Placed into gold... as Protoss I thought Immortals could shoot air, Terran was straightforward enough so I was okay, and as Zerg I couldn't figure out which building had the lurker upgrade T_T
Once I figured out all of that, I got into Diamond but I don't have enough time to play and get better =(

I had very little RTS background before, it was mostly Age Of Empires matches with friends and 2v2 ladder on Company of Heroes with a friend aswell
Anyway, I went to the midnight release of the game and played as soon as I got home, did my practice matches (around 15) and then I made my placement matches, surprisingly enough I got placed on BRONZE, where a banshee or a drop means GG.
I then began looking for BO's and what not for every matchup, after like 15 games I got promoted to silver!
I stayed like a week here, played a bunch of games, won most of them and suddenly I got promoted!
Now comes the gold league, I stayed for about 2 months here, people were starting to understand the game and for me taking more than 2 bases was crazy, I felt overwhelmed with huge battles. When my macro got alittle better I started winning a lot more and I got promoted to...
Platinum! dear god, this was a punishment for me around 6 months stuck on that league, I kept playing and playing and playing, I was top 10 on my division and I was playing 2000+ rated diamond players, but the thing didn't promote me at all.
Season 2 started and I got placed back on platinum, I stayed there for like a week and then I noticed how I had improved, I did a huge session one saturday (30 games), won most of them, and I got promoted. At that moment I was so happy, finally I thought that I was going to get better games and that I was going to improve even faster...
Oh boy I was wrong, I want to rip my hair off with all the cheese I get in a daily basis, now I have been going from 5th of my division to 25th...and back to 5th...and back to 25th again. I guess I'll stay in diamond for a year. I'll make sure to do some kind of party once I'm masters :|

i started out at gold... at SEA, won a few games in a row to get into platinum.
was on a 5 game winning streak and then went on a 2 game losing streak when i encountered a person who disconnect within 5 seconds and i got into diamond.

Protoss: Beta: Bronze, Retail: Gold->Plat->Diamond Race Switch to Z: Season 1: Plat, Season 2: Top Plat. I feel a promotion coming soon, playing high ranked diamonds.
Anyways, after retail I remember 4gate'in and 3gate roboing my way through gold/plat. The game that I got promoted to diamond was vs a rank 4 diamond Protoss who went 4 gate, i went 3 gate blink stalker and barely beat him. My micro won me the game, and afterwards the little notification popping up made me scream FUCK YEAH so loud my parents yelled at me. . All my vent buddies hated me too :D

started playing in December. This is my first RTS, so thought it would take a while to rank up, but played about 5 practice matches, then did placement. Got placed in gold, then hit plat about 2 weeks later, and then diamond about 3 weeks after that. Finished season 1 at ~3450 points in diamond. Hit master's about 3 weeks ago. Guess it's okay, but I won't be happy until I'm in GM at the very least.

Placed in bronze, played for a month (about 2-3 days a week), got promoted to silver. Played for a while until I got into gold. Finished season 1 in gold. Won placement match and got plat. Now, due to a massive slump combined with a huge problems with my internet connction (I got dropped like every other game, fixed it now though), I was demoted to gold. Said fuck it and decided to switch to zerg. I expect to stay in gold till I get the race down and then move on up the ladder. Yay!

I started in platinum after my placements and this is how I got promoted to diamond:
Close pos metalopolis ZvP. I try to go hatch first like usual but the guy has blocked my natural with a pylon, and this is the first time I've seen this. So I'm like "wtf is this? now what?" I decide to just go and take the far side gold and hope he doesn't spot it, which he doesn't. Oh yeah, he also double gas steals so I can't get zergling speed in time and have to make extra queens and a spinecrawler. He hits me with a 2 gate (this was before they nerfed it) and I barely defend it without losing more than 2-3 workers. And now he thinks I'm on 1 base and that I will do an all in. So he plays really defensive until I hit him with a billion zerglings and banelings with a couple of mutas. Boom diamond.
That was so satisfying because it was the first time I really had to improvize and adapt to something I had never seen before.

Mine was actually captured on my stream haha!

I was stuck in high diamond for almost 2 months, grinding out games desperately trying to obtain masters league. It finally happened and i got to share it with my viewers :D

gold after placement, platinum about 10 games later, diamond the week after. havn't reached masters due to not feeling like grinding 1v1's instead of playing with friends etc, but I know I can reach it if I wanted to.

I think I'm in the middle of a gold promotion horror story.
For some reason, the matchmaking keeps screwing with me. I'll play people rougly on my level for maybe 1 or 2 games, most of which I win. The MM then pits me against high gold or platinum suddenly. I lose this game because I haven't had much practice against their skill level yet. The MM then proceeds to cast me back into the lowest depths of bronze league players for 8 games in a row.
It's so annoying. I know golds and plats are better than me and I need to adapt to their play, yet I only ever get one or two tries at it before the matchmaking decides I am equal in skill to people with a grand total of 2 games played, in bronze. I then have to slug my way through 6+ easy wins, before it once again gives me one chance against a higher skilled opponent, and back again to 1-base 6rax allin world.

This is my first rts, not the hardest game(protoss), but I feel my progress has been fairly high since i started.
- Bronze league when i started playing late christmas 2010 - Silver league february 2011 - Gold league february 2011(two weeks after silver), finished season 1 top 8 gold, - Platinum league first game in season 2 - Diamond league 2 weeks later.
Approximately 100-150 ish games from bronze-diamond, pretty happy. Taking a break now in may to do exams then aiming for Masters throughout the summer.

Got placed into bronze since the lack of my RTS gaming, I played WC3 few years back but mostly dota and custom games since I was so horrible in 1v1.
I got promoted to silver quite fastly and from silver to gold also very quickly. Then I played like a month in gold and got promoted and got stuck into platinum for 4 months. When I got promoted to diamond, masters league was already running and my goal was to atleast get to the last league there are. I might never get into grand masters, but now I am atleast meeting master players and beating them so hopefully I will get promoted into masters soon. : )
My season 1 I got into diamond top 10 in my league with 3,4k points:p

Well, I finished my placement matches and got directly into silver, there I was on the #1 spot for most of the last season - but I never got promoted. Now, in season two I probably get more gold- and platin-players than silver and I beat them on regular basis. Yesterday I even whooped a Diamond's ass - still no promotion.
It must be bugged or something. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Just beat another Diamond. I'm losin' it over here. I can't believe I'm still in effin SILVER!
|
I got the game back in October. Placed in Silver but really didn't play much. I probably played like 5 games a week (definitely had more to do with nerves than anything). When the first season ended I played a ton because it felt like those games didn't matter. I noticed my MMR was moving up because at first "even matches" were against gold then eventually platinum. I played some matches verse diamond but I broke about even with those, even though they were "slightly favored".
I ended up placing in Platinum when season 2 started up, I figured since I stopped worrying about my nerves that I'd play more but once the season actually started I played less. I'm still in platinum now.

Mmh. My first promotion to diamond was quite funny. I was struggling for a long time just between platinum and diamond, when I finally took my friend´s account which had 0 online games and played it into diamond. Afterwards I felt, now I can finally make it on my own account as well.
I queue on the ladder, first game on my own account after playing friend´s acc. scrap station against zerg. 6 Pool comes, worst ling micro ever and I beat the guy like some random bronze.
Promoted to diamond.
All the time I had been ONE game away from the diamond league :D:D:D

Oh, wow. It's really odd - these types of things, though somewhat trivial, are extremely exciting. I remember all of my promotions / demotions since the game's release. Let's see...
It started out with me picking the game up on launch day. Despite some previous RTS experience in the Age of Empires series, I wasn't really good and had never played Starcraft before, so only won one of my placements and got placed in bronze. After that, I began grinding out matches and eventually moved up into silver, then about 2 weeks later I moved up into gold. Looking back now, though, I was really bad... I was Protoss, and went blink stalkers like EVERY game. Didn't know how to 4 gate or anything, I just got lotsa stalkers and the blink upgrade. I didn't understand what to do against mass hydras or lings or basically anything competent 0.o
But after about a month of solid playing and promising an interested friend that I'd get into diamond soon, I got promoted to Plat. I was way happy. After a week or two more, I was playing top plats and low diamonds like every match, and was on the verge of making it in... but then school caught up. I stopped playing as much, and only began again when masters league was introduced. By then I still didn't have the time to play as much as I wanted, and I was kind of suffering for lack of practice. After a long night of playing on tilt and losing almost all of my games, I got demoted to gold again. However, break was coming up, as was the ladder lock - and I wasn't going to get stuck in gold for the ladder lock. I grinded hardcore for the few days before the lock, and played almost nonstop on the day of. Late at night, after like 13 straight wins, I was tired and decided I'd give it up after one final match. I played, I won, and of course I managed to get promoted to plat again! Apparently it was 10 minutes before the lock as well.
Then, after a week of screwing around during the lock, I got placed in gold at the start of season two, once again proved that I really don't belong there, and went immediately back up to plat. And I'm currently still there, trying to finally reach diamond and fulfill that goal.

Never really had promotions. Have been sitting at the max league until GM came out. Not a GM, don't care to try.
|
I was in one game on my shitty bad 20 Framerate computer and i thought i'll do an all in so i did. I did a 3 gate 1stargate all in and just win really quick then go on my other computer. Got my 2 voids and roflstomped this diamond terran GG Diamond promotion from plat

I was gold league beta, hitting platinum at the end of the first beta phase. The jump to diamond was made easier by all the Zergs who insisted on giving free wins away during the awful map pool days after release by trying to 6 pool every game, even against Terrans.
The speed reaper got nerfed, terran got too gimmicky, and so I switched to Protoss and tried to learn how to play the game. The punishing nature of diamond league's missed forcefields lead to 2 replacement keyboards. I have now learned to forcefield, my keyboard is safe for the moment, and diamond league is a cesspool of cheesers and 1-base gosus
