Started in Gold after i finished the campaign and doing my placement matches. Was quite proud about that because i hadn't played any other RTS competitively - only played BW 10 years ago, WC3 i stopped playing a few month after the addon and mostly played custom maps.
Played about 5games a day as random because i couldn't decided on a race and slowly worked my way up into platinum with the help of the Day[9] dailies and watching lots of Huskys casts. About 5 wins before i got my "250 wins as random" achivement i got promoted to diamond and only finished up the achivement before becoming the Zerg i am now.
A while later i had a slump and decided "Everything sucks, i'll just do some crazy stuff"... like drone rush all the automatons on Scrap Station before attacking his base 5 minutes into the game with all my 6 drones, 6-pool into "kill my own base" or "last drone standing and then 1-pool". Did that for 30 games and got demoted to platinum, just to get back to diamond a month later and since then my skill seems to plateau in mid-diamond.
I feel i could do better if my hands weren't so slow, every action seems to take ages :/ (i'm almost 30)

Silver - > Gold - > Platin - > Diamond -> Master -> gm

I was really struggling in ZvZ at the time. I was on a pretty big win streak, for me atleast, 10 games, since I didn't get any ZvZs:D
I wanted to keep the streak going, qued new game, and it was a ZvZ.
After a 30 min game, I was lucky enough to squeeze a win, and after celebrating my first ZvZ win in almost a week, the "you have been promoted to platinum" thing came up. I was extremely pumped^^
turned out to be a good night indeed:p

Got placed into gold league after my placement matches, played 30 games, got into platinum.
Played the one placement match this "season" and got into Diamond.
Now I don't dare to play anymore, even though I actually know that leagues (rationally seen) don't mean shit. But I like Diamonds. They are shiny. Don't wanna lose that! Can't play!

It sucks, I have been working to masters from diamond for about five months. So the season resets, I get about 8 wins. Then my friend has a deal with me (he is a master Zerg) on how 4 gate can beat any race below masters. Well he went on my account (since it has a lower MMR) and did a 4 gate against a Terran who went 1-1-1, and won. Then my account was promoted into Masters League, the one I have been working on for months. (JUST THAT ONE WIN!) Now I cannot fully brag near him that I am a true master league person...

Got placed in Gold, won like 15 games in a row. Went to Platinum, another 15 games Diamond. Stopped playing properly- returned to go on a 20 game losing streak and be demoted to Plat with season two.
The moral of the story - natural talent for RTS is no excuse for not actually playing said RTS.

started in beta as toss got placed in copper. I had no clue how to play, id try and go like 1 gate core robo stargate carriers off 1 base and make like only 1 zealot and would die. Eventually I got into bronze. Then I switched to zerg, all i did was 14 pool 15 hatch into ling/muta, got promoted to silver, then gold, was high goldbut couldnt get promtoed to plat (plat was the highest back then)
then when the reset came that introduced diamond i decided to tyr terran for the first time, got placed into diamond, kept playing, stayed in diamond. When retail came out I went T, gotp laced in plat (you couldnt place into diamond) got promtoed to diamond after about 15 games, stayed there. Then I met my friend vVvTitan, and also watched idra play in tournaments, and it inspired me to switch back to zerg to prove that I wasn't just another facerolling terran abusing how easy T was back then. I barely managed to stay in diamond as I learned zerg, but eventually I got the hang of it, and got better with zerg than I was with T.
Then masters came out, right before it came out I did some calculations based on points and sc2ranks.com and figured I was high enough to get promoted into it right away. I was pretty sad when that was not the case, whats worse is my comp started having problems and I couldnt play for about a week and a half starding the day after masters came out, while I waited for a new part to come in the mail. After I gotto play again it took me about a week of playing in diamond to get promoted to masters. I've since been a low masters struggling bad zerg, doing everything I can to move up to mid masters and hopefully eventually high masters/some day GM, but It seems no matter how much I seem to practice I just don't get any better, or if I do I get better more slowly than everyone else.

me and a friend did our 4v4 in season once with off races and retarded strats and we did our single placement match and i 4x expoed by the 6 min mark as Toss and we ended up winning and got placed into platinum

I rage quit out of my Season 2 placement match. Got promoted
|
Bought the game; placed plat. Played a few games; got into diamond. Stopped playing for a long time until masters came out. Grinded games to masters, now I'm still in masters playing maybe one or two games a day.
|
People need to stop saying that they grind to masters... this isnt an mmorpg you don't grind games to go up in leagues.. you either have the skill or you don't you should say I finnally improved enough to be placed higher. lol. just my 2 cents.

Started playing as an ex-wc3 orc player, obviously chose protoss since most similar style wise. Got platinum after initial placement matches going 4-1 because I got screwed by some random all-in in a PvT in my first game. 20 games in got diamond, was around 45-25 in diamond before my desktop died last november. stuck playing on a laptop that cant handle sc2 past 1 base allins or too much FPS lag for my computer, haven't played since. T_T
hope to make masters this summer once i get my desktop going again.

I was in plat in beta when that was the highest, since after that I've been diamond. I don't think I'll ever get promoted or demoted from diamond so I don't know how that promotion feeling feels like and afaik will never find out.
I bet it's awesome thou!

well one day i got promoted
|
I was Gold, beating quite a few Platinum players, wondering how long it would take for me to get promoted. Today I started up SC2 like any other time, searched for a match, it was a ZvZ, and I was upset because I suck at ZvZ and starting the day with a loss is never good. I told myself to try my best and if I lose, don't let it get to me. I guess the guy hated ZvZ quite a bit more than I did. I didn't even get the chance to tell my Drones to mine because he left right away. "Alright, awesome!" I thought to myself. I click the score screen button, and it says I got promoted. I didn't know what to do, I just sat there for at least 10 seconds. And I got the whole thing recorded because I was going to post the FPVOD of the game on YouTube :D

Placed in platinum back near the start of S1 as protoss. Switched to zerg and proceeded to do baneling busts for about 20 games in a row to get into diamond, then played team games for the next few months. Just started playing solo again recently (and actually playing non-cheese games) so I expect to get promoted pretty soon.
|
Season 1Got placed in Bronze got dced in 3 of my placements, won my first 10 games and put into gold, than I won 2 games and was put into platinum and than I won 2 more and was put into diamond. It took 1 day lol.
|
Placed into platinum a few times in beta. Promoted to diamond after a game or two when that was added. In retail, placed in platinum, played 20 games to get diamond, played 1 game to get master league when that was patched in. I've played maybe 50 1v1 ladder games since release, but I'm always impressed by people that have worked their way up from bronze/silver into master/grandmaster.
|
silver ---> demoted rank 1 copper in beta---> promoted to plat --master---grandmaster
|
I started off in silver, every time i got promoted i for some reason stopped playing for a couple of week's, came back and played until i got promoted xD. I'm in diamond atm, will eventually be in masters! AND THEN GSL
