Yeah I get nervous, especially when I haven't played in a while.

On regular play times tho, I just ladder until I stop caring

i used to, however i changed my goals in laddering to aim for 10 ladder games a day rather than trying to get a higher score, and it makes me a lot less nervous

When I haven't played for a while, I get really nervous. Other than that, not really.

I used to be really nervous but now I don't really care at all even if I lose 10 games in row.

It's kinda crazy for people to even ladder if their so nervous. What would make someone who is terrified of laddering be able to hit the find match button? does the benefit of winning and having a good game out weigh the anxiety of laddering god i hope so.

i used to be mildly anxious when i played only a couple of games a day or i havn't played for a while and was anxious about my skill just disappearing overnight. I've found it completly disappeares the more games i play where it's got to the point where i actively look forward to getting on win or loose.

I would make the assumpion on my exsperience that the people that are nervous and are answering yes i can hardly press the look for match button without sweating are the players who don't play alot of games day in day out and the best cure for them is just to mass games i can guarantee you will stop fealing nervous when you've pressed that button 50 times today and the worlds not imploded

I actually play like 20 games a day, and I still have to step back and play CSS or something every few hours, just because I can't justify going in and potentially stalling my promotion another week.

I think the biggest problem (for people in lower divisions that want to get promoted) is that laddering is so volatile, you might face (in gold) a silver or a diamond, and it seems like it just goes on forever, so someone facing a lot of plats, and maybe winning half their matches (see: me lol) might not want to keep going in, because even though the MMR says "mid plat", the league says "rank 2 gold".

The second problem is that for people in low divisions, they usually cant justify customs for practice, because of two reasons. The first one is that it doesn't help get promoted (though the practice you get may make the promo easier to achieve, it just doesn't give u points like ladder does). And second, the idea that no matter how much you practice, it doesn't matter if you're stuck in the same division for a few weeks.

Iunno lol, I'm already feeling trapped in gold and I've only been playing for two and a half weeks.

I haven't even laddered since the new season started. I was always afraid of getting demoted to a lower league when I laddered. It's probably doesn't fluctuate as much as I think it does, but it just feels like you are one step closer to demotion when you lose lol. Strangely, winning doesn't feel like you're one step closer to promotion though =P

I used to be nervous in most online games, i remember my first forray into Arenas in WoW back in BC when they just came out.

Then my ass went to the military and now i can manage it, i rarely get nervous about anything anymore let alone videogames.

Experience is the best way to get your nerves down. Now I've been playing this game for more than a year, but I played a lot of custom games before going on ladder to 'warm up' cus i really didnt want to sink on the ladder. But then i began participating in tlopens and realized what nervousness was xD And all of a sudden ladder ranking wasn't that important anymore and since i have been laddering completely without nerves and my tournament nerves have also gotten stronger. (not perfect yet thou)

For me first time hitting the 'search'-button is the hardest, after my first match it get's much easier.
If I have some stressing games I feel like I need to pause some time.
So, in general I get nervous within a game, but I never got as stress as in front of an exam xP

For some reason I get very nervous laddering 1v1, don't have any problem churning out 2's. I'll also never requeue after I win in 1v1, but I'll keep going if I lost.

All in all I prefer custom games, I have a nice circle of friends who are around my skill level so it's no problem.

Intellectually I know ''pfft it's just ladder why should you care what other people think of you?'' but I always find myself hesitating for 2 reasons 1. I don't like competition that much 2. My internet lags like no other.
But once I get into the swing of things I can play for about 5 games by then I'm usually too pissed at the lag too play more.

When I started to play I was nervous and shaking when I played ladder but when I got comfortable in my game it went over. Also, when people learn to drop the "omg what if I lose? I don't wanna lose points"-attiude laddering will be more fun and not so nervously.

Actually thinking about it, the thing that really stopped the nerves for me was being able to understand, in most of my games, why I lost. Thinking about why you lost and how you can do it better actually distracts you from nerves and replaces that sinking feeling you get after a loss with active thinking about the next time you're in that situation. When I don't understand why I lost I usually rage a bit and then go watch the replay, and then I'm back to understanding.

A frizend of mine is actually too afraid to ladder(1v1) and only plays customs and team games.
I know it can be somewhat scary to play solo especially after playing some team games, but you just have to make peace with the fact that you're going to lose games, there's no shame in that and no reason to be scared...
I have no quote!

I overcame this fear long before, I was so scared when I switched from B.net to iCCup in BW, but then I noticed there were a lot of crap people just like me, (apart from the [KR] people that were mostly smurfs), but yeah, I am overwhelmed by the people who are scared to ladder, you really should overcome it and enjoy the moments, I had a period that I lost 3 days in a row when i was like 2-22, and even was under performing against my friends in my custom games. But after that just break the underwhelming performance and go 10-0 the next day, and keeping up the pace.
