Don't really understand all the hate here, this is only day 2...
People are whining about the inconsistency of the caster saying "we'll be going directly into match 4..." then a 5 minute intermission happens. The matches were recorded earlier, and then intermissions were included by popular demand and/or due to technical issues after the fact, so please just chill about these minor details.
-VOD section needs to be cleaned up. -Gamma/contrast needs to be adjusted (watching a protoss play hurts my eyes) -Sound issues need to be addressed, or just tell the casters to stop yelling.
Honestly I think the production would be better if it were more TSL-style casting from replays. Just record them casting the replay and then rebroadcast that. Then all the crap in between games can be skipped and everything would be smoother/more efficient.

Well it looks like they fixed the in game brightness. It's looking a lot better.
|
Keep Diggity and get Gretorp out of the casting seat.
|
Don't feel like you need to fake any sort of excitement, in fact, the volume levels need to be more consistent.
|
Sound Quality even at 720p is poor, Gretorp's overuse of the word "UNBELIEVABLE", Intermissions are a bit too long, I think two minute is more suitable and the series score should be displayed at all times and I have no idea why it isn't.
|
If you're going to do a 5 min intermission. keep it to 5 minutes! You're going to lose a lot viewers if you got afk for over 10 minutes. better yet, turn that intermission into a player/matchup introduction and take out the 30 minute snorefest of a pregame show.

Very much liking Diggity as a caster, I'd like to see him on here regularly.
|
Keep Diggity as a caster, I would love to see him cast with iNcontroL.
Diggity is really good, his rapid fire casting style reminds me of Chick Hearn (Legendary caster of the LA Lakers).

Some thoughts on the cast so far this evening:
Gretorp: stop using "big words" if you don't know how to apply them to a context. I'm so sick of hearing how a unit will be 'undermined' when you just mean to say killed...
and PLEASE stop yelling that way. There's a specific way to modify the intonation and volume of your voice to show excitement... study what professional sports announcers do. Note that is very different from what you are doing. I've literally had to change my volume equalization settings because its so damn annoying when a second of silence is broken by some random scream that a colossus just showed up.
Diggity is doing an amazing job... I would love to see him back again.
Still getting some stream stability issues at 1080p
5 minutes is too long for intermission... use the standard 2 minute commercial timing.

"Fine, I'm gonna grab a snack, want anything from the vending machine?" "We have a vending machine!?" "How would I know?" "What.. but... I don't even..." yeah because they want to do a shitty job? Your logic doesn't make any sense. Backwater gulch is in the map pool on ladder and is actually a pretty awesome macro map. I don't see anything wrong with it, and obviously they felt it was for the best. NOT cause they want to do a half ass job :/ The problem with the way the NASL handles maps isnt that Backwater Gulch is in the map pool, but rather that they are forcing people to play on a fixed set of maps in a fixed order every week. Thats a stupid format AND it is their own decision. Every other tournament goes with downvoting or loser picks and such, but the NASL just has come up with a nifty table just to have one more statistic to track for the stats-loving americans.
Look at the standings of the NFL, the NBA, the NHL and compare that to the standings of any soccer league (even the North American Soccer League) and you see much fewer stats listed for soccer. Many of the stats on a soccer table are just for bookkeeping (W / D / L and games played) so only POINTS and goal difference are really anything to talk about. The NASL has - sadly - adopted the "too many statistics" trait from other US sports and this "lets force players to play on map X so we can have a nice map intro each time" is one of them. Its bad and will hopefully (I am not optimistic here) be changed for next season.

Please keep Diggity as a permanent caster, fix your sound quality issues, and keep ingame music on/in game sounds louder.
|
Thanks for adding the breaks between series, it made watching for a long period much more manageable, if you could do it without having to restart the stream it would be awesome; it takes the stream a few minutes to settle each time for me which interrupts the start of the games.

I was really happy to hear Diggity casting some SC again. He's been a great caster for a while now.
I know Gretorp has been great to the community and sounds like a good guy and all... but I also am with everyone else that his casting irritates me. Every game is not mind blowing, every battle is not the most exciting thing in the world, stop your way of yelling (it hurts my ears) and stop saying "I CANNOT EVEN FATHOM..." with ridiculously simple tasks. I understand he is trying to hype up the matches and all, but this isn't the way to do it.
Otherwise... the games are as good as the players playing them that given hour. I cannot complain about that.
|
Diggity for regular caster! Finally someone where I don't have the feeling listening to some random unexperienced nerd, but actually to a professional commentator
|
There is a few things with the NASL that were really pissing me off.
- The fact that there were huge intermissions between every set, the intermissions should definitely be shorter or at least adhere to the 5 minutes (there was what seemed to be a 15-20 minute intermission!)
- No smooth transition from the intermission screen to the casters talking again. GSL has the introduction video that plays before Tastosis start talking again, and I think that NASL needs the same thing, because it was kind of a moment of confusion when I was alt tabbed and commentating and game noises just kicked back in out of nowhere.
- The commentator who was commentating via skype or something, what was with that? It made the entire tournament feel kind of cheap.
|
The one single thing that they MUST do is to have other than 1080p vods. I bet more than half the people can't stream those 1080p vods without pre-buffering, which is ridiculous. 480p/720p is plenty of resolution for SC...and since they allow that for live broadcast, why not for vods :|.
|
No offense to Gretorp but his commentating skills are pretty bad, there are plenty of other casters to choose from so please get someone else.
|
I like Diggity's casting and hope he gets a chance to cast a lot more. Gretorp has a good attitude and general casting style but he messes up his words a little too much and focuses on minor points when there are more pertinent things to talk about in my opinion.
|
Music in the game, its so frustrating to just hear the units, but the the ingame music.
Also the stream is too bright, someone forgot the contrast on highest probably.
More interesting introduction, for example as others suggested you need to do the player info between matches, maybe add some music while the casters talk between sets, get graphics of maps and results and achievements of players, etc.....
Right now production value is 1 out of 10.
EDIT: Glad to see Diggity casting, wouldn't mind him becoming a permanent caster, he is doing an amazing job.
|
I appreciate Gretorp`s passion but damn gotta chill on the excitement and exaggeration of simple things, and sometimes bad games. You cannot fake it, especially if a game isn`t that good or close.
Also the random peaks of yelling kills my ears I have to adjust the volume up and down all the time.
