Yes an obs would be nice. So we don't have to get sick looking at them zip around looking for stuff to talk about. I guess when GSL started doing this the viewing experience improved a lot and I'm spoiled. GSL obs is so on the ball when it comes to focusing on what Artosis or Tasteless is talking about while roaming around when they are making pokemon jokes.
Mic quality definitely needs to be better. The overall quality sounds like ventrilo chat and when they yell it pierces my ears... -.-

He is a macro zerg.

Exclusive deal and waver signing to replays to be able to actually watch games since bad countries tend to fail bandwidth wise.

Need more articulate or charismatic casters in there if they want my $25

Please consider taking a short break in between series' for those of us who run out of food and need to go make a new sandwich or refill on the nachos. Other than that, amazing production, keep up the good work!

MUTE CHAT SO GAMES CAN'T BE SPOILED...

A few points that come to mind...
1) The quality of the audio seems a little low 2) VODs have no ability to switch between quality 3) VODs are also one big lump, makes it a mess if you want to watch a specific game (I'm guessing this will be fixed though) 4) No music.
Very enjoyable though.

theres really no point in having a live audience if the players arent there live as well. but having a live audience helps with the hype and excitement of the games. so lets hope the finals will be epic since the players will be there live.
the "pre-recording" is fine if done well. the games were casted live but video transition was somewhat bad and kills the excitement. the observing/commentating was a bit disconnected as well.
probably just a personal preference, but i dont really enjoy gretorp's voice :x had to lower the volume when he got excited. other than that, hes in the "okay" zone. also probably just a personal preference, but i do like more comedy mixed into the casting. it did look like NASL was aiming to be more professional. or maybe they both were nervous since its only day 1 of NASL. will just have to wait and see the rest.
overall, the games were pretty good except with the lag issue with rainbow vs morrow.

After watching NASAL I just think everything was a bit too bland. just a pure black background was a bit lame, maybe a green screen would be better with like starcraft stuff on the background or even a banner with a really cool picture.
I hate to say it but it seems as though the set was thrown together at a party, its cool but for the money they're giving away, more presentation would have been cool
Mic quality was a bit of a problem, but then its no different from watching vods. Sort that out and it would have been cool.
Music was definitely missing during the game. It usually builds suspense and keeps you awake when watching early in the morning.
maybe more to the player profiles. They seemed to be rushed, they should have had like player bio's and stuff like that up on the screen when they introduce them, maybe add in video interviews with the players or something. The point of having a league format is so we get to see the players and become more familarised with them, but NASL seemed like just an ordinary VOD tournament. Do video interviews with players before the game, do video interviews after the games. Maybe each day do 1 highlight of a player playing on that day. Maybe like a video of them practicing and just talking about their life and what they do/enjoy. Maybe favorite units etc.
I know this may sound weird, but maybe after each week they could do a highlight show where 2 other casters come in and just talk about the games, show where games were won and lost and only pick like 3 or 4 of the best games. If you don't know what I mean, watch the soccer show Match of The Day. Something like that for a big tournament like NASL would be sweet for people who can't watch every game. pick the best few as featured games, then do little snippets (like final battles or major encounters) to show who won, with a caster talking over the top talking about how they got to that point and what it means for the players!

Here's a suggestion: you guys have application videos from all the players you're casting. Most of the viewers probably haven't seen them. Why not edit them and put them up during the pre-game show? I could do with less map analysis and more interviews and application videos. I thought this was a great insight you guys had during the planning phase for NASL - that getting to know the individuals behind the ids was important for building interest and drama. The map analysis can be kept relatively short and sweet. What's important is the players.

Better transitions when you're cutting to a commercial is in dire need. Pretty much every commercial stampeded in right smack in the middle of important postgame analysis with no buffering or transitioning of any kind.
At one point, as many as 3 commercials played with only 2-3 seconds of pause in between where the stream would cut back in briefly, then cut back to a commercial. By the time the Ad-blitz was finished, the next game was already well underway with the stream coming back to hear casters in mid-sentence.
I'm not sure if you're doing this on purpose in order to encourage people to cough up the $25 dollars. If so, that's understandable, but extremely disappointing. A friend of mine who I invited to watch was new to the scene, and saw the sudden abruptness of the commercials as a rather hurried ploy to milk the viewership numbers.
The aim should be to market the stream such that all of the content is watchable to the audience at large. Seeing commercials abruptly cut in the middle of important analysis discourages potential customers and instead drives people to throw up adblock in order to avoid the headache. Certainly a counterintuitive result if the goal is to maximize profits.

It was more like diffirent shades of grey, but yeah. The casters looked like they were in some dark austrian dungeon looking too stiff/uncomfortable.
The games where great(pretty entertaining from a spectators view). The casting was great. Incontrol had his funny moments. What surprise me the most is that a majority seem to be trashing on the casters when there are so many more settled down casters that gets praised for their terrible insight and nice voices(?).
As mentioned before; the sound and ingame music needs to be adressed to. Was overall a great first day. Better than expected. 7/10.

It's not an issue of microphone quality as much as it is of recording quality or streaming quality. I'm hearing less than 44.1 k. I don't know what end that's on, though.

Definitely more time between games/matches. It seems like an odd request, but when you're watching for several hours they all start to run together. What makes GSL enjoyable is the banter and seeing the players between games. It shouldnt be like GSL exactly, but some content (player interviews, sponsor ads, whatever) can really break up the monotony.

I had lag issues throughout the whole thing, but it might just be my ISP has I havn't seen anybody else complain about it. Really though my only complaint is that the editing was sub-par, while they had more out-of-game content than TSL3, it seemed a lot more thrown together, but then again, I was hoping for something more GSL quality. I mean, its a ton of money on the line, I'd just hoped we'd make it a big production like the Korean events. Music would help in that department too.
Side note, are there going to be live audiences for the LAN after the group stage? Having a crowd behind the casters really adds a lot to the energy of an event, and can make bad editing or low production values far less jarring.

Stop being as professional, have a little fun there a hundreds of people in the Incontrol fan club and not a single one because of how professional he is. Make a few more jokes and things like that it would make the cast much more fun. In the gsl the first appearance is very professional but when you look at what the cast actually is, it's two best friends making jokes with each other.

Honestly I thought NASL was going to be a bit of a train wreck so I'm glad it wasn't as bad as I thought, but I agree with every point in the OP. Most of those things can be fixed before the next cast as well, so I hope they hop on it.
|
I agree about the brightness during the gameplay, the whites were like gleaming into my face, it was like watching gandalf running around there.

I think filling the time between games is a very good idea. I know it was the first day, but since you are rebroadcasting already commentated games, you can easly fill the pre-game and loading screen. Fill it with talk about the players and matchup's and map etc. It seemed kinda sloppy to be showing all of that.
As for the professional observer I think that is a bad idea. They did fine switching between Gretorp and Incontrol and it did not effect any the casting at all. I don't like it in the GSL when they are talking about something and the screen is not showing it.
Post game interviews for every player would add alot. I may be wrong, but I think they only did it for Sheth? It would add alot of personality and story if you got a interview with every player.
Last thing that was very annoying was no score. It was hard to stop watching for a bit, and come back and there is no score on what the series is at. Makes it hard to follow the cast without actually sitting infront of your computer for 3+ hours straight.
Overall for a first day you guys did very well. Obviously there are improvements to be made, but it was a job well done.
