Having said that, overall the first production was by far and away positive. Amazingggg stream + basically no downtime + fun games = all you can ask for.
Once the casting is perfected, this will be as good, if not better, than anything.

Edit: Other than that, I LOVE the NASL as it stands right now great production, great stream, and good casting will be looking forward to the rest of the league.

The problem with day-after-day of group play is that viewers will be less interested, because nothing much really depends on the outcome of the game. (The games count somewhat of course, but I'm saying the less is on the line, the less people are interested.) Today's Dreamhack had the opposite problem. There were too few matches. They could have kept the players around for longer, and do a loser bracket or something like that.

Edit: after reading some other criticisms I just have to contradict them. I disagree that group play will be boring because there's less on the line, I will continue to watch as long as the matches are interesting. How many games are in a regular season of MLB? Also, I like having no music and I don't care about graphics or portraits or any of those things.

Incontrol is awesome and genuine, but everything gretorp says feels super forced and it's like he's trying to add excitement to the wrong things and with poor execution. He could get better, but any other commentator that's better as a base could also get better and he's just not made for commentating at heart.

I do think it is kind of lacking in hype and excitement, especially after watching the dreamhack invitational earlier today, and seeing how awesome the live audience was. Hearing the screams and cheers in response to what the players were doing, kept me glued to the screen and really got me into it. Obviously the studio doesn't have the capacity for a huge live audience, and certainly not every night-- but even some epic music between the matches would help some of that. The commercials aren't well done, imo. Ads should be broadcasted at appropriate times between matches, rather than being the arbitrary interruptions that they currently are. Finally, just a tiny bit of polish and details-- things like remembering to make them Refs, so they can tell the players to pause if they are lagging, etc., having a smooth transition if a pause is necessary, cleaner cutting to the commentators after the games, changing the light so they aren't squinting into it, etc. The simple fact that the first day did not experience any huge technical issues, and the games were good is very encouraging.

Agreed, they should have the casters be Refs, or atleast have a ref there to hit pause if/when it's needed.

Some examples of this is right before the post-game interviews, or right at the end of the stream before the wrap up.

+ Video quality & production value was fantastic. I felt bad for NASL after Dreamhack this morning, because their productions would inevitably be compared since they were the same day. NASL came through though, and exceeded my expectations in that regard. + The casting was better than I expected it to be. I don't mean that as an offense meant to iNc and Gretorp, even Tasteless & Artosis felt a bit awkward those first nights of GSL. I expected that kind of "we're still getting used to each other", but it's very noticeable you guys practiced before the final recordings. Kudos. + That split screen opening, that shows both players. Not much to say about it, just really dug it. The Bad - The gamma was a bit high. This is especially noticeable on the wire frames when a unit/building is in red health. - The Twitter/Facebook reminder was a bit distracting. I don't mind it in concept, but it suddenly just appearing would often take my attention away from the game. Maybe fading it in/out, or even giving it permanently visible (perhaps a bit smaller, to the right of the game clock?). - The camera was a bit jerky. I can only assume this is something that will get better in time, but still wanted to mention it as something to maybe focus improving on. - No score display. I can't count how many times throughout the night I had a friend tune in late and ask me if this was the first game and what the score was. - The Menu Bar (F10/F11/F12 buttons) at the top of the screen can be hidden in options. The Misc = I honestly didn't notice the lack of in-game music, but soon as I saw it mentioned in LR thread I couldn't stop noticing it. I don't know if that's a problem with the cast, or a problem with me. = In light of the recent "is SC2 ready for television" talk, this kind of had a feeling like I was watching it on TV. That's definitely not a bad thing, just something I thought was interesting. I'm sure it's because it goes straight from game-to-game, no down time while we wait for players or extra long technical difficulties.

They had one they showed a few times I think, but it didn't seem to stay up. Music would be my #1 suggestion as the cast seems eerily quiet and some very quiet background music would really keep things feeling a bit better. I like the commentating for the most part. It's great to have a really knowledgeable duo where they can really talk a lot about the more about the game and not just the obvious parts of the game while still sharing the mic time pretty well. I also agree with all of this... + Show Spoiler + On April 13 2011 13:12 Z-R0E wrote: The Good + Video quality & production value was fantastic. Overall I really enjoyed it and am looking forward to seeing more. People need to remember this isn't an elimination situation yet and the groups are quite large so it's not going to feel really hype yet no matter what. Once we start getting into the end of the groups and then into the elimination portions the excitement level should pick up a lot.

I think improving the mic quality is definitely a good place to start the improvements. I think that they should reduce the brightness in the game a tiny bit as well. Other than that, nothing bad really stoof out for me. Great first day NASL ^^
