, I dont play SC2 to meet people from the US or Korea. There are several thousand people on the server I play on, so there are lots of people to play with and befriend. But as an American who have moved to Europe etc and want to play with his American friends i can see its is a problem. But then you can buy another account or play another game.

The EU server obviously contains people from more countries than any other. But the world is still bigger than that. It's nonsense to say you can buy another account. We have all known that for like a year now. But you shouldn't have to, it's money in the toilet.

How long until blizzard starts to ban the accounts that teams like ogs and fxo share to use on different realms

this is pretty ridiculous, no one would've even cared or really paid attention to the account sharing if blizzard hadn't tried to make it an issue

i also wonder how long until blizzard realizes that it hasn't exactly been scoring points with its users for the past while now

blizz used to be my favorite company, but its been on a downward spiral for awhile, this just adds to it

That's a pretty good analogy. Problem is, in my city they broke down on jaywalking this one certain month and gave out hundreds of tickets. They don't really enforce it now, but this one month they handed out tons of tickets for jaywalking and everyone heard about it. Now there are less people that jaywalk.

Wow, I'm suprised how many people crop up in this thread sharing only blind hate towards blizzard, and raging about things completely unrelated to this incident like LAN. I mean, just seems like they are looking for any excuse to get all riled up and start spitting venom at Blizzard, who compared to many companies out there is pretty damn good.

Imo, if all they wanted was for the account sharing to not be publicised to tens of thousands of people on stream then that's perfectly fine for Blizzard: after all it is against the ToS. They didn't even ban, just warned. The account sharing itself while on stream was completely unnecessary: Huk could simply have changed back to his own account for the actual games instead of using TLO's, and casually breaking ToS and showing a bad example to many viewers.

On top of that, Huk boosting TLO to rank 1 Grandmaster, evidently where he does not belong considering his previous placement undermines ladder, which is used for tournamnet invites. Of course, the fact that Huk can't get a game on his own account is a problem Blizzard needs to fix, but what they did was completely understandable in the circumstances, and this whole thread has blown the whole thing out of proportion.

They aren't necessarily unrelated things. No LAN means no 3rd party servers where people would go for competitive integrity that Blizzard can't* guarantee on their ladder. No cross realm is a reason people might share accounts who aren't sponsored and can throw money away on accounts for multiple regions. A badly designed ladder is why HuK logged onto TLO's account in the first place. And yet Blizzard's first recourse is to treat its customers like retarded dragoons. If these problems didn't exist, we wouldn't witness things like this. That's why they're related.

i think team liquid should be able to afford an account for each of their players on each server...its a one-time cost.

it isn't really excusable that Huk play on TLO's account. I agree with blizzard because they are a business and having people openly 'cheating the system' on a streamed event is unacceptable. although i think that blizzard should probably let this one go assuming that Huk gets his own EU account soon. I can see why they wouldn't want to delay playing to obtain an account for Huk during the homestory cup...

Just for clarification Huk has his own account on EU but the MMR is too high to find games.

He's too good for the server. Lol! I think that would make him a 'Mega Baller' in the words of FXOqxc.

But, hasn't ICCup started the process of making its own SC2 server? Have they gotten in trouble for it?

understandable that Starcraft is a full-fledged community and not just Blizzard so sometimes problems are addressed by that community, but a public violation of the ToS by such prominent members of said community couldn't have gone unpunished. Blizzard has their integrity, as well as the integrity of their ladder to protect so they threatened punishment, knowing full well that the players and fans would hear about it, and then rescinded their threat to a mere warning so to get their message out there. I think that looking at the situation, Blizzard handled it very strategically.

account sharing is used practically daily for casters in specific tournaments like NASL and so on... why does blizzard care now? especially since its custom =-=

All Pro players should need to buy 3 accounts just to play in different regions. O and also if they change teams they should buy 3 more to swap their names.

I see nothing wrong with treating the players that make this game what it is like this. Blizzard knows best.

Blizzard is doing the correct thing. You cannot start to make exceptions, just because it is a high profiled pro-gamer like Huk. Actually, because it is Huk it is important to show that the account sharing rule is equal for all. Perhaps the immediate outrage now is bad for Blizzard publicity at this moment, but they get the point across to everybody. If Blizzard had done nothing while Huk streams to thousands of people, then people would start thinking that account sharing can be done without any repercussions.

That Huk cannot play ladder games on his account is a separate issue, and should not be mixed up with the account sharing issue. Yes, it is bad that Huk cannot play games, and Blizzard should fix this as soon as possible.

Edit:
Final note: That Blizzard called them to warn them beforehand was actually a nice gesture.
