wordd Australia190 Posts April 30 2011 23:46 GMT #181 I played alot of 2v2 3v3 4v4 due to playing alot of Halo: 2, 3, Reach and wanting team mates. Got into like bronze straight off with no RTS experience. Mucked around with team games, eventually got them to plat and diamond, started playing custom games as all my friends from Halo were all like diamond/masters and I couldnt play with them for the fear of getting ass raped and laughed at so played customs for a few weeks, took ages to get from bronze to gold on SEA then I went on NA placed straight into Plat on my way up to masters now.

I thought it would be cool to try it out. This lead me to watching a ton of streams and cats before even picking up the game When I got it I went 4-1 in placements and got into gold. I then finally experienced my first 4-gate.... I lost like 10 games in a row vs toss 4-gate and got demoted to silver . My internet is pretty shit and as a result I get dropped a lot, so I stopped playing. I never really stopped watching starcraft though. Then about a few months later I decided to go on another run, this time I was ready. I quickly got promoted to gold, then to platinum, and then finally to diamond. I go to around 3.3k with a ~500 bonus pool at the end of the season I'm 9-1 this season with a ~300 bonus pool, still diamond. I'm getting better internet in June which is when I plan on actually playing constantly and getting to masters.

After season 2 I go on a tare and rack up a massive win streak, about 30 wins all against plat and diamond players. Eventually I get frustrated of waiting and I cheese for a few more games, and poof I'm in plat. 5 games later i get promoted again into Diamond :D.

Playguuu United States926 Posts May 01 2011 00:00 GMT #184 During beta I was in plat. I was going ok, going like 3-2 for the day, on my 6th game I ended up facing a pretty bad opponent. It was on metal. He goes forge first, so I'm think ok, he's trying to cannon rush me. Nope He procedes to cannon the hell out of his base and eventually expands and cannons that up too. It ended up being a 40 minute game where I couldn't break his natural with my ground army, so I eventually switch to broodlords and start working on his cannons. He has almost no ground army and it's all just cannons. So it takes me a while to kill all of them, and of course he doesn't leave the game as soon as he knows he lost. Eventually I win, but then promotion screen comes up. I end up getting DEMOTED to gold for that game. I don't know why, I felt at the time it was because that game took sooooo long for such a bad opponent. After that I just stopped playing beta seriously

Near the end of season 1, I got into silver and I was so happy, because I was finally in the same league as my cousin, who was bragging xD.Today I played 4 matches. Lost the first 2 to 1 basing terran allins (all gold leaguers). I won the 3rd against a protoss (again gold) because my macro was alot better. The last game I played was against an FE protoss. I opened my usual Spanishiwa, and scouted his army at about 7 minutes with my ling. He hadn't fully walled off, or made any cannons and I was really suspicious. I went around, looking for hidden tech, when he finally says to the effect of "Congradulations on the win". I was seriously like "what the heck??" so I asked him. He had to answer the door apparently, and hadn't been playing for 3 minute. He left, and with that win I finally became gold. Needless to say I was ecstatic.

Martacus 25 Posts May 01 2011 00:58 GMT #187 I was playing 4v4 casually with zerg cos i suck with them and needed to improve as i play random, and got placed in platinum, then, for some inexplicable reason I got demoted down 2 leagues (!!!) to silver after winning 3 games in a row vs favoured players (wtf !!!). Was unbelievably confused, and decided to play a few games to see if i got repromoted. I didnt. About 5 games a day and still nothing, I was gettin sooooo frustrated at being in silver (since I'm diamond for everything else), until, eventually, after winning 34 games in a row (even bigger "!!!") i got promoted to gold, where I remain, in the hopes that I dont have to win 34 in a row vs mostly plat and diamond players off-race again haha. Rant over

Billd Canada210 Posts May 01 2011 01:12 GMT #189 I started playing at release as protoss and then stopped playing for awhile. Started again as Zerg in bronze league. I finished season 1 as bronze league and was placed back in bronze at the start of season 2. When I was promoted to silver, it was my first win after a pretty bad losing streak. Not only that, the guy disconnected! He dc'd and I said to myself, "Okay time to get back on track now" and then boom promoted to silver. I was so happy!

Then I lost eight games in a row... didn't feel like ladder at all. Five days later I decided to just play one more game and see if I would get demoted to Gold or something, so I could win a few games again. but NO! I won that game and got promoted. + Show Spoiler +

I was top in silver for a while then I got promoted... stayed top gold for a long time and finally got promoted to platinum. I was satisfied being mid platinum for a while but then I noticed I was getting a lot better staying top platinum and I eventually made it to Diamond. I was so happy because at the time it was the top of the ladder. Now I'm working my way towards masters.

Dezire Netherlands640 Posts May 01 2011 01:28 GMT #193 I'm a former FPS Player, played ET for like 4 years before i got bored of it, started to looking a bit for smth new like cod and QL. then in november last year i just bought starcraft after seeing one match of qxc on some dreamhack i believe, im not sure i was mainly following the QL going on there. started the game, thought after 3 practice matches screw it i wanna how where i stand and qualified for bronze. i had no clue what i was doing so i quickly went to a 0-30 loss streak. then started watching stuff on youtube like forcesc2strategy and husky. i finally started to win stuff and went up to something like 80 - 40 before promoting. then 3/4 months later jsut before season 1 finished i got into diamond. right now not that extremely active but slowly improving my play, we'll see if i'll be able to get into masters someday, but im not to optimistic

Was semi-high diamond in beta so when the game came out I was pretty confident I'd get placed in diamond without breaking a sweat. So, to get my placement matches out of the way I thought I'd cheese every game. First game I 6-pool and messed it up somehow and lost! Next game I thought to myself "omg I lost to a scrub, next games I will be facing only bronze league players" and I got even more overconfident. Second game I won easy, but the third game I lost again due to a counter cheese. My opponent 8-pooled and killed my dual proxy rax on steppes of war. I lifted of to an island and almost managed to win the game, but not quite. My opponent was terrible, but I lost anyway. I was so pissed at myself. The last two games I played super safe, I got to 4 bases and maxed out before I attacked my opponents who both were sitting on one base turtling with cannons. I get placed in gold league with 3-2 score and I had to grind my way back to diamond. When I had to play the first game to get to masters this season I made sure I was well rested and I played super safe. I learned my lesson and I'm never going below masters again.

I kinda wanted to pioneer a new trend in a new game....so I decided to switch (kinda regretting the switch now...). Beta came along, and I got a key from a buddy. The game was ok, i played a few people, and I kinda enjoyed just playing a new game. After a week or so, I got extremely bored of it. I got tired of dealing with cheese and had to focus on school for a bit. When the game came out, another buddy of mine bought it, played a few games, and said "Hey want to paly on my account?" I said "sure, why not," and proceeded to play about 50 games. I got him promoted from bronze to diamond in less than a week...essentially stealing his account from him. We're still buddies though hahah.

BeMannerDuPenner Germany5638 Posts May 01 2011 01:46 GMT #196 meh not much to say. got my beta key a few weeks into beta, got placed into gold after my first few matches. playd few games and soon was promoted to platinum (back then the highest league). since then the only time i was not in the top league was right after beta resets (always did 4-1 and placed in 2nd highest) and right after release for like 30 games. since then been diamond and got promoted to masters after my 1st game after masters patch/ladderreset. so just sailing along pretty much >.<

templar rage United States2509 Posts May 01 2011 01:49 GMT #197 Only mildly interesting promotion for me was my most recent into Diamond, which happened immediately after I did a Funday Monday strat (the no banes/roaches/hydras/mutas + 12 lings one). I did win the game , with a BL/Infestor/Queen push with spines on the ground buffering.

SC2 caught my interest as I began looking up trailers and gameplay footage. After buying SC2 around release, I played around with Terran a bit and ended up being placed in Bronze. After getting to Silver a few weeks later, I decided to switch to Zerg and learned the 7 roach rush build. After exclusively using that build against T / P as well as inControl's 1 base roach timing attack in ZvZ from MrBitter's VODs, I eventually ended up in Diamond where I practiced a few different builds and had a fair share of wins and losses. Season 2 hit and I decided to try both Terran and Protoss on ladder after upgrading my gaming gear from a laggy laptop, cheap mouse, and mushy keyboard to a gaming computer, DasKeyboard, and Ikari Laser. After losing my placement match, I was placed in Master's league for some reason. I played a few more games as Terran and Protoss but ended up switching back to Zerg after maybe 10-15 games. Ever since, I have been looking into the Spanishiwa build and have been trying to refine my play. I am currently in the top 15ish of my Master's league. From Bronze! :D

kunstderfugue Mexico375 Posts May 01 2011 02:04 GMT #200 i learnt the game quite fast at the start: i went from bronze to silver, back to bronze, to silver and gold in only 2 weeks (probably because day9 started doing newbie tuesdays by that time) then i kind of stopped laddering and only advanced to platinum, which i mantain with one game a week.
