Got placed in platinum in season one after winning all 5 placement matches. Haven't played since. Decided to do one placement match for season 2, lost that, and got placed into diamond 1v1. Go figure..

I was platinum in beta. Placed quite below my expectations at silver upon release which really discouraged me from laddering. I would pretty much either lose to something silly or win so convincingly it wasn't even fun. I switched to playing custom games against diamond/masters players that built up my consistency/confidence in all MUs. After that I went back to ladder and crushed face, got promoted to gold, ladder reset and I placed into platinum. Played customs at this time to prep for MLG Dallas, which I made it to losers round 2(but my games were good! t.t) then came back to ladder and was promoted to diamond. Right now I play mainly obs till my vP is better and more fleshed out so I can make that final push towards masters(hopefully)

I was in copper/bronze in beta, because i never played any RTS online, except a few matches of Supreme Commander. Watched all the Day9 sc2 related dailies between the end of beta and the actual release of the game. Won all my placement matches after, got placed in plat and stagnated in there ever since, due to not having enough time/willpower to play constantly.

Oops. Wrong thread. Well I guess I'll edit it into a promotion story

Got placed into bronze. went silver then gold. Got a girlfriend, so played less. She dumped me, got demoted to silver from lack of practice. Played a ton more, got promoted back into gold. About a month ago I got promoted to Plat at a LAN i was hosting at my college. I had to watch the room overnight, no one was there so I played a ton of games. went 9wins for 10 games played that morning.
Later that afternoon got put into plat. Felt great ^_^

end of the beta phase 1, wc3 player, never played starcraft before, started 0-11 in copper league, then all the way to rank 1 platinum in beta (when diamond didnt exist), didnt play phase 2, 3700 master at the end of the last season.

Was Platinum in the beta (the equivalent of Diamond now.) Placed Platinum in season 1 and never got higher. Placed Platinum in season 2, but then I lost a bunch of games in a row to Silver players, I guess because I was rusty, and I got demoted to Gold. Over 100 games later, I'm still in Gold. This frustrated me so much that I bought a smurf account... on which I placed Platinum.

2 bad i played enough bw 2 not suck, so i have allways been in the top leagues :< nothing 2 celebrate :< i guess i could celebrate if i got into GM now

I did placement straight away never played sc2 before, watched some MLG tho. Got placed in Silver, was in there for about a week, then I found this 3 rax all in build did that for a bit got into gold, then about 5 games later got into plat :D. I had a lot more wins then loses. Since then I haven't played to much but I got into high plat doing a variety of builds mainly 1-1-1 or 2 rax fe.

Did not play BW before (despite of some games against my turtle father in LAN)
Got the Beta early, started in gold and soon got promoted. Went immediately into Diamond. When Master was availabe got immediately into that league too.
Did not get into Grandmaster, but since the last ladder reset i've got a 6:0 record in my Master League.

Actually built up the nerve to 1v1 ladder after like 35 2v2s with my friend (in which we managed to get like #2 silver, losing to apparently superior cheeses by diamond/platinum 2v2ers).

Scout and see gas -> rax -> gas
his scout comes into my base
I put down a quick robo, his scv leaves, bam put down 2 gates and do a delayed 4gate
i walk into his base with 5 stalkers and some zealots, he has 3 hellions and a half completed bunker like wtf.

Well, I got the game on release and played mostly team games with friends.

I did my 1v1 placement and got platinum. I played a bunch of games (Maybe 50 games or so, with approx 65-70% win ratio) and got promoted to diamond. When masters league was introduced I logged on, played and got promoted. No real story there, I just think if you have decent enough mechanics and learn the game there's not going to be any difficulty in getting to masters.

My 2v2 story was a little more interesting, because I started out on retail having never watched/played a game of startcraft, not knowing what the units did, not knowing what buildings did what, but feeling confident because of my considerable previous RTS experience. We got placed in bronze, and we sucked.

We kept playing, and approaching 100 games in the bronze league we mastered a build which gave us great success: I would go 13 gas-pool and my teammate would go 2gate. We just rushed and killed all of our opponents and rapidly shot up our division and eventually received the elusive silver league promotion.

We continued to rush and finally found ourselves in the gold league. This is where things got tricky, we found that people could actually attempt defend themselves against our rush, so we needed a backup plan. It took a while, but we were getting to the point where we understood the game pretty well, so after some practice we got promoted to platinum, and 1 game later we got promoted to diamond.

I studied some high level zergs and then dived into 1v1 ladder and found that with my mechanics, my team game practice and my 1v1 studies I was able to quickly climb the ladder into diamond/masters fairly effortly, as mentioned above.

Played a bit of BW in 1999/2000, didn't play the SC2 beta, and went straight into placement matches after the campaign. Got placed in Bronze, but quickly rose through to Silver and then Gold. Here I started experimenting a bit with races, but eventually got up to Platinum by playing mainly Terran. Then as I start getting close to Diamond, I switch to Random. Which meant that I had 6 new matchups to learn, and got worse in the 3 I already knew.

I dropped down to low Gold before I started climbing again late last season. I started this new season in Gold, and I now think I'm close to being promoted to Diamond having played about 50/50 Random/Zerg.

I really ought to stick to just the one race if I wanted to consistently improve, but that just bores the crap out of me. I may not have much of a record, but I am enjoying myself.

Ive been laddering for about 7-8 months in Bronze
Just last week I was put into silver, i sort of knw it was coming because I was playing a ton of silver players, and thrashing them to shit.

I got knocked down to silver at the start of this season from gold, which annoyed me quite a bit since I was always rank 1 in my gold league and never really got promoted. Anyway, I climbed my way back up to the top of silver after a while, taking the opportunity to experiment with a couple of other races.

Anyway, it wasn't the game I got promoted on, but one of the games before, and I was facing a protoss placer who went forge fe on tal'darim altar. With my scouting drone, I killed 2 of his probes trying to wall off his natural, and he just gg'd. I felt kinda bad for him, since he probably woulda beaten me and it wasn't a huge deal, but it got me in the mood to win the next game which promoted me

Bought the game in September/October after watching S1 of the GSL Open. Decided that I wanted to be like fruitdealer and played zerg. Won two of my five placements and got placed into bronze. Pretty much kept on losing for about a week and took a few months off. Started playing again in January and decided to pick up Protoss. Basically went from a 5-13 record to 45-22 by just 4gating my way into diamond in a weekend. Since then I've gone back to zerg and I'm still in diamond.

Like I said, if you were good enough to be in a better league, you would be. You're not an isolated case in a massive system, being cheated out of your rightful league. Placed into Plat. Outmacro'd everyone by a ton but had to learn all the cheese. Went to diamond. Was master's temporarily in Dec but then demoted to diamond after 3 months of no playing and coming back. Currently trying to get back into form, though the metagame is way harder for zerg (very close though!)

I started as bronze 1v1, completely new to RTS's, beginning of November. After 160 games, I got promoted to silver in the first week of February. End of Feb, I was promoted to Gold. That week, I believe I was promoted to Plat and Diamond in less then a week. I was in Diamond when I had approx 235 games.
