I know SC2 is much different from Broodwar but the excitement is a little over the top when a korean player loses. We get it, foreigners are not that far behind, but it makes the chat turn into a korea vs the world troll fest. Nationality is brought up way too much.
In-game music would be a nice touch. Other than that, good commentating and much better experience than freaking MLG (ughhh)

Why no 3D portraits? LOL, I think the only change that should be taken away from this thread is a more professional observer, whoever is observing (I believe it's gretorp) is not doing as well as they should and it is hard for a commentator and to both focus and comentate and cast at the same time. Look at the GSL for example, Tasteless is able to cast much better and the observing got a lot better because the two were seperated, tasteless can focus on casting and the observer focus' on observing. Taking out 3D portraits is a stupid suggestion.

I have an HD pass with 1080p access and 24/7 vods. I suggest you buy one too if you want ads otherwise you are going to have to deal with it. Complaints like these are useless, without ads you leagues don't exist. No ads = no sponsors.

they have a "contact us" option on the website why dont you tell them your suggestions there and if they care theyll do it and if they dont they wont

i dont think there was more than a line of banter b/c they spliced the videos together of them casting the different games
so when 1 game ended you hear
"yeah it definitely could have gone either way blahblah lets see if he can do it next game"
"alright ladies and gentlemen here we are in game 2 blahblah"

I'm not too worried about the casting. Given time they will naturally keep getting better and better. Doing something 5 days a week 4 hours at a time will do that to you.
For suggestions, I'd say the transitions need work. I think something like "Alright lets go into game 2!", cue epic music and video, "And here we are on X map with X spawning in the..." No lobby, no loading screen. If you're going to do editing you might as well edit out all that stuff.
Otherwise great work and I'm really excited for this league and I wish you all the best.

it would actually be putting 3d portraits in since they had 2d
details are important too btw

I think having a more fun-loving, jokey atmosphere between the casters would do WONDERS for making this league worth watching every single day of the week. Bringing in guest casters(preferably players) would be amazing. Banter is soooo necessary, cause let me tell you, esports is not always fun to watch 100% of the time.

-Lag
Watching the VODs in such a high quality from Switzerland on justin.tv is simply horrible... I have to buffer like twice as long as the actual game time is....
Please do something, or move from jtv.

I liked Gretorp, felt he did a good job. The chemistry between the two is somewhat lacking, but that's what I expected on THE FIRST DAY. Give it time, I'm sure it will get much better once everyone is perfectly comfortable.
Also, this whole stream lag thing is really annoying me. I had to have it on 480-720p the entire time. Every time I put it on 1080p it would freeze and stutter, which would just lead to my gf saying "you paid $20 for this??" QQ
Other than that, I thought it was very well done. I would like to see a better, more lively background, but again I understand this is the first day.
gj NASL!

Overall good job. Splitting up the profiles between each match would have been appreciated, but overall I enjoyed the execution.
Gretorp was fine. I know this is silly and picky but he looks so much better without the mustache. Sorry >>
This has lived up to the billing so far. Heh. My only problem is maybe too many matches x.x ^_^

I wasn't watching the chat, could someone tell me how the games were spoiled?
Did people know the results of all of the matches before hand, or were some people simply a few seconds ahead in the stream?

Need more in game music!!!! Just like those BW games with epic terran music playing in the background.

Thats odd, I really like Gretorp and think he is doing a much better job then incontrol. Kudos to both of them for doing this though!

There was a bug (that's fixed with today's patch) where lip synching with 3D portraits while a player was receiving an alert would sometimes crash the game, and high APM increases the risk of the crash. If you play Terran, you basically had to switch to 2D portraits or you'd crash a lot. It might be a holdover from whoever was laddering or playing games on the casting machine.
It's not a concern anymore, and it never was a concern for observing, so 3D portraits should have been enabled (or re-enabled as the case may be).
And I agree about Gretorp, sorry Gretorp =( It was pretty evident that you were either nervous or just inexperienced in casting because while you had some good analytical input, you kept returning to the same banter "indeed" "I couldn't agree more." I didn't pick up on the fake enthusiasm but I'm obtuse like that I guess.

Half the stuff people listed are things that can be fixed by not having an audience of complete morons

I will be watching this on VODs just like the GSL, and it seems even with a paid account the VODs, though HQ, are just auto split into segments. They need to be split into, at the least, each series, but preferably, like the gom site, into individual VODs, each with each match split up.
It would also be better if this was linked to the site. Maybe I'm oblivious, but I don't see any functional connection between the NASL.tv site at present, and the justin.tv site where you watch the content.

why is gretorp a commentator... like why?
he doesnt have an amazing shoutcasting voice, he doesn't seem to give the best insight (or at least better insight than incontrol can give), he's not extraordinarily "likable".. what qualified him as the shoutcaster of choice..?
this first show was pretty boring.. idk, maybe my expectations were too high.. but its just.. the commentators aren't that fun together..

have one of the observers be a referee so he can pause the game and talk to the players.
the lag in the Rainbow v Morrow game vs unfortunate, and it really seemed as if Rainbow didn't care about the result and was just happy to get out of there. Would have been nice if a ref could pause the game and maybe wait awhile for awesome.net 2.0 to stabilize.
|
I think some of the feeling of boredom, especially when watched against the recent dreamhack, or gomtv, is just a function of there being no studio audience, and a very sterile, black studio.
I think it's right that they are concentrating on the fundamentals first though.
