they also miss out a lot on what's going on in the production tab...not gonna name specifics but there were many cases where I was noticed some cool stuff on the production tab that the commentators finally noticed maybe like 1 min after it was finished

You've made a clear attempt to be professional, the little things like having the Starcraft 2 screen behind the players interviews, getting the setup to look good etc... Really does go a long way in making the whole experience feel more real. (It's a shame the Fenix (Or was it Sheth?) clip was edited poorly and you could see it was just some sort of cloth because somebody hadn't cut the edges because i think it would have looked very good!) There were some good ideas in there and you're trying to not just follow the trend. Maybe set it a little more which is very important in order for development of casting overall. Ofcourse they'll be some bad stuff, but you can find those things out as the season develops. Even the low quality stream is perfectly watchable. There were some laggy moments but there's always laggy moments. TSL had some and so did DreamHack. Both have been going a lot longer than the NASL. I love how you're making a good attempt at statistics on your website. How certain matchups play out on certain maps percentage wise. Players overall records in the tournament per match up etc etc... I worked for Opta Sports for a while so love these kind of things. But i still think there's so much more you could look into at a later date. If you ever need any help with things like this. I'd be happy to help tbh so feel free to drop me a PM. Considering how raw the whole thing is and how inexperienced everyone working there is. It was a pretty good opening day. The Bad: Some things felt a bit forced. I don't really know how to describe this, but i'm sure others would agree with me. The Gretorp/iNcontroL interaction just feels a bit forced sometimes. Along with Gretorp trying to be funny etc... The SO MANY BANELINGS comes into mind a lot when i think of this. It kinda made me cringe because it didn't sound real as a reaction at all. Along with the shock of a GG being called even though you've already said the game is pretty much over a couple of minutes before. I think Gretorp can be very good at analysing something but being funny isn't his thing. Unless he can bounce off iNcontroL but i'm sure that'll come the more they cast together . It's just not what he naturally is. He seems a very controlled and measured person. I see him more as the serious guy who'll go into great detail explaining something. Where's iNcontroL is the hype guy that'll make you chuckle now and again. Everybody can improve though if they get constructive criticism so i'm hoping that's what happens rather than going down the 'GRETORP/INCONTROL NEED TO GO!' route. I feel with iNcontroL being a naturally funny guy he'll make a great caster soon. There were moments where i chuckled (My big fat beautiful lips comes to mind haha). The referee thing didn't make you or league look good. But it's an easy mistake and i'm sure you knew that already and won't let that happen again . The saturation/lighting was a bit weird sometimes but that's only minor. Go into each matchup before the start of the sets instead of all at the beginning. It'll make what you've told us fresher on our minds and the whole thing flow a lot easier. It felt like as soon as one match up ended we were in the lobby for the next matchup. All i can thing of, which means if there was anything else it couldn't have been that big of a deal! Overall : A good solid opening day where you didn't show yourselves up. Difficult coming off a fantastic DreamHack production. Many excite over how this will develop with more experience. And yes, i stayed up until 6am and got up at 9am to watch this thing!

More hype! (maybe music while they're talking) Really didn't think i'd ever hear this about geoff the "hype master" robinson i do agree also the whole commentary was really underwhelming for me it was to much like a gosu clan league where they sounded like they were falling asleep later into the cast

The video quality was amazing, even in 480p it was crystal clear but a little bit too bright. The excitement when it wasn't even close was a bit annoying but thats understandable since it was the first day, it will probably become better.

I was very tired after all the pre game talking and explanations of APM, if we could cut down on noobie speak, I mean its a pro series and yes we want to capture more players but come on... 98% of people watching a pro series don't want to hear this, I was tempted to mute it at that point. The event needs to run smoother with faster transitions which should be easier to do since it is all recorded, the editing needs to be more strict, cut out the pointless stuff that seems to be dragging on, end it with a music clip and start a new section with another sound bite. Otherwise I don't think I would really have the time or patience to watch NSAL for 5 hours every day, especially with GSL being a good few hours and offering higher production and quality of players.

Gretorp on the other way looks like someone who doesnt belong there. Being a caster is extremly difficult job, very few ppl can do it well. Sorry but Gretorp isnt one of them

Having said that, you should get better mics. There are much nicer lavaliers out there, esp the ones used in basically any telecast that clip onto your shirt/jacket or whatever. The best solution is something more similar to the GSL, they have fairly high quality condenser mics with covers on them. The covers prevent people from making them pop and/or blowing into them, and it will probably help with blowing out the mic completely with your voice. Overall for the first day, everything went very well, and everyone involved in the NASL should be pleased. There is certainly room to improve on, and once a lot of the technical aspects get remedied, it's entirely up to the big guy and gretorp to mesh better as casters, and fill that role more comfortably. Well done guys, and good luck in the future! Can't wait to watch today!!!

VoD's and casts are for entertainment. You pay for entertainment and the quality that NASL can provide compared to some random youtube caster. IMO, the quality NASL has over the youtube casters is well worth the money. BUT...replays are not for entertainment. They're for learning and growing as a player yourself. The SC2 community has always been very active about helping players grow and become better. Allowing access to the replays just follows in suit with this. If the NASL is only about money and has gone away from being apart of the SC2 community and elects to just use it as a tool to make a profit, then I don't think it's worth supporting.

I didn't actually mind the amount of prematch talk before the first game, as it allowed the commentators to go from match to match without twenty minutes of talking after each match. The commentators also used the first few minutes of each game to do the prematch talk which I felt worked quite well. On the production side, everything went quite smoothly which I guess is to be expected from a prerecorded show. Still, as a spectator it was enjoyable to have no hicups or hangups during the cast. The stream was also nice and Justin.tv worked well for me on lowest quality. It's not ideal to watch at 240p, but it was more than passable. As was said though, the sound quality was generally a bit a disappointing, and the lack of music was very noticeable. Also, the non-ultra quality graphics were noticeable--not a big deal but surprising. I think my biggest complaint would be with the quality of the graphics which I would say were somewhere slightly closer to the graphics quality of TSL1 than TSL2, and not on the level of the current professional productions. The liberal use of gradients, graphic styles and ideas that are inconsistent (for example, the one display starts with a dog-tag look on the left hand side, but then tapers off into a soft gradient on the right as if the dog tag got filed down to a flat piece of paper halfway through it), fonts that are way too small for an internet stream... obviously this can't be changed this year, but for the future seasons I hope they invest a bit more into the graphics. Fortunately, none of these criticisms ruin the entertainment value of the show, which was great. If the NASL can continue to improve, I will do my best to tune in to the rebroadcast every day. Having 15 great games a day is awesome! I'm more excited about the NASL than the GSL. We get to see all kinds of players competing and all kinds of different matches for the next three months to really determine who is the best player. It's going to awesome

I think the mixing needs a little bit of work, and more specifically the casters need work with how loud they're talking. Both Incontrol and Gretorp were blowing out the mics completely to the point of actual discomfort. Just better microphones won't fix that, you have to know how to speak into a microphone. Well yeah better mics would actually help. You can shout as loud as you like as long as you don't clip and your compressor can deal with it.

There is no need to use technical terms differently from regular sports, because it simply makes it less accessible for new people to grasp the concept of the league. This confusion with the technical terms (especially points) was done in the GCPL already and some people needed an explanation in the thread. If they would use the "usual terms in the usual way" it would make any explanations unnecessary.

It would be unfair to the players, there's no need for the entertainment and - in the other cases besides the nasl - the sponsors wouldnt like it. But true for all Starleagues: they want to make a great show - not just but some replay files online (you can search the net for thta anyways)
